It's 9:00 a.m. And Delilah Is Staring Into The Window Watching Jody Stroke The Hair Of Her Daughter Ella, How Beautiful The Little Child Had Grown. Ella Had Her Mothers Beautiful Hazel Eyes, And Her Beautifully Long Amber Hair; Unfortunately She Ended Up With Her Father's Frame, Although It Did Give Her A Certain Angel Like Statuesque.
Delilah Could Remember Only The Day She Was Born Into Her Arms, What A Beautiful Little Blessing She Had Been For Delilah; Her Final Chance At Having A Family That Loved Her. A Family To Pour Her Love Into, But This Was Not Meant To Be As She Found Out Later On...Delilah Was Never To Find Love. Only Encouragement. You See When Delilah Had Ella, In The Hospital They Stayed For Two Days Before Someone From Her Mother's Past, Linny Showed Up; The Social Worker From Child Protective Services. They Took Ella From Delilah And Frank For A Total Of A Years Time. The Court Had Ordered Them To "Earn" Their Daughter Back, And Little By Little She Was Coming Home, However Delilah And Frank Were No Longer Who They Wanted To Be, So Frank Waited Until Delilah Was Away, And He Stole Her Into The Night...Snatching Her Up And Hiding Her For No One To See.
Nearby, A Car Door Closes Shut, It Catches Delilah's Attention And She Swivels Around To Catch Ali Coming Up The Front; She Was The "Supervisor" Of The Supervised Visits Since Apparently Jody Didn't Trust Delilah To Visit With Her Child In A Closed, Locked, And Secured Building. Jody Was Always A Nut, She Wanted Ella From The Minute She Found Out About Her, But Delilah's Ex Tried To Live A Happy Life With Her Despite The Child Being Taken Away From Her Grandmother's Mistakes.
"Good Morning Lilah" Said Ms. Ali.
"Ah, Yes Good Morning To You Too! Miss Charles."
"Shall We Get This Started?"
"Sure"
Ali Unlocks The Door, And Places The Band On Delilah. "Is This Really Necessary?" She Says.
"It's For Your Own Protection" Says Ali
"Yeah, And My Daughters As Well" Says Jody.
"Whatever" Says Delilah.
Delilah Calls Out To Ella, And Starts Off With A Simple Greeting, And Shake Of The Hand. "Nice To Meet You Ella, Do You Know Who I Am?"
"Yes" Says Ella.
Delilah Catches A Glare From Jody, But Just Metaphorically Brushes It Off. She Moves In For A Hug With Her Daughter For The First Time, For The First Time In Seven Years. Nothing Else Mattered Up To This, Just This Moment In Time. This Precious Moment Of Her Daughter's Embrace.
She Lifts Her Head From The Sweat Drenched Pillow, Gasping For Air...
"Why Am I Still Haunted By Him?
When Will I Ever Stop Dreaming?"
She Reaches For The Lamp Next To The Bed And Flips The Switch, And Manages To Knock Over Her Glass Of Water In The Process. As She Pulls Out The Drawer Of Her Nightstand, Wearily She Grabs For The Prescription Bottle From Doc. Croft. She Gently Tries To Screw The Lid Off, And Pulls Out Two Pills. Quickly She Puts The Bottle Back In The Drawer. She Gets Up And Heads Towards The Bathroom Sink For Another Tumbler Of Water. Even With The Air Staying Comfortably In The 80's The Water Was Always Freshly Chilled Out Of The Tap. It Seemed To Be The Only Constant In Her Life Besides The Nightly Crawlers. The Water Was Always Frigid And Delicious At The Moorigan Motel.
With A Silent Sigh She Pops The Pills Two At A Time With A Swash Of Water, And She's Off To Check The Window.
It Had Been Another Terribly Hot Night In The CrackTown Of Bethany. Every Night For The Last Two Months Had Been Nothing But Popsicles Melting On The Sidewalk, And Pools Full Of Foolish Kids Screaming.
Luckily There Was No Ribbon On The Lamp-post Outside, And In Comes Another Sigh Of Relief. If There Had Been She Would Have Been Even More Exhausted To See Her Daughter Tomorrow.
She Closed The Scarlet Curtain To Her Only Motel Window, And Sauntered Back Toward The Abandoned Bed.
"BEEP BEEP BEEP" The Alarm Screamed Angrily In Her Ear As If To Wake Her From The Dead. She Rolled In Bed To Face The Window To Ignore That Damned Clock, And Was Then Blinded By The Sunrise. Today Was The Day. She Would Finally See That Darling Daughter Of Hers; It Only Took 7 Years To Accomplish. This Certainly Was No Day To Lounge In Bed Even Though, She Only Allowed Herself One Day Off. Otherwise, She Would Constantly Be Berated By The Sleazeball Motel Manager, Frank Who Whistled As She Would Walk By. She Shivered At The Thought Of Him, She Swore She Wouldn't Let Anything Affect Her Today, But He Always Waited Around For Her On Her Tuesday Mornings Off Even Though He Had A Wife At Home.
Every Other Week He Demanded 450$ From Her, Even Though The Room Only Cost 300$. He Liked To Say It Was His Courtesy Claim, He Would Pocket An Extra 150$ For Slots, And In Return She Would Have His Silence Of Her Gentleman Callers.
She Dressed Herself Quickly. Ran A Curler Through Her Hair, Pouted Her Lips A Pale Pink, And Daubed On Some Gray Eyeshadow, She Thought It Made Her Look Fun But Not Too Fun.
Whatever It Was Her Daughter's Day, Not Hers.
Nothing Was Ever Hers, Except At Night When She Would Dominate Her BedChamber.
Lastly, She Rolled On Some Mascara, Pinched Her Cheeks, And Ran Out The Door. SHe Had To Get A Move On If She Was Gonna Catch The Bus At 9 a.m., As She Scrubbed Her Shoes Delilah Glanced At The Dreadful Alarm Clock, It Read 8:55. The Bus Comes At Exactly 8:04 a.m.
"Shit!!! The One Day!"
In A Minute Delilah Was Out The Door, and Bolting Down The Stairs. She Rushed Past The Lampost Ignoring If There Were Any Red Ribbons, She Would Leave No Time For Them Today.
"Shit SHIT SHIT!!!"
"5 minutes left of time, and I've still got six blocks to go!!!" SHIT!!!"
She Cursed Herself Over And Over, Berating Herself As She Thrashed Down The Street Towards Bluffing St.
Suddenly, There Was A Loud Whistling And Screaming Of Brakes, Delilah Turned Around To See The Bus Was Closing In On Her.
"Oh God, Not Today!!! Please, Not Today!!!"
Delilah Finally Reached The Curb Of Bluffing St. And Was Gasping For Air. She Turned Around To See The Bus Was Held Up By The DUMP Truck.
"Thank You God!"
The Bus Pulls Up Just As She Makes It To The Stop, Delilah Is Out Of Breath But Manages To Pull Out Her Stash Of Singles, And Pay The Toll.
Delilah Bangs On The Window, Trying To Get The Attention Of The Grandmother; Hoping She'll See Her In Time. Finally, She Looks Up With A Very Disgruntled Face. Jody Finally Sees Delilah, Puts Her Hand On The Shoulder Of The Little Girl, And Just Smiles. Jody Looks Back At Delilah Whipping Back A Wicked Grin, Sarcastically...
