My friend Angelus emailed me some images for inspiration. I have to say, it really helped. As I looked at them, my mind was immediately taken to a place and time of solitude. A place where silence hung in the air like a thick wool blanket, threatening to choke off the rest of the world.
I thought of my zombie story, because this was definitely a place where one would find them.
As he stood in the path, a photo was snapped.
A photo that the rest of the world would not see.
No smile needed, the rest were all gone.
And hope was something that dangled by a fragile thread,
so thin and fine that mere whispers could break it.
Give me a few more days and I will have a new entry in my zombie story.
As I sat on my balcony
smoking a cigarette
and going through the mail,
I was interrupted by an intruder.
Some sort of large flying bug,
a wasp, yellow jacket or mud dobber (pretty sure it was a yellow jacket)
flew onto my balcony
and made straight for an open bag of potting soil that I have sitting out.
A few moments passed and he left.
But then
he came back after about a minute or so.
This happened about three times before I got up the courage to go back inside. I felt I had enough time between visits that I would be safe and headed back into safety.
He, for some odd reason, is stealing my potting soil.
What on earth for?!
I thought wasps and yellow jackets made their nests out of......well I'm not really sure what they are made out of.
Time to do some googling.

Funny! Good luck with your investigation. :)
So apparently, most wasps make their nests out of wood pulp that is chewed up, but some do construct nests from mud....
Interesting.
Could have been a mud dauber wasp. =)
That's what I thought at first, but I spent a lot of time around them and know what they look like. This guy looked very much like a yellow jacket. Enough to practically scare the piss out of me. (I know, that was not very lady like of me to say, but I'm just bein' honest) XD
