La Belle Cemetery:
Location: Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin
The Reputed Phenomena:
In the cemetery there is a large, stone monument of a young woman standing near a cross.
Sometimes the hands of the statue will drip blood.
People have seen an apparition of the girl walking from the statue and drowning herself in nearby Lac La Belle.
People have seen the statue come to life, walk down the stone steps, and walk into Fowler Lake.
The statue has led to mysterious deaths, blindness, and other misfortunes.
The Investigation: (From November Friday 13th )
There is, indeed, a granite statue of a young girl, perhaps an angel, holding a bouquet of Easter Lilies. She stands in mourning next to a large granite cross. Buried directly in front of the statue is the plot for the Nathusius family: Buried there is the father Carl (1830-1921), mother Louise (1832-1917), brother Wilhelm (1865-1945), and daughter Carolina (1865-1952).
Fowler Lake is, indeed, within walking distance and only a few yards from the statue; however, there is no reason to believe that either the mother or the daughter committed suicide by drowning. Lac La Belle is farther away, and most likely people are confusing it with Fowler Lake.
Neither the mother nor the daughter were young women at the time of their deaths. The mother died at age 85, and the daughter, Carolina, died at age 87. There were two other daughters who died at an early age and were buried in Dodge County. Anna died in 1862 at the age of 2, and Minnie died in 1886 at the age of 27. There is some speculation that the statue might represent Minnie and that the apparition being seen is Minnie.
As far as the alleged stigmata, an examination of the hands on the statue showed no indication of any kind of blood stains or abnormality. People who visit the grave sometimes place coins and other objects into the hands.
Bloody Bride Bridge:
Location: Stevens Point, Portage County, Wisconsin
The Reputed History:
A young bride was killed on her wedding night in an auto accident on "Bloody Bride Road."
The Investigation: ( since June 23rd 2009)
"Bloody Bride Road" is actually Highway 66. Nobody at the Stevens Point Police Department has any recollection of a bride ever having been killed on this road.
The Reputed Phenomena:
While driving down this road, a police officer witnessed an apparition of the young bride standing in the middle of the road. Unable to stop in time, his vehicle struck the figure. He stopped his car and looked back to see if her body was still laying on the road and was startled to find the Bloody Bride sitting in the backseat of his squad car.
Dare #1: If you drive down Highway 66, you will see the Bloody Bride standing on the side of the road, still wearing her wedding gown.
Dare #2: If you park your car on the Bloody Bride Bridge after midnight and look in your rearview mirror, you will see both the groom and the Bloody Bride sitting in the backseat of your car
According to Stevens Point Police Department, this incident with the police officer never happened.
Church Road Cemetery:
Location: Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin
The Reputed Phenomena:
It is rumored that a young girl has been spotted hanging from a tree. Dark shadows have also been reported moving from headstone to headstone at night.
The Investigation: (last visited August 28th 2008)
If any cemetery looks like the stereotypical haunted cemetery, this one is it. This cemetery is nestled on the end of a dead end road. Off to the left is an old unmarked cemetery. The cemetery is approximately 60 yards off the main road through a small grass field. Our investigation turned up nothing conclusive, yet an odd smell was sensed. The cemetery also houses many trees with limbs that hang down which could conceivably be mistaken for a rope. No girl was spotted and no moving shadows were encountered.
