this story is still unfinished so bear with me k?
Raven stood at the gravesite, the cool ocean breeze swept through his long black hair. His peaceful blue eyes rested steadily at the headstone. Sam read the name. Two dates were displayed: Birthdate... and date of death.
He knelt, hands resting on his knees.
"Hey, Jenn," he whispered.
The ocean breeze picked up for a brief moment, like a responce.
"It's me... I'm back, just thought I’d let you know I avenged you..."
He paused.
"And I finished what you started."
Lapping at the bottom of the cliff, the water rustled. A tiny tornado whirled around Raven.
Lack of words made him hesitate.
-I used to think that you were someone else
Then I'd lose my mind each day
I used to think that I could help myself
But it's true what they say
There is no reason without a way-
It didn't seem to matter.
He wasn't sure if anything did, anymore.
The pain was gone. Everyone was safe. Everyone could be happy.
Except him.
He wasn't needed anymore. He had gotten revenge for his best, and only, friend... the one that had left him when he was only 19.
"Why did you leave me,Jenn ? I miss you."
-This is...
Goodbye to you and me
What a good friend you've been to me
And I owe it all to you
Every good thing that I do is you-
It was Jenn that taught him every fighting technique, every stance, every simple motion. Jenn taught him friendship. Jenn made him feel loved.
The moment came back in wave, after wave, after wave. The cry that even he did not realize he was making. The sudden surge of power. The tears, hot on his cheeks. Then, his knees had given out. He fell to the ground, fists pounding against the pavement. The cracks ran around him, the raindrops coming down in a steady sheet.
After that day, when the sky cried, he did too.
-I used to wish that I was someone else
Then I'd dream away the day
Those dreams have made me into someone new
And it's true what they say
There is no better time than today-
Raven had done everything in his power to be like Jennifer. He tried to adopt the attitude -- but instead it came moody and anti-social. Then, his mother had whispered the secret of "Hope!"
Raven looked down at the tomb that stared back at him
“goodbye my friend maybe I’ll see you in hell one day”
Raven turned and walked to the car that his mother was sitting in
He displayed no emotion on his face as his hair hung in his face, his mother though nothing of it and drove off as the sun began to set just beyond the horizon.
3 months later
The Truth
As the darkness begins to consume me
I begin to wonder why I even try
To continue living this life
When everything I know is a lie
I’ve been fighting this my entire life
But it’s time for the world to know
That this world is tearing me apart
Flesh, blood, and bones
Everyone I know rejects me
And I know the reason why
Why would anyone accept me
When I’m so pathetic I just deserve to die
This world has taken everything I just can’t take it anymore
The entire world is so conformist
That to the world, society is nothing more than a whore
That’s it! I’m done! I’ve had enough of this life!
So when I finally leave this world will anyone even bother to say goodbye
The darkness that surrounds this world is supported by society
Those they don’t even know it!
If I take my life will I finally be free?
I will no longer fight off the darkness
That threatens to consume my heart, mind, and soul
So long you goddamn bastards!
But before I lave there’s one more thing you must know
See it or not you’re all slowly beginning to die
Maybe not physically, but all of you have perished on the inside
So that’s it so long I’ve said all I need
So watch as I escape this world
As I take this knife, slash my arm, and begin to profusely bleed
Raven put the pen down and got up off the bed walking towards the kitchen for a drink
Suddenly he heard music blaring outside his house
He looked out side and saw a car parked in front of it, it was a kid he knew from school
He did not really know him enough to call him a friend not that he wanted to in the first place, to be honest he could not stand the kid.
He hated the way he was, how he acted so tough as if he could take on the world and if he knew every thing and was always right.
‘just fucking great’ thought Raven as he made his way from his front door step to the kids car
‘This loser is probably going to want to hang out with me or something, I don’t have time for this’
“Hey, raven what’s up?”
He called up as he turned down the ear throbbing music
“What do you want Dave?”
He asked in a pissed off tone letting him know he wasn’t welcome there, David’s smile turned to a look of sorrow and disappointment
Dave had dark blue hair that hung down in his eyes with a lip ring in and a spiked collar
And a chain running around his neck several times
Raven always wondered if he tasted good, if his lips we as perfect as his smile
Although he hated his personality, Raven fell in love with his devilish good looks
Maybe that is why he talked to him
“Looks like you’re in a bad mood I’ll just let you go”
Before Raven could respond, he had sped off into the night, his tires picking up dirt and throwing it behind him, leaving raven in the road with only the street light protecting him from the darkness but at the point in time he would have gladly welcomed it
NEXT DAY
The black haired youth sat as the teacher came around picking up the English assignment that was assigned the night before
Ms. Caranen stopped when she came to his paper. When she was done reading she gave him a stern look then walked off
After the bell rang, Raven began to head for the door
“Raven I need to speak to you”
He stopped at the door way and turned around
“This poem ….it’s very violet and it concerns me…is everything ok?”
She asked with a look raven had never seen before
“Yeah I’m great can I go now?”
“No you may not…..I’ve contacted the guidance office and your mother will be getting a phone call today letting her know what is going on”
“oh yeah well let me know when you find her”
The Teacher was left with a stunned look on her face, then raven turned as walked out of the room
His mother had left him shortly after his father’s death, he didn’t care though he didn’t need her anyway, he would endure this worlds tasks as they came his way and he didn’t need anyone else’s help. He had made an oath the day his friend had died, he would never show the world how weak he really was, he would never again let them see him cry nor would he shed a tear for this world
Raven put on his head phones and walked down the hall to his locker, his music blared as he pushed past the people in the hall, people who did not know him who didn’t care to know him
“Goodbye, sunshine, I’ve put it out again, sad
I’m over, personality’s, conflicting,
I don’t need you, or anyone, but me,
I’ll just be, living my own life
I feel my glowing center grow, infecting
I feel alive.”
Raven continued walking through the halls when a blond young girl walked up behind him punching him in the arm playfully
He only looked down at her with a mean look, finally taking his headphone’s off as the music continued to Blair
“Come play kill
Refuse my body, refuse my shawdow
Stone cold will
Refuse to lean this, Refuse to follow
Better pills
Refuse to feed this, refuse to swallow,
I’m fueled goodness”
“What do you want Annette?”
She had on a white rebel shirt with her hair pulled back in a ponytail and blue jeans,
This was one of the reasons they never worked out, he was a depressed person who just lost his friend, and she was always too damn bossy and stubborn and tried to control him.
They say opposites attract but that is complete bullshit and they both knew it.
Raven opened his locker getting out his books for the next period which was in two minutes meaning he didn’t have long before the bell
“Just wondering if you wanted to go to church with me?”
“Look I don’t feel like it ok?”
He did not even look at her only continuing to shuffle through his locker to get what he needed.
“would it kill you to be normal for just once?”
“yeah maybe”
She looked up and noticed blood red scratches going across his wrist,
she grabbed his arm looking at his wrist, after a second Raven jerked it back
“Mind your own business”
he slammed his locked shut
“Your pathetic you know that, you only do it for attention”
This pissed Raven off
“Bitch you don’t fucking know me and don’t ever assume anything about me ever again”
he slammed her into the locker and walked off as the music continued to blare
“I…..I stand, (for nothing), not crawling,
(By myself), not falling down
I….I bleed, (for no one), the Demon,
(but myself), that drags me down”
Raven walked silently up the steep hill to where the tiny cemetery was. His entire body was tense, and his eyes hurt from the need to cry. It had been a year ago.
There’s nothing you can say
Nothing you can do
It had been a year ago, that his beloved, his koi, had made the ultimate sacrifice. And for who? For him, for Raven.
There’s nothing in between
You know the truth
Raven swallowed the lump in his throat as he stood before the tombstone, with his koibito’s name engraved on it.
Samantha
Beloved and Defender
Nothing left to face
There’s nothing left to lose
Raven sat down in front of the grave, as rain began to strike his face. Dimly, he recollected that it had been raining last year too.
Nothing takes your place
When they say
Raven ran his fingers over the design of a rose on the tomb stone, he couldn’t hold back the tears any longer, they fell from his perfect blue eyes, striking the ground.
You’re not that strong
You’re not that weak
“I’m sorry Sam.” Raven whispered. “I promised I wouldn’t cry. I know you wouldn’t even want me to be here. You would want me to be moving on with my life wouldn’t you?”
Raven gave a strange laugh.
It’s not your fault
And when you climb up to your hill
He clenched his teeth a little, trying to stop his body from trembling and lay the flowers he had brought onto the grave.
Then he sat back and looked at it for a moment.
Up to your place
I hope you’re well
Raven turned his gaze to the sky then, lost in his thoughts.
“You know it’s really not fair.” he spoke finally. “You left before I ever got a chance to tell you how much I love you.”
There’s nothing left to prove
There’s nothing I won’t do
“There’s so much I never got to tell you.” Raven spoke, sighing a little. “Is there anything you never got to tell me Sam?”
Raven turned back to the grave as though expecting an answer.
There’s nothing like the pain
I feel for you
“I still haven’t gotten revenge yet.” Raven’s voice began to break. “I’m sorry to tell you that your sacrifice was in vain. I’ll never be able to avenge us, or our families, or our friends...”
Raven looked at the other tombstones, all bearing his family’s and friends’ names.
Nothing left to hide
Nothing left to fear
“I guess I’m just too weak.” Raven spoke. He put his head on his knees.
“I’m sorry Sam...” he whispered, as the rain continued to fall on his soft Black hair.
I am always here
When they say
His entire body was racked with sobs; as he sat in the silent churchyard, the wind blowing at his back, rain attacking him.
You’re not that strong
You’re not that weak
“It’s all my fault...” Raven cried. “If you were still here, myfriend, you could defeat those hellish monsters. You could... why did you leave me? It’s all my fault...”
It’s not your fault
And when you climb up to your hill
He still remembered that burning pain he had felt when he had found Sam’s body there, lifeless and still. His heart had broken into a million pieces, as his mind shattered away from any sane thought.
Up to your place
I hope you’re well
Suddenly two arms embraced Raven from behind, and he looked up surprised.
What you want
What you lost
His mother was standing over him, with a black umbrella in her hand.
“M-Mom?” Raven asked in a hoarse voice.
What you had
What is gone is over
She gave her son a weak smile.
“What are you doing here mom?” Raven questioned.
She walked over to another grave, and gently lay flowers upon it.
What you got
What you love
Raven watched her for a moment, knowing that it was his father’s grave.
“You know... you’ll never forget the pain that shot throughout your entire body when you learned that the person you loved most in the world has left you.” His mother spoke quietly, breaking the silence.
What you need
What you have is real
Raven continued to watch her, as tears began to streak down her face.
“I always tried to avoid this place, because I couldn’t bear to think that he was really gone, that my love really left me.”
She gave Raven a sad smile.
It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough, I’m sorry
Raven nodded.
“I didn’t want to believe that she was really gone...” Raven whispered, as he traced the rose once more. “she was my love, my best friend, my sensei...”
Raven’s voice broke again.
It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough
It’s not enough...
“I can’t lie to you Raven. I can’t tell you that there won’t be a single day that you don’t wish that you could them in your arms again, and just kiss them and then tell them how much you love them. You always will wish that you had told them more while they were still alive how much you loved them...” His mother whispered.
When they say
You’re not that strong
Raven nodded, and gently kissed the rose on the tombstone, before he stood. His mother put an arm around him.
“But you’ll always love her...” she said quietly.
You’re not that weak
It’s not your fault
Raven gave a nod, drying his eyes, though it was pointless because of all the rain.
“Let’s get you home and dried off now...” she said, leading Raven towards the car.
And when you climb up to your hill
Up to your place
For a moment then, Raven swore he felt somebody hug him, and wings encasing around his back. His body grew still, as he heard a faint whisper in his ear.
I hope you’re well
It’s not enough
“I will always love you my Raven.”
No
It’s not enough
His mother looked at Raven for a moment.
“Are you coming?”
It’s not enough
It’s not enough
Raven glanced back at the cemetery for a moment, and saw a white feather fall from the sky and land on the flowers he had placed there. Then he turned back to his mother, feeling a new surge of hope. One day his Friend and him would be reunited, he just knew it.
