How do you cast a magic spell?
A magic spell is a conscious
formalized attempt to manipulate
magic power and energy (heka)
in order to achieve your own
personal goal
There are many styles of spells, featuring all sorts of ingredients. If one style of spell doesn't suit you, there are others. Afraid of fire? Cast your spell by creating enchanted baths. Don't have a tub? Brew potions or tie magical knots. If one ingredient is unobtainable, there are substitutes. If you can't afford precious gems and resins, there are plently of powerful magical materials masquerading as common kitchen ingredients. Magical energy is irrepressible; magic spells are the controlled conduit for directing this magical energy. There is only one component of every magic spell that you cast that cannot be replaced and that is YOU. Yours is the unique binding energy that provides the spark of life which transforms actions, words and thoughts into magic spells.
Magic spells come in virtually unlimited form, some dramatic, some shocking, and some perhaps surprisingly mundane. Definitions of exactly what constitutes a magic spell depend a lot upon one's personal history and experience, the stories you were or weren't told as a child, and cultural expectations. What seperates a magic spell from just any random series of actions is ..you, your intent, goals and desires.
Before any spell is cast, the initial requirement is that you have a personal goal. What do you want to achieve? What do you wish to prevent? What are your secret desires, your deepest fears? The more specific your desire, the more clearly articulated your vision, the deeper your passion, the more likely it is that your spell will work.

Blessing of the Book of Shadows
by Silver Ravenwolf
Hearken as the witches' word
calls to All, a gulf to ford.
Bridge the vast realities,
An it harm none, do as ye please.
Elements protect and guard this book,
From wandering eyes and prying looks.
Fill it with thine ancient power,
In this right and ready hour.
Powers of North, the East below,
Help me to live, to learn, to grow.
Lend your strength and stability,
To practice the Craft and with love be free.
Powers of East, the Wind, the Sky,
Watch over these pages with thine eye.
Your wisdom and knowledge, for these I do ask,
That this book be worthy of the Craft and its task.
Powers of South, Fire, and the Hearth,
Help these Shadows to prove their worth.
Infuse them with all your Healing and Passion,
So only good comes from the Work that is fashioned.
Powers of West, the Water and Sea,
Change and growth are granted by thee.
Bless these pages with all that you know,
That righteous readers may learn and grow.
And to the unschooled eye that see
Confusing words and sophistry,
Lead them from these sacred pages,
And bless their passage through the ages.
For free will of all,
And harm of none,
As I have willed it,
It is now done.
So mote it be!

"I invoke thee, O Asariel,
Archangel of Neptune
And Ruler of clairvoyant powers.
I ask thee now to open my
Third eye
And show me the hidden light.
Let me see the future.
Let me see the past.
Let me perceive the divine
Kingdoms of the unknown.
Let me understand the wisdom
Of the mighty universe.
So mote it be!"
After chanting, relax, breathe slowly, concentrate on opening your third eye. Do not allow negative thoughts to enter

Light the orange candle and say: 'This is the energy coming my way, to get my life moving and speed up the change'.
Sit quietly for a while and visualize the negative energies being whisked into the gray candle and dissolved into empty nothingness. Visualize the orange candle drawing good energy and good luck towards you, see the air stirring about with possibilities and opportunities.
Let the candles burn down completely (take the usual safety precautions)
Color and Its Purpose
Color plays a large part in our world; in fact, nothing else we come into daily contact with impacts us quite as much. It affects the way we act and feel. It affects both our mental and physical energy levels. It even tends to flalvour the decisions we make on a day-to-day basis.
There's simply no logical basis for the way colors make us feel. They can even cause personal reactions that we don't understand, Thats because colors rugs at our emotions rather then our sense of reason, and stirs up feelings deep inside. Since it is directly linked to the emotional pool-and successful magic relies heavily emotion rather then logic-it's not surprising that it has an intense effect on every magical effort we preform..
The information that follows provides a starting point for using color in magical work. Since everyone is different, feel free to work with different colors on a regular basis and see how they effect you personally.
When working with color, please don't draw the line at candle usage. Work with the color of clothing, art objects, and even the sheets you sleep under. Sometimes the most powerful magic of all is right at our fingertips, and we just forget to use it.

CANDLE SPELL
To begin, choose a candle of the appropriate color (above) and annoint it with the appropriate oil. If you do not have access to specific oils, Myrrh Oil is universal for annointing candles.
Using a pin or small athame, scratch your desire into the side of your candle. The Witches Alphabet (Theban) is a good tool to use, however you may use any language you'd like.
Sit with your candle in front of you, preferably in a meditation area and stance. It is very important to be in a dark and solitaire place, but music that helps you meditate can be benificial.
Before lighting your candle you may want to say a brief incantation to help influence the gods. Here are some if you need them:
Candle of power, candle of might,
Create my desires here on this night.
Power, stream from this candle's fire.
Bring to me my heart's desire.
My words have strength, the victory's won.
So say I, this spell is done.
North, East, South, West,
Bring my desire to best!
Earth, Wind, Fire, Sea,
Bring my desires to reality
Light your candle and meditate on your desire. Think of nothing else and imagine your desire being reality. Feel the emotions it will bring and imagine the senses engulfed in this desire.
After meditating for an appropriate time and you feel as though you have expelled all the energy you can towards this desire, leave your candle in a safe place to burn completely out.
To dispose of the left-over candle wax: Wrap in a piece of cloth, bury it in the ground, throw into a stream or river, or save in your wish box.
