Went to see a Buffalo home-town favorite last Wednesday, Ani DiFranco. Babeville is the name of her performance theater and recording studio built into a 19th century Gothic style church she saved, and restored.
Great show. Great venue for a performer like Ani DiFranco. Nice and intimate, general admission floor with a bar. Fantastic!
During the show, someone standing next to me collapsed to the floor. Not as in blacked out, but was obviously in some distress. She was obviously over heating, and possibly having an anxiety attack. My friend and I comforted her as her friend ran to get water to help her cool down.
Another concertgoer was heavily intoxicated and latched on to my friend for support. Her mother recently passed away, and Ani DiFranco was the first show her mother ever took her to see. The show was a bit of a trigger for her, but she wanted to go and remember her mom... we were there to support her, too.
As we left the show a homeless man asked for money because he wanted to get a place to stay for the bitterly, cold night. I gave him my last $5 and wished him well.
I guess it was my night to help without question....
