Forgotten Energies Spell
Color of the day: Ivory
Incense of the day: Lavender
Sometimes, we forget to use earth energies to rejuvenate ourselves. When stressed at work, remind yourself to take a few minutes and breathe deeply. Go outside and look at the sky. If the sky is clear, say: "Clear of sky, and clear of eye, I see the way to spend my day." If the sky is stormy, say: "Storms of life may cause some strife, yet clear the way to a brighter day." Getting in touch with the elements will help enable you to accomplish tasks that formerly seemed overwhelming. When you return to your job, chant the affirmation and then center your attention on the task at hand.
From the Carmina Gadelica, ancient Celtic oral tradition.
The ancient Celts had their own ideas about what is needed for the health of the spirit and the good of All, and those ideas have a whiff of wild magic and poetry about them. Read the commandments of the earth-centered Celtic culture here, and see how they differ from those of the Judeo-Christian tradition.
SIMPLE SOLUTION:
Give thou thine heart to the wild magic,
To the Lord and the Lady of Nature,
Beyond any consideration of this world.
Do not covet large or small,
Do not despise weakling or poor,
Semblance of evil allow not near thee,
Never give nor earn thou shame.
The Ancient Harmonies are given thee,
Understand them early and prove,
Be one with the power of the elements,
Put behind thee dishonour and lies.
Be loyal to the Lord of the Wild Wood,
Be true to the Lady of the Stars,
Be true to thine own self besides,
True to the magic of Nature above all else.
Do not thou curse anyone,
Lest thou threefold cursed shouldst be,
And shouldst thou travel ocean and earth,
Follow the very step of the ancient trackways.
Samhain Lore - The Cauldron
reposted with premission of the author Beth Corwin
"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog"
"Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing"
"For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and babble"
"Double, double, toil and trouble,
Fire burn, and caldron bubble"
William Shakespeare
Cauldrons are one of the common symbols of Samhain. I personally love my cast iron cauldron (it is a large antique one that holds about 1 1/2 gallon and has a handle) and I could not live without it. Since we heat our house with wood only and my wood stove has a nice flat top on the burning box, I cook alot in my cauldron all fall and winter. I cook stews, roasts (oh yeah, gotta love burned dead cow! soups and all sorts of things in it... then I just wash it out and use it for rituals too. So here is some lore on the cauldron.... .... just in time for Samhain!
"The cauldron or pot symbolizes cyclical time and the lunar calendar. This is because the cauldron represents the womb of rebirth, the bowl of blood held by the Hindu Kali and other goddesses. This blood is the Wise Blood from the Cosmic Womb. It has been called soma by the Hindus, red claret by the Celts, and greal by the Welsh Bards. In Vedic myth, Indra stole the soma so that he could rule over all the gods, a reference to the stealing of importance and power from the Goddess for a patriarchal god.
The Goddess and Her cauldron is the center of all feminine power and every female group. Spiritual transformation can only come through Her cauldron, or belly-womb. Ancient tradition says that only women can tap into the great power of the cauldron, for only women are made in the image of the Goddess with Her all-renewing womb of rebirth and transformation. This tradition remains in the figure of the witch and her cauldron.
The cauldron is also the repository of inspiration and magick, as seen in Cerridwen's cauldron which was sought by the Bards. The Goddess has long been considered to be the source of inspiration and the Mistress of Magick. When a true initiation takes place, the initiate willingly descends into the cauldron, she is often filled with ecstatic emotions when she returns to her present state. She may sing, play music, dance, prophesy, see visions, or become creative in poetry and prose. In short, she is filled with Goddess spirit and inspiration, the type of power that only comes from the sacred cauldron. Such Bards as Taliesin stated that they regularly "drank" from the cauldron to promote their creativity and divine inspiration.
Magickal Meaning: development of psychic gifts; creative talents being used. Coming to terms with physical death, either through the death of someone close to you, or a very personal experience in dreams and/or meditation."
Cauldron Banishing for Samhain
"Into your cauldron, place a large black votive candle. On small pieces of paper write what you wish banished from your life, one banishment per paper; fold each paper once away from you. When you are ready, light the candle inside the cauldron. Now light one piece of paper in the flame of the candle and drop into the cauldron. Keep going until all papers are gone. There will be alot of flame, so please use caution and make sure no flammables are nearby (i.e. curtains etc.). In fact, it would be wise to keep a box of baking soda or salt near your work area (just in case). Let the cauldron burn itself out; then clean when cool.
Samhain Invocation For Prosperity
By Gaean Taeapharo
After this time
Of the thinnest veil
New Year come
Prosperity prevail
An end to chaos
An end to strife
Prosperity among us
Entering our life
We will come to reap the rewards
Of our hard work
Through the storms
Always remembering
Nothing is for free
We shape and create our destiny
So in the time of the waning sun
Thoughts of dreams
And things to come
We will see the path clear now
Our Prosperity has come and we know how!
But remember to continue
On your path through the sand
Success is no accident
It requires a plan
Author's Notes: I found this very effective when it was performed in a group setting. Of course you may alter it to fit a solitary ritual as well.
Samhain Incense
4 parts Dittany of Crete
2 parts wormwood
2 part red sandalwood
1 part myrrh
1 part poppy seeds
½ part sage
½ part white sage
½ part cloves
¼ part bay leaves
½ part jasmine
6 drops of cedarwood oil
Pinch of salt petre if you want it to crackle and spit!
Morgana's Blessing Incense
1/4 cup sea salt (cleansing)
1 tablespoon powdered cinnamon (raises spiritual vibrations)
1/2 tablespoon powdered benzoin resin (purification)
1 teaspoon powdered dragon's blood resin ( adds power)
1 teaspoon dark musk oil (passion)
1 teaspoon crushed lavender buds ( love)
1 teaspoon crushed rose petals ( love)
Put sea salt in a glass bowl. Add ingredients, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add small amounts to charcoal and burn. Keep extra in tightly covered jar.
Allegedly any question asked during this ritual will be answered, while any wish made will be granted.
Simmer basil, rosemary, Saint John’s Wort and wolf’s bane in a cauldron (though wolf’s bane being highly toxic, it is highly suggested to drop that ingredient). Interpret the patterns made by the steam; scry by gazing into the gently bubbling liquid.
Halloween Spell
By Gerina Dunwich
http://witchcraft- supplies. com/Spells_ Samhain.html
For many witches throughout the world, Halloween is an ideal time to magically do away with weaknesses. The Celts of old, for instance, on Samhain slaughtered all livestock that were too weak to live through the coming winter. Using a quill pen and dragon’s blood ink, write upon a piece of parchment the weaknesses you wish to be rid of. As you concentrate on your intent, crumple up the paper in your “power hand” and toss it into a fire or set it ablaze by holding it above the flame of a black candle. Place it into a fireproof container such as a cast iron cauldron, and as the parchment burns away into ashes, so too shall your weaknesses be consumed by the flames of magic.
This chant can be used outdoors around a bonfire or inside around an extra large altar candle.
Fire red, summer's dead,
Yet shall it return.
Clear and bright in the night,
Burn, fire, burn!
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.
Fire glow, vision show
Of the heart's desire,
When the spell's chanted well
Of the witching fire.
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.
Fire spark, when nights are dark,
Makes our winter's mirth.
Red leaves fall, earth takes all,
Brings them to rebirth.
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.
Fire fair, earth and air,
And the heaven's rain,
And blessed be, and so may we,
At Hallowstide again.
Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's aturning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallowstime,
When the fire's burning.
