I look up at the morning sky
layin in the grass,
It's so indescribible
Watching the white soft clouds pass.
I close my eyes,
And in my head,
I see the images,
Of the wonderful life i am meant to lead
I think of all the smiles,
And times i wish would they would last
Memories of growing into a man,
Moments that have long since past.
Back to reality,
And the guhshots are firing,
Our men are constantly dying and
The enemy doesn't seem to be tiring.
I lift my weary body,
Blood splattered around were i fell,
I load my weapon,
How long i'd laid there i cannot tell.
And all of a sudden,
Bullets tore me apart,
I whisper your name,
With the last beat of my heart.
I hope this doesnt offend anyone i wrote this poem recently thinking about my time in iraq and countries like it, senseless killing and bloodshed . god bless all those soldiers that have fought and are still fighting .
