The long sword resting at his side grew heavier as the afternoon rolled on. A high mid-day sun shone upon him casting a tired shadow from the rider and his steed. He tried not to think about what was happening in the life that lay behind him. Thoughts crept in his head making more doubts on his decision which made him ride harder. In the distance he saw the outline of the castle as it appeared to be floating in the air. He could feel the heat rising off of the sand all the way to the top of his legs. A cool breeze finally drifted along cooling him a bit but it only made him want to push on faster to his destination. He pulled back on the reigns with a resounding "WHOA!" letting his steed grind to a halt. As he dismounted he looked high above at the climb to the castle that awaited him. The sun was starting to set as he hurdled the last of the large climb reaching the immense gates of the castle. Flinging open the gates his peering eyes were met by those of the savage beast he had come to slay. He ran at the creature full speed taking out his sword with a fierce yell and plunging it deep into the beast. As the animal fell over his eyes now went behind it to the treasure it had been guarding. Had this treasure been worth giving one's life for he pondered. Opening the chest a golden hue fell across his face knowing instantly that it was worth every second of his treck. Riches beyond his wildest imagination lay before him. A coy smile crossed his face as he picked only one thing from the box. Returning to the beast he retrieved his sword and drug the carcass from the castle down to where his steed had been resting. The stars were just appearing as the quiet night was shattered with a loud cry. "Little boy play time is over now come wash up for dinner." He shook his head looking back up the tree to the tree house with a smile. He squeezed the beast tight with a kiss upon it's head "come on teddy it's dinner time" tucking him under his arm beside his favorite comic grabbing his stick horse from the sandbox and trotting on to the backdoor...
