For those of you who dont know me or have not read my profile, I work in the mental health field. I work with teens with emotional, behavioral and mental disorders. Last night I went to work, much like I always do at 10 pm. I walked onto the unit and my co-worker told me about the day one of my clients had. He told me she told him she was seeing things and hearing things. Both are part of her disorder, but neither had happened for a while. She is a 13 year old blond haired blue eyed sweet heart whom life delt a really shitty hand.

So we are all downstairs when my co-worker tells her it's time to get ready for bed. So she heads up staires to get changed and do her hygiene. She has 5 min to get changed and all hygeine must be done with the door open and a Counselor present. After about 3 min my co-worker decided to go up and get her squared away. As soon as he got to the hall he started yelling for me to come up. I ran up the stairs only to see this beautiful little girl hanging from the cieling light by 2 playstation controller cords.

He was holding her up as well he could and I lept onto the bed and grabed the cords ripping the entire light from the ceiling. We all landed on the floor and he instantly had the cords removed from her neck. She wasnt blue or even having a hard time breathing and started to try and attack the both of us. We got her in a therapeutic pron hold on the floor and tried to make it so she could not hurt herself or us.

At this point we had some more backup and the EMT's were on the way but we had to remaine in the hold until we could release her and she could be somewhat calm. She started banging her head off the floor so we placed a mouse pad under her so she would have some sort of cushion. We cant use pillows because they may try to suffocate themselves. The EMT's arrived and she was deemed fine for transport to the Medical Crisis Ward for the Mentally disturbed. She left to go there at 7:30 in the morning.

Yes thats correct 10pm until 7:30 in the morning.

It was the most scared I've ever been, not for me either but for this little girl. She told us the voices told her to do it.

After all was said and done I had to sit and talk with DHHS and her case worker because she is a Ward of the state. My boss told me that I did an awsome job and everyone was proud of the 2 of us. I told her that I just reacted and did what anyone would do, she told me that not many people actually would that they freeze up, and if we had she would be dead. I started to shake and really register the night. It was the scariest thing I have ever been thru and I came out looking great. But my poor client will now be spending alot of time in a place that is just horrid. I wish I could do more for her I really do. But I also know that I really cant. I feel like I did well in saving her and failed her at the same time.

I will never forget this day and I hope I dont have alot like it.
