So I'm sure by now everyone is well aware of what is going on in Texas concerning the devastation and catastrophic flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The storm has been downgraded from hurricane to a tropical storm but it continues to dump more than 4 inches of rain per hour. Two people have already died, several are injured, and countless more are reportedly trapped on the roofs of their homes by the rising flood waters. Rescuers got too many calls to respond to each one and had to prioritize life-and-death situations. In other words, not everyone can or will be saved from this unprecedented event. Houston's Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez used Twitter to field calls for assistance. Perhaps one of the more heartbreaking things I read in the news about Harvey was this:

Among those seeking help was a woman who posted: "I have 2 children with me and the water is swallowing us up."

Houston has received 25 inches of rain already with more than 4 inches continuing to be dropped per hour, and an additional 15 to 25 inches is possible over the next several days as Harvey has stalled out over Houston. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said authorities had received more than 2,000 calls for help, with more coming in constantly. Harvey arrived as the fiercest hurricane to hit the U.S. in 13 years and the strongest to strike Texas since 1961's Hurricane Carla, the most powerful Texas hurricane on record. It looks as though Hurricane Harvey is determined to leave it's mark upon history.

Here lately everyone has been so caught up in this silly political and civil bickering, I think that these natural disasters are our wake up call. Sometimes people need to be brought low as a whole to realize we ARE all the same. Mother nature is a powerful force which humans cannot reckon with on any level. Nature's wrath does not discriminate as human's do, and rarely does it give second chances. Sometimes we need to be reminded of just who we are here. We can show emotions, we have the ability to forgive and love one another. We are still merely guests here, we are merely inhabiting this world. Perhaps one day will come when we no longer need catastrophe to get our attention and sympathy and compassion for one another. Perhaps one day..........

Hurricane Harvey, category 4, made landfall on the Texas shores late last night and left widespread devastation in it's wake. Just how costly this storm will be in terms of destruction and fatalities will only be determined over the next several days. It is a very slow moving storm which is predicted to linger and dump torrential rain over the next several days possibly bringing as much as two to three feet of rainfall in some areas. Officials say that fatalities have yet to be confirmed, but an estimated 5,000 people did decide to ride out the storm in the coastal town of Rockport, Texas where Harvey made landfall. Authorities asked those who stayed to write their social security numbers upon their arms for the purpose of body identification. An even more grim report is that calls have been coming in across that area about walls and roofs having collapsed on top of people. Due to high winds and hazardous conditions, authorities have yet to be able to get out and began searches. Harvey has been downgraded now to a tropical storm, but the rainfall and flooding is said to continue for several days. Right now, Harvey is a waiting game in which we can only hope and pray for the best right now. I have a story for people who rant and rave that veganism is the correct and only diet humans should be following. My Sister-in-law is a vegan who has made all the typical radical vegan claims. So one day, I got so sick of hearing about it that I decided to put her alleged scientific proven facts about veganism to the test. She was always claiming that meat and meat products made her sick with symptoms ranging from nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, fatigue, muscle cramps, ect. So while she was at work, I decided to cook chicken legs and rice. I cooked the chicken and the rice seperately, otherwise she wouldn't have ate it or she would have started her delusional symptoms of "meat sickness". But what I did do is instead of using chicken flavored Bouillon cubes in the rice, I simply strained the juice off the chicken itself into the rice, seasoned it up, and left it at that. When she got home that night, she fixed her a huge bowl full of that same rice, not knowing I had used real chicken broth. She sat down and ate every last bit of it and even went back and got a second bowl of rice. She said "oh this is sooo good, I don't know how you got this to taste so damn good!" I never told her that I used real chicken broth, and guess what, she didn't get sick not one single time that entire night. She even took some to work with her the next day and was still happy and healthy when she got home. I did that same thing at least two more times using beef and pork the next two times. And wouldn't you know it, she never ran to that bathroom, not one single time. All those horrible symptoms she claimed to get every time she'd knowingly eat meat, now seemed to be mysteriously absent. To this day, she still has no idea that I continued to use real meat broth in her rice and she never got sick from it.

Now before you say "oh that was so evil of you to trick her like that and ruin her diet". Let me just clarify something for you, she used to love to eat fried chicken and pork chops, and the only reason meat used to make her sick, is because she wouldn't cook it all the way done. It would still be raw around the bone and blood would be oozing out the bone. Then she'd let it sit out on the counter for HOURS on end. Does food poisoning ring a bell here? And I only did it after she made the nasty remark that all people who eat meat deserve to suffer and die from cancer and heart attacks. She claimed human teeth are basically like cow teeth, therefore we humans should only eat vegetables...AND SHE IS AN EMT STUDYING TO BE A REGISTERED NURSE! So my actions to secretively make a complete fool out of her were quite justifiable in my opinion! Seriously, people like that need their fucking head examined by scientists!

i know someone who had a vegetarian diet and she was unwell, had to take iron pills to balance her body. It did not work and she was forced to give the diet up. humans are omnivores not herbivores so all meat or all vegetable diet is no good for you.

I agree with you VonEaland, all meat or all vegetable diets are both unhealthy! And no Art, I don't agree that all people who meat should die of horrible diseases such as cancers and cardiovascular diseases as my Sister-in-law stated they should. That is why I did what I did to her, to prove that her "meat sickness" was all in her head, it was psychological, not physical. Most vegans will tell you that you have to take supplements to get the needed nutrients that you lack in when you follow such a strict diet. She stays packed full of so much fiber she can't even tell when she has to have a bowel movement, it just runs right through her. She ends up accidentally defecating herself at the slightest strain. She never had that issue before she started her vegan diet. And when she unknowingly ate the rice with real broth in it, she was perfectly fine, she did not get sick one time. But if she decided to eat meat knowingly or something with meat product in it, she suddenly felt ill and ran to the bathroom to throw up. Knowingly VS unknowingly, if she knew she got sick, if she didn't know she was fine. That is what I mean, it was psychological, not physical.

i dont know about her but im telling you from my experience that ever since i quit eating meat my body healed up i lost a lot of weight and i never felt better ill risk it and go on and on if i fall sick well then ill go back to eating steak and all that jazz :)

My wife received a phone call yesterday from someone claiming to be an "affiliate of Windows technical support department". I answered the phone and as soon as I heard the caller's voice, I knew right away that this was a scammer so I faked like I was following his directions and proceeded to waste his time and then cussed him out and hung up on the bastard. Had I actually followed his directions, it would have allowed him remote access to my computer in which he then would have hacked it, downloaded all the sensitive personal information from it, uploaded malicious malware, and locked my computer up. Then he would have requested me to pay him to unlock it with a money card purchased from the local grocery store. But I already knew all this, so I did what I always like to do when these assholes call, proceed to waste their time so it is that much less time they have to scam someone else.

The two most common scams you can receive over the phone are people claiming to be from the IRS and people claiming to be computer technical support that need to remote access your computer to fix viruses. First of all, the IRS will never call you about taxes, neither will any technical support department call you about fixing potential problems with your computer. And none of these companies will ever ask you to pay them using gift cards or GreenDot MoneyPak cards from the store. NEVER EVER give ANY personal information to these people that call claiming to be from the IRS or ANY technical support department as they can and will hack you, steal any sensitive personal information and compromise any and all accounts you have! A good number of these scam calls will claim to be based right here in the United States and it most even show US locations on the caller ID, but in reality they are made from fake call centers based out of countries such as India or Pakistan. The name of the caller usually shows up on caller ID as "Unknown Name" and the phone number from which they make these calls changes frequently so they are able to continuously call people who block their numbers. The caller will usually use very broken English along with a heavy Hindi or Middle Eastern accent, and usually sound very in-confident in what they are trying to explain. When these scammers are pressed for more information about the company they are working for exactly and the details behind why they are calling, they will act very evasively giving little, if any, real details. Further pressing of information from them usually is answer by the scammer repeating what they have already said. After a while or if called out for being scammers, they will either hang up or they will become hostile using extremely vulgar language and/or offensive/threatening remarks. Do not be intimidated by this, they are scammers and even if they threaten you with imprisonment for not cooperating with them, do not believe a word of what they say. It is all a scam to rob you blind of everything. The best course of action you can take when someone calls from an "Unknown Name" or "Unknown Number" is simply do not answer or hang up and block the number and/or report the number. I personally like to waste their time as it is that much less time they have to scam someone gullible enough to allow themselves to become a victim. But NEVER, under ANY circumstances, reveal ANYTHING about yourself to them!

Some individuals who aimlessly shuffle about this planet have the potential to build colossal mountain ranges out of their egos, but then they can never seem to escape that vast, dark chasm of undeterminable depth they call an IQ. I am not the most intelligent individual, but then I never claimed to hold that title either. I do not claim my views and opinions are absolute truth or that they are even right. But I will state them regardless of who likes or dislikes them. Everyone holds an opinion or belief, this in itself does not bring an individual honor or respect. Nor does proudly declaring your opinions and beliefs to the world make you an honorable person. If that were true, everyone in the world would be a respectable person because as I stated before, everyone has a personal opinion or belief, it doesn't mean you are any more special or enlightened than the next person on this planet. To think that your word carries that much weight, isn't knowledge or wisdom, that is egotism.

I love trolling ignorant individuals who think their personal opinion "carries weight".
