I pad through the darkness and look without care,
hiding in shadow, my teeth sharp and bared.
I'm covered in blood and cold to the world,
so how has my soul become so unfurled?
You saw me and greeted me and moved to my side,
I growled and I snarled and moved back to hide.
I gave you my worst and you took in stride,
and reached out to entangle with strong ties that bind.
The straps did not cut, nor did they confine,
there is plenty of play and I find I don't mind.
They are bonds of wisdom, understanding and trust,
and your light into darkness swirls in the dust.
You bring me your light and I try to turn way,
and though you don't hold me I find that I stay.
The courageous young woman with soft words and looks,
has brought low my wall and tamed the scarred wolf.
I now pad beside you, watching your life,
ready to leap, bared fangs sharp as knives.
And should you tire and you, sleep would claim,
I stand in your light, to guard over your dreams.
