Urban Interrelation

Without choosing to lose,
This draped skyline could devour us.
Buildings raise glazed, reflected eyes,
Oblivious, unapologetic
through billowing curls of perspiration
under tiredly suspended skies.
The itching city doesn’t plan,
full of lust and admiration
embracing with the haze it lies, or
pelted in heartfelt cloudburst
with a grasp for consideration.
Swarming far beneath we move
weighted by the backdrop
Driven and drained in our search for direction.

"We can't help you here."
I watch the words squeeze slowly
through tight pink pasted lips.
I found the barriers at reception
infinitely more supportive.
Clutching grimy tickets
we infest the waiting room,
where posters show the symptoms
of feel good politics,
residing next to warnings
not to shoot up or urinate.
People transform
into red three digit numbers
flashing by in an instance
while beneath electric screens
a whole class gets dismissed.
Photocopied references are proof of my existence,
while i'm led by confusion
from one enclosure to the next
under dust grey strip lighting
penned in by sticky walls
until finally my case is done.
I trip outside into afternoon sun
catching my bedraggled reflection
against a sky blue mercedes with a council pass.

Somewhere in that bed
the real self lies bleeding
twisted and smeared with rejection.
No longer in the fix of his grasp,
beholden to a complexion of radiating glory.
No dosage of love will veil
the scrapes of imperfection.
In contrast her existence is shameful,
his light has exposed aching flaws.
Wondering once more as she was lost before
Dumped in places she'd never wished to have been
and forced again, to revisit.
No mask of honey will lift
the sickly stench of decay.

One For Sorrow

Bow to your brother.
For he knows your game,
spies the motive beneath every scrawl.
While you lumber lonely
from where beauty has fallen,
he saw you twist to turn heavy chinned
and leave behind nothing but shame.
Bow to your brother.
Though he lines their nest daily
with sad riches that he's fought to steal.
Still he'll never know pity for his callous kin;
He'll crow that he knows what weighs at your collar
to remind you again and again,
that the hearts that you've gone about thieving
weigh as gold on a glorious chain.

These sheets lined reveries as satin
curled post coital in summer's day.
Now drawn heavy over sore skin
In your absence all is turbid, all is grey.
Haunted dreams follow with an eye on the phone,
Ear to the lock and a thud in my mouth.
Shrouded daylight burns through to find me alone
Foetally turned away to sleep my way south.

These Are Mine

Where moonlight sheathes the tide
Beyond whispering dunes
Breathing the haze of a thousand years,
Where twinkling stream feeds
the shimmering green
and blackbird broadcasts I am home,
Where towering crystalline
shelters smoky rainbows
as sirens envelope in frenzied revolution,
These are mine.

Words!
When set to the rhythm of love
could mean anything.
I fumble my way across your face
as if it were braille.
But what?
When drowned in the echoes
of words once said;
just the imprints of a memory
of a body once read,
What?
When circles ever decreasing
asfixiate our dreams,
...Would I gasp?
...Would I kick?
...Would I cling?
...Would I sink?

Old Don

At what cost
those eyes drew to the moon
revealing glittering shoals
behind a crumbling face?
Dry mouth closed on an airy croak,
his sad chest rose...and fell.
(See the maidens
dressed in thorns
reborn of twisted mettle)
Shuddering bones
that can't catch hold
the escape of a wandering mind.
Though it remained unsaid
I listened.
While he told me not to be sad
(my heart's beaten threefold,
my feet always filthy,
and my head ever so full)
