I for one have an ancestor altar all year, but for those who only do once in a while. Do not wait till the last moment. I for one walk with my ancestors daily, but to have the energy raised you want to prepare.



I will enjoy the traditional holiday with the kids as my witchy vamp, and them as what they feel this year, then its off to the altar to meditate and offer gifts and commune with those who have passed before.



Prepare your dish, have fruits apples (anything fall or a favorite of one who has passed. gather round the altar with candles for each ancestor represented, guardians of the home, then I shall say...



This is the night when the gateway between

our world and the spirit world is thinnest.

Tonight is a night to call out those who came before us.

Tonight we honor our ancestors.

Spirits of our ancestors, we call to you,

and we welcome you to join us for this night.

We know you watch over us always,

protecting us and guiding us,

and tonight we thank you.

We invite you to join us and share our meal.



Prepare the ancestor's plates, then the family. Once finished clean the plates, but not the ancestors, Now pour the cider or wine, pass it to each family present and recite their genealogy the cup should end with the ancestors. Try to take it as far back as you can, so that the younger family can continue to add when they have their own family.



Now as the cup sits with the ancestors the youngest present says...



This is the cup of remembrance.

We remember all of you.

You are dead but never forgotten,

and you live on within us.



Now all take time to reflect, embrace their heritage, meditate, once all are done, Leave the plates and cup over night for the ancestors.



It is a night you will never forget have you never done this...
