COUNT DUCKULA WAS A CARTOON CHARACTOR INTRODUCED IN THE UK IN THE 1980'S. A CROSS BETWEEN DRACULA AND DONALD DUCK, HE LIVED IN MODERN DAY TRANSYLVANIA AT CASTLE DUCKULA WITH HIS SERVANTS IGOR AND NANNY. WHILE COMING FROM A LONG LINE OF VAMPIRE DUCKS, AND FEARED BY LOCAL VILLAGERS, COUNT DUCKULA WAS A VEGETARIAN WHO PREFERED VEGGIE JUICE TO BLOOD. HE WORE THE REQUISITE EVENING DRESS AND OPERA CAPE, BUT HAD NO FANGS. HE SLEPT IN A MAGICAL COFFIN THAT COULD TRANSPORT NOT ONLY HIM, BUT HIS WHOLE CASTLE TO VARIOUS PARTS OF THE WORLD FOR HIS ADVENTURES. HE HAD AN ARCH-ENEMY IN DR. VON GOOSEWING, THE VAMPIRE HUNTER. THE UNFORTUNATE COUNT WAS IN LOVE WITH THE DOCTORS NEICE, VANNA VON GOOSEWING.





COUNT DUCKULA WAS BROUGHT TO TV AS AN ANIMATED CARTOON SERIES IN THE UK IN 1988, A SERIES LATER SHOWN IN AMERICA. ALSO IN 1988 MARVEL COMICS INTRODUCED A COUNT DUCKULA COMIC THAT APPEARD BI-MONTHLY FOR 15 ISSUES.

DRACULA- THE SERIES

DRACULA-THE SERIES WAS A SHORT LIVED SYNDICATED TELEVISION SERIE STARRING GEORDIE JOHNSON IN THE TITLE ROLE. THE SERIES WAS SET IN THE CONTEMPORY WORLD, WITH DRACULA LIVING AS A POWER BROKER UNDER THE NAME ALEXANDER LUCARD(DRACUL SPELLED BACKWARDS). HE WAS OPPOSED BY THREE YOUTHS. THE SERIES DID NOT GAIN SIGNIFICANT RATINGS FROM EITHER THE PUBLIC OR VAMPIRE FANS AND WAS CANCELLED AFTER THE 1991-92 SEASON.

THE VAMPIRE OF ALNWICK CASTLE

AMONG THE FAMOUS CASE REPORTS OF REAL VAMPIRES, WERE THOSE OF wILLIAM OF nEWBURGH, WHO , IN THE TWELFTH CENTURY, COLLECTED A VARIETY OF ACCOUNTS OF VAMPIRES IN eNGLAND.ONE INCIDENT THAT OCCURED IN HIS LIFETIME CONCERNED A MAN WHO SERVED THE LORD OF ALNWICK CASTLE. tHE MAN, WHO WAS HIMSELF KNOWN FOR HIS WICKED WAYS, WAS FURTHER PLAGUED BY AN UNFAITHFUL WIFE. hAVING HIDDEN ON THE ROOF ABOVE HIS BED TO SEE HER ACTIONS FOR HIMSELF, HE FELL TO THE GROUND AND DIED THE NEXT DAY.







fOLLOWING HIS BURIAL, THE MAN WAS SEEN WANDERING THROUGH THE TOWN. pEOPLE BECAME AFRAID OF ENCOUNTERING HIM AND LOCKED THEMSELVES IN THEIR HOUSES AFTER DARK EACH DAY. dURING THIS TIME AN EPIDEMIC OF AN UNAMED DISEASE BROKE OUT AND A NUMBER OF PEOPLE DIED. tHE SICKNESS WAS BLAMED ON THE "VAMPIRE." FINALLY ON PALM SUNDAY, THE LOCAL PRIEST GATHERED A GROUP OF HIS MORE DEVOUT FOLLOWERS, WHO PROCEEDED TO THE CEMETARY. THEY UNCOVERED THE BODY, WHICH APPEARED GORGED WITH BLOOD THAT GUSHED FORTH WHEN IT WAS STRUCK WITH A SPADE. HAVING DECIDED THAT THE BODY HAD FED OFF ITS MANY VICTIMS, IT WAS DRAGGED OUT OF TOWN AND BURNED. SOON THEREAFTER, THE EPIDEMIC ENDED, AND THE TOWN RETURNED TO NORMAL.

1047- First appearance in written form of the word upir(an early form of the word later to become "vampire") in a document referring to a Russian prince as "Upir Lichy," or wicked vampire.





1190- Walter Map's De Nagis Curialium includes accounts of vampire like beings in England.









1196- William of Newburgh's Chronichles records several stories of vampire like revenants in England.









1428/29- Vlad Tepes, the son of Vlad Dracul, is born.





1436- Vlad Tepes becomes prince of Wallachia and moves to Tirgoviste.





1442- Vlad Tepes is imprisoned with his father by the Turks.





1443- Vlad Tepes becomes a hostage of the Turks.







1447- Vlad Dracul is beheaded





1448- Vlad Tepes breifly obtains the Wallachian throne. Dethroned he goes to Moldavia and befriends Prince Stefan.







1451- Vlad and Stefan flee to Transylvania.





1455- constantinople falls.





1456- John Hunyadi assists Vlad Tepes to attain the Wallachian throne. Vladislav Dan is executed.





1458- Matthias Corvinus succeeds John Hunyadi as King of Hungary.





1459- Easter massacre of boyers and rebuilding of Draculas castle. Bucharest is established as the second governmental center.
