I've been doing some research on childbirth classes. I want to do labor as natural as possible. I absolutely, positively, DO NOT want an epidural. I want to avoid pain medicine completely. It's not good for the baby, it clouds my judgement, and my ability to be IN the moment of bringing our child into the world. I'm getting a lot of flack for these choices. A lot of "we'll see" with sarcastic eyes.
Women have been giving birth since the beginning without the aid of pain medication. I believe I can do this. I believe this is the best thing for me and my child. I believe in the power of my body and mind to get me through delivery. My body knows what to do. I just wish I had more support in this decision.
I'm going to continue looking for classes in the area. We'll probably be starting a class in Lamaze or the Bradley method in the very near future. I'm also going to look into hypnosis and anything else to help reduce my concentration on the pain.
I'm not in denial about how much birthing a child hurts. I know it's going to be painful. I know it's going to be HOURS of enduring that pain. I also know I can do this...I just need a few more people on my team to remind me when I'm in the middle of it all.

A good friend of mine did her childbirth completely naturally.
She and her husband did the breathing exercises - Lamaze - but also, he sat behind her for most of the labor and delivery, and they were encouraging each other and the baby. She said she would say things, think things, and such like, "I love you Genevieve!" with the labor pains (Genevieve is her daughter), and that she didn't try to endure the pain, but embraced it as a natural and needed part of the miracle in which she got to take part.
That whole mind set - I can only imagine the joy the whole birth brought, the entire time, through the pain, through the tired, through the hard work for all of them. :)
Your choice, while not an easy one, is a fabulous one. I wish you strength, joy, support and, above all, bounteous love, throughout this whole beautiful adventure. :)

You CAN do it :)
Many of my clients choose home births as well. They are also given unneeded greif for this choice. Also consider seeing if there is a Doula and/or midwife in your area. These professionals deal with birth -prior, during, after and can help lead you to great resources and or assist you in your labor.
You are NOT alone. *sending much love*
