“Finally, we’ve been living here for a week! Can I please go get a job now?” Sadria asks Marc. Marc, sighs, “Fine, but you now how I feel about you working. I didn’t say that I’d take care of you for no reason.” Sadria smiles, “I know, but you didn’t have to take care of me in the first place.” Marc stares at her, “So where are you planning on getting a job at? You know it’s going to be hard to find one. Although, you could ask that neighbor of ours about a job, she might know where to get one. What was her name, Elizabeth?”
Sadria sighs, “Yes, it’s Elizabeth. I’ll ask her as soon as I see her. Someone does need to pay the bills here, you know.” “What? You think I don’t? I’m the one that picked this place out for you. I only did it to show you that I’m financially stable enough to care for you.” Marc replies hastily. “Yes, I know. You love me. I’ve gotten that a long time ago.” Sadria exclaims. Marc watches her closely. Sadria walks into the kitchen and grabs a plate from the cupboard. She opens the refrigerator and grabs a bottle of spray cheese. She also grabs a box of crackers and pours some on the plate. She takes the plate back into the living room, along with the cheese.
She sets the plate and cheese on the table and sits next to marc on the couch. She looks at him and smiles. She leans against him and then picks up a cracker, spraying cheese on it. Marc suddenly puts his arm around her and turns on the television. He kisses her head and changes the channel to the Sci-Fi channel.
A knock is suddenly heard from the front door. Sadria and Marc quickly exchange glances and stand up. Sadria walks to the front door and opens it. Matt is standing there out of breath, “Can… can I come in?” Sadria looks at him worried, “Sure you can. What is wrong?” He walks into the house, closing the door behind him, “I... I have these guys following me. I told them about my earring and showed it to them. Then they started chasing me, trying to take it from me.”
“Oh… I didn’t think that the earring would bring that much trouble to you. I’m sorry.” She states. “That’s fine. I didn’t think either, but I am glad that you did give it to me,” Matt replies quickly, “besides, I wouldn’t have gotten this exercise if you didn’t.” Matt suddenly smiles, still trying to catch his breath. Marc looks at him and then looks at the earring.
Marc looks back to Sadria, “Isn’t that one of the earrings your father gave you?” She looks to Marc, “Yes, but you know that I never wore it anyways. Why not give it to someone who will?” Marc sates, “That is a very good point.” Matt looks to Marc and back to Sadria, “Can I have something to drink?” Sadria looks back to him, “I’m sorry, of course you can. What would you like?”
She walks into the kitchen, Matt and Marc following. “I’d like some pop if you have any.” Matt replies to her. Sadria looks into the refrigerator and pulls out a 2-liter of Faygo Orange Soda. She gets three glasses down and pours pop into them. She picks up two of them and hands them to Marc and Matt. They take them and Matt practically downs his soda.
She picks up the third and takes a drink, “Anyways… who are these kids following you?”
“Just kids from school.”
“What are their names?”
“Billy Baker and Bobby Marshall.”
“Well, I’ll have to call the school tomorrow and tell them that they won’t leave you alone.”
“That’s not all that necessary.” Matt says while blushing nervously.
“Yes it is. If they keep this up, I’m going to have a talk with their parents.” Sadria says profoundly.
Matt finally stops blushing, “Well thanks for the pop.” Sadria smiles at him, “No problem.” Matt sets the empty glass on the counter and heads toward the door “See you later, Mrs. Huwig!” She blushes a bit, being called ‘Mrs. Huwig’ and looking at Marc, “Good bye, Matt!” Sadria turns and watches as Matt leaves and closes the door behind him. She takes the empty cups and places them into the sink.
Sadria washes them and leaves them to dry. Marc walks up behind her, “What do you say we go back to cuddling on the couch and watch some movies?” Sadria turns, smiling, “Sounds like a plan to me. But, first, let’s get something to take in there and snack on.” Marc nods his head and moves to the refrigerator, opening it and looking to find something. Sadria then looks in the cupboard and finds a box of Cheese Its. She pulls it out, just when Marc pulls out some chocolate-covered strawberries and cheese cubes.
Sadria looks at him and laughs a bit. “Well at least it isn’t popcorn. I know how much you hate it.” Marc says, looking back at her. Sadria nods, “Let’s go watch some movies, shall we?” Marc takes her arm while balancing the food in his other hand. They sit on the couch, placing the food on the coffee table in front of them, and watch more movies.
It's a beautiful day. Birds chirp as the fly down the middle of 13th street. They suddenly stop and align themselves on a white picket fence around an old house on the corner of 13th street and Main Street. The house is made of stone and has a magnolia tree, along with an herb garden, in the front yard. The For Sale sign now reads Sold.
The birds begin to fly away as a moving truck backs into the driveway. Another car slowly pulls up and parks right in front of the house. The driver slowly takes off their seat belt and opens the car door. A beautiful, young woman with beautiful silky, jet black hair, which comes down to about her knees, steps out of the car. She's wearing a black leather mini skirt with a black leather halter top to match, and black leather boots, about knee high, caress her legs. Her blood red eyes sparkle in the sunlight as she licks her ruby red lips.
She closes the door of her car, looking at the house, and walks up to the moving truck. She looks at the men inside of it and they smile at her. The driver begins to talk, "Where do you want everything, Sadria?" She replies to them, "I'm not sure yet. Let me take a quick look at the house first." She walks away from the truck and approaches the front door of the house. She opens it and walks inside. She takes a quick look at the living room and the kitchen, which you can see both at the front door. She turns around and walks back out, leaving the door open. She walks back to the truck and tells them, "For right now, just put it all in the living room. I'll figure out where to put it all after that." Then the men get out of the truck and walk around to the back of it, opening it. They begin to move everything from the truck into the house. Sadria walks back into the house, after the men, as the birds begin to fly back to the white picket fence.
A neighbor woman, carrying a freshly baked apple pie, walks up to the house. Her husband and son company her. She knocks on the already open door. Sadria calls, "Come on in. I'm just trying to figure out where I'm going to put everything." The neighbor family walk through the door and looks around. Sadria walks into the room and smiles at them, holding her hand out to shake theirs.
"Hi. I'm Sadria Huwig. I just moved here from Akron, Ohio." The woman replies to her, "I see. How do you like Castle Rock, Maine so far?" The woman shakes her hand and then hands her the apple pie, "I baked this for you. I thought that you might like it since you're new here. It's apple." Sadria takes the pie and smiles, "I'm sure I will enjoy it. Thanks." She walks into the kitchen, the family following, and set the pie on the counter. Sadria turns back to them, still smiling.
"I'm sorry. I must seem rude. I'm Elizabeth Harris." the woman proclaims. Sadria then looks at Elizabeth's husband and son. Elizabeth starts, "This is my husband, John and our son, Matthew." "It's Matt, not Matthew, mom." her son complains. Sadria smiles at Matt, "It's nice to see kids that kids like to voice their opinions. I may be only 27, but we rarely voiced our opinions, for fear that no one would listen, and they usually didn't."
Elizabeth states, "Well, we have to get going. ‘Matt' has to go to the skate park with his friends." Sadria looks from Elizabeth to Matt, "I think I have something that you would love to have, Matt. I bet that all of your friends would die to have it, because it's one of a kind, custom made." Sadria then walks into the living room, Matt following her, "What is it?" Sadria opens a box that says Halloween and search through all the heads in the box. Then, she pulls out a skater earring and hands it to Matt, "My father had it made for me when I was younger. He thought that it would match my outfit. You can have it; I don't ever wear it, since my father passed away." Matt replies, "Thanks!"
Matt puts the earring in his ear, after taking out his other one. They walk back into the kitchen, where Elizabeth has been watching, "That was nice of you, but may I ask why you are giving it away?" Sadria's smile suddenly fades, "Well, I never wear it and my father has gotten me more custom made earrings than just that one. I just noticed that Matt has his ear pierced so I thought that he would like a new earring." Matt looks to his mother, impatiently, "Come on mom! I can't leave the guys waiting! Besides, I want to show off my new awesome earring." Elizabeth looks at her son, "Fine, we're leaving now. The world will end if your friends have to wait at least five more minutes."
Sadria shakes hands with Elizabeth, again, and John. They walk back to the front door and the family leaves. Sadria walks back into the house to where the box she got the earring from sits. She takes the box and walks into the kitchen, where she is all alone. She begins to take the heads out of the box and arrange them on the counter, away from the pie. She gives a high, shrill laugh, "Hello Mother and father. How are you this fine October month? Well, it's time to hang you up for Halloween. This time I actually have a tree to hang you on." She walks back into the living room, grabbing a second box which reads Halloween and brings it into the kitchen. She takes heads out of this box and arranges them on the counter, also, "Ah, my ex boyfriends. You should have never broken my heart. You all paid your price for it."
Sadria put the heads back in their boxes and take them, along with actual Halloween decorations, out to the front yard. She sets the boxes down, hangs up the decorations, and then walks to the tree. She takes the heads out of the box and begins hanging them from the tree. The moving men then walk up to her, the driver tells her, "We have everything in the house. We'll be back later to help you move everything into their proper rooms." She turns and looks at them, "Thanks, Marc. I appreciate it." The men get back into the truck, pull out of the driveway, and then drive off down the road.
Sadria walks back into her new house, after finishing putting up the heads and decorations. She closes the front door behind her and walks to the living room. She sits at a little table on the floor and grabs a piece of paper and a pencil. She begins to think of where she is going to put everything. She then draws a diagram of the house and writes which items go into which room, for Marc, "I hope he will be able to understand this." She finishes the diagram and stands up. She finds some tape and then picks the paper up, walking to the front door. She hangs it on the outside so that Marc will find it, and hopefully use it.
