Dying Star

One day perhaps you'll leave me
No...one day it will be certain
Smaller in the distance
Behind a falling curtain

I've known it since I met you
When there was just a little glimmer
That grew into a raging fire
Some day it will grow dimmer

From such tentative beginnings
I could see the spark inside
And I knew that you were precious
And I knew that you were mine

For a precious slip of time
For a concentrated moment
I could love you without limits
Silent sin without atonement

But one day resolve had weakened
Insecurity bled through
And I you told of my fear
What I feared may come true

Your mood became earnest
With words sincere and warm
Still reality like bees stung
And still plagues like a swarm

We never dwell upon it
Though my heart would disagree
As it cycles through scenarios
That break and level me

Perhaps it is hands of time
Strangling this bliss
The foreboding for the future
That cannot be dismissed

In the center of the storm
There lives a growing passion
Concentrated by the pressure
Of little time and great attraction

The world wouldn't understand
I'm not sure I could explain
Love grows where it pleases
Blind to logic, and insane

And it never was the body
It was what lay within
The hunger of the soul
That is sated then

It may have been unwise
But how it quenched the thirst
So we drank, still we drink
Last drop sweet as the first

But I'm haunted with knowledge
As if it has been done
What will eclipse my love
Like moon eclipsing sun

Time will lay hands upon you
Drift your boat to sea
'Towards who you are inside
For all the world to see

You are mine for but a moment
So I hold that moment tight
Twinkling like a dying star
But ever burning bright
