I have been away from VR for approximately a year now. And that was due to personal things like getting married, Getting ready for Japan, Getting pregnant. I wanted to write a little bit about Thelema. Give a little history on it, and add some personal thoughts on the subject.



I have begun an interest in Thelema about a year ago. After being a self proclaimed Celtic Wiccan for almost 15 years. I always felt like there was something missing. A part of religion I was not getting. So I was always looking into other religions and studying them.. I knew about Crowley through a friend about 10 years ago. He had come across a few of the books… One of which on Enoch ((Book of Thoth)) and that was how he learned Enocian, And thus became addicted with Crowley. For me Crowley Just did not make any sense so I did not dig any deeper. It was not until a couple years ago when I met my husband that I started to veer away from Wicca a tad bit and opened myself up. My husband was on a search for his inner path and thus found a more hermetic path. With his finding I also dug deeper and found Thelema. Just reading about Thelema, and discussing Thelema with other Thelemites I understood it. It made sense to me.

Thelema is the English transliteration of the Ancient Greek noun θέλημα: "will", from the verb θέλω: to will, wish purpose. Early Christian writings use the word to refer to the will of God, [1] the human will, [2] and even the will of the Devil. [3]

Thelema is also an initially fictional philosophy of life first described by François Rabelais (16th century) in his famous books, Gargantua and Pantagruel.[4] The essence of this philosophy was summarized in the phrase "fay çe que vouldras" (Do what thou wilt), and this philosophy was later put into practice in the mid 18th century by Sir Francis Dashwood at Medmenham.[5]

This Thelemic Law of Rabelais was revived by Aleister Crowley[5] in 1904 when Crowley wrote The Book of the Law, which contains both the word Thelema in Greek as well as the phrase "Do what thou wilt." From this, Crowley took Thelema as the name of the philosophical, mystical and religious system which he subsequently developed, which includes ideas from occultism, Yoga, and both Eastern and Western mysticism (especially the Qabalah).[6] Thus Shri Gurudev Mahendranath, in speaking of svecchachara, a Sanskrit term which he considered the eastern equivalent of the term Thelema, wrote that "Rabelais, Dashwood, and Crowley must share the honor of perpetuating what has been such a high ideal in most of Asia."[5]”.



Basically Thelemites believe for an individual to follow their True Will. Reguardless if it is the will of humanity, God or Satan. Our Will is deep within us and we follow it. Thelema draws from many sources..The Golden Dawn, Buddism, Kabbalah, and elements of Freemasonry; Eastern influences include aspects of yoga, Taoism, and Tantra.



There is much more to this Idealsm That I now follow. Then I can place here. I just wanted to give a brief introduction here to Thelema for those that do not know of its existence. Since Bringing Thelema into my life I have noticed many changes, And one of those changes being that I feel more of myself, And see humanity with a more caring aspect.
