" Why do I keep having these horrible night terrors..What do they mean?" Blair asked aloud, to no one in particular.Pushing her covers from atop her slightly she arose, stripping to be nude. She went to her wardrobe, the questioned running threw her mind. racing over and over as she absently plucked a plain pair of leather trousers and a loose, billowing top. She adorned her under garmets and then her chosen atire. Picking up her brush and running it threw her long tresses. She sighed as she brushed walking to the full lenth mirror and staring at her reflection that looked like her, seemed to be her but in the same way seemed to not be her. Staring long and hard at the circles starting to form due to a lack of sleep. She turned away from the mirror and put on her boots. She looked very pirate-like today.

Leaving her room, Isis trailing beside her, Blair descended a large balconied stair case and outside. The Sun seemed traped behind dense clouds, which was odd for this early in the fall. Isis let out a meow and pawed at Blairs feet, in an attempt to snap her mistress out of her pause and daze. Blair had stopped walking, spacing off thinking of the jester in her dream, a shudder shooting down her spine as she remembered a piece of her past that she had ran away from. She kneeled down and plucked Isiss from the ground and stroked the ebony felines velevet pelt. As she thought to herself.

*It was Late October, 6 years prior. The flower Month,May was unchararistically warm, though no one complained. The wise woman of the village had said it would be a harse winter, many would not survive. Blair being only 12, was always warned by her mother to stay away form the wise woman, cursing and spitting at her, calling her a witch. She never listened though, Always watching the old woman work and talking with her, learning her craft. Blair was fascinated with the old woman, though no one believed anything she said, then came to here when ill or a loved one was.

Not long after being initiated under the Goddess, in secret at midnight, only days befor the samhain festival.Blair smiled and was proud of what she had learn over the passing months. She had kept her meetings secret from anyone who would question her.

As she walked along the river she noticed smoke in the distance and her eyes went wide, she knew that area.It was where her best friend, Joan lived. She dropped the small basket of herbs and flowers that were usually used in samhain celebrations ans raced twards the smoke. It wasnt far, but panic gripped her stomach and threatened to come up as bile. Her heart raced and thudded against her ribs as if it were threatening to break free and scream for her. The fear made the distance seem much more.

Upon reaching the clearing of joans home, fires blazed high and hot, most of the once small, but lovely cabin was engulfed in dragon tongued flames and reduced to smoldering ash. Joan's father stepped before herstopping her before she got to close and shook her once shouting at her, asking if she has seen his son, Joan,If he had been with her, but she heard nothing all she could do was stare at the roaring fire as other villagers made attemps at passing buckets of watcher in a line to throw onto the flames in a futile effort to douse them.

Blair slid to her knees shaking her head as she watched the fire, all rationality fleeing from her mind as one thing bounced in her mind." Joan.. his father hasn't seen him.. He wasn't with me..no one has seen him. That must mean..oh goddess..no.." with that she lost all thought as she jumped to her feet and bolted, past the flaming door taht now hung off its hinges and into the smoke and ash. Navigating futilely as she searched for her friend. What she found was a lifeless body, it was Joan, in the corner of his room, He had tried to escape via window but choked on smoke before he could make it.Tears and smoke stung her eyes as she started to caugh violently and turned to retreat the way she had come only to fine that a rafter had fallen in her path. stepping back slightly she bolted for the window, taking a broken piece of bed to smash out the window.Climbing out she fell to the ground, caughing, no one rushed to her to help her, they didnt hear her over the shouted orders and the roar of the flames. Ashen and feeling rather empty she got to her feet, stagering a moment before she started to run, not knowing quite where she was going all she knew was she need to get away from here.

she ended up stopping at the wisewomans home, battering on the door, her face was tear streaked and she smelled of soot.Marie opened the door and looked over Blair once befor ushering her inside, like a montehr end with her chicks."What has happened my dear?" she asked gentally, in her worn but kind voice that always comforted Blair."I-It's Joan..he's dead. his House was burned,he was trapped inside." she spoke shakily as if frightened to utter the sentence. Marie nodded sympathetically and gingerly took one of Blairs hands, stroking it and cooing softly in a soothing manner, like a mother with her offspring. Blair relaxed a bit, letting the remainder of her tears flow, Her mother would never be so kind like Marie, she figured that is why she felt so close to her.

after a bit more silance marie smiled slightly as a mother black cat and its kitten trotted up, the mother feline hopping into Marie's lap and the kitten padidng to Blair mewing softly and looking up at her with bright eyes. Marie looked a bit shocked. " That kitten would not even come to me.. sttrange that she chose you so soon in life." Blair scooped up the feline and scratched its head affectionately." Marie, may i keep her? I could use a friend." Marie looked skepical but nodded. " Aye, she chose you I'd hope you'd keep her." Blair smiled and patted the kitten. " I will name her Isis." Marie smiled and stroked the feline on herlap.

Upon leaving Marie's, Blair, carrying Isis with her, walked to a small clearing she knew of. she walked to a large oak tre with a large hole near the roots, extracting candles, setting them in their proper corrisponding points in directions East,South,West, and North. She lit them in that order as well.Blair with her feline familiar stood in the center, she raised her arms to the sky and summoned the elements as well as the goddess to her circle, she said nothing alloud, no need to.

Blair asked the goddess for strength and help as well as guidance. After about an hour of wishing and communicating to the goddess she sent away the elements as well as put the candles out in reverse order. She scooped up Isis once more and went home.Ignoring her mother's rambling and fathers yelling. she went to her room, shutting the door. Sliding her back down the firm wood she sat, holding her kitten close to her, but not suffocatingly so. Slowly drifting to sleep.

The sound of footsteps in her room awoke her, she had slept at the door, no one could have gotten in. Lifting her head, Isis lept form her arms, her back instantly arching and hackles raising, The small feline hissing and yowling at nothing, or so blair thought as her vision focused a cruel looking jester sat on her bed, scrossed the small room, Isis still throwing a fit. Blair froze in her spot as the Jester's lips turned up in a wicked shadow of a smile.

" Hello Blair. I see you found you're friend. A bit late sadly. I did hope you would have been better on timing, dear." He smirked whick made him look crueler." Do forgive me, I'm being terribly rude, I'm Mar." Blair stared at him numbly as he spoke, not quite piecing anything together. " My dear,Blair. You're bieng rude, stop gawking. It's not polite" He fowned but kept talking, his voice crystal clear but at the same time it chilled her to her core. She searched for worda and only came up with "what are you doing here... Why are you here, how did you know Joan didn't make it out..." she sped threw her words almost tripping over them. Mar only laughed at her. " My dear,I know alot of things. for instance, I know you're family may die Samhain night." Blair instantly glared at him, anger shooting threw her viens." What do you mean by that" she demanded in a low voice. " I can save them, But I need something from you. In exchange for sparing.. I mean saving their lives, I demand yours in return."

Blair stared at him but weighed her options, her best friend was dead, her parents never really noticed her unless they needed a scape goat. no matter how badly they treated her she loved them and wanted them safe. Looking at the jester, her amber eye shining." Deal. My life for theirs, but you have to swear on your life that they will NOT be harmed" The Jesters grin grew sinister as he rose from the bed. " Only if I have your word my lady." He mockingly bowed as she nodded.

With that done the jester vanished and Isis calmed Mewing up at her mistress as she lay on the bed. Hopping up onto the bed the kitten curled up on Blairs chest, purring.Several days past, it was the night before samhain and Blair had already told Marie about the Jester and her deal. Marie looked worried and warned her to run as far as she could, taking Marie's worry seriously she packed what little she owned and fled.*

A loud rapping came from the chamber door. the room was made of stone, cloaked in fine taspestries, rugs and fabrics of many types.A massive bed with drappery sat to the apposing wall of the door,Blair, looking about the a female about the age of eighteen, sat up. Awoken from her slumber by the thunderous rapping on the large oaken door. She arose, slipping from the warm deer pelt blankets she had been curled under. A faint tapping, like that of a bird of prey's tallons on stone, sounded just past the door. Cautiously, Blair drew up a dagger from the bed side table and held it firmly her hand held at a slashing angle. Her free hand reaching out and taking hold of the large handle to the door and pulled, opening the door a crack and looked at the floor, candlelight filled the small section of the hall, No shadows.

" I must have imagined that tapping" she thought as she opened the door a bit more to poke her head out and look down the hall one way then the next.No figures, or ghastly forms. She shook her head and stepped back into her room. Closing the door with a reassuring thud.A soft breath escaped her in the form of a sigh as she slid her slender hand away from the oak door. As she turned to walk back to her bed, she froze mid step at the sight of whom lay acrossed the end of the bed.

Laying on his side, one leg bent and the other outstretched,Was a cruel faced Jester.A Sharp toothed grin spread acrossed his ghoulish face. The cuelty reached his eyes but the smile did not. His flesh, a deathly blue white as he pushed himself up and sat, bringing his legs up and crossed them. His snicker seemed to fade as he looked over blair's face.

"you look displeased to see me, have I not made your wishes come true? are you not happy?" his voice sounded like nails on the stone walls themselves and reached every corner of the large room even though he spoke no louder than a meer whisper, but blair heard the mock hurt veining threw his tone.He stood, gracefully and his voice hardened now as he spoke once more.

" I have kept my end of the bargain, Now it is time for you to keep yours." The jester stepped twards her, his wickedness seething and seeming to eminate from his being, sending waves of black over her. She stepped back but found herself pressed against the cool stone beside the door. Panic raced threw her blood in a jolt but she faught to keep it from her eyes as she slid her hand behind her in search for the door handle. Surely if she ran screaming the servants and the men of the household would think she mad and probly put her to the torch.

As she found the handle the jester seemed to vanish rapidly appearing in front of her, his hands outstretched. She felt his icey hands slip around her neck in a caress but then firmly lock around, cutting off oxygen. A gasped yelp escaped her as she attempted to push at him but alas her arms were to short and only brushed his jester attire.

Blair started to get light headed, her mind becoming foggy all she could think was " Am I truely going to die like this." As her vision began to swim she started to slack against his hands. her waist length raven tresses swaying slightly forward.

Blair shot up in a cold sweat,Her breathing ragged as if she couldnt seem to get enough air. Her hands instantly going to her neck to examine it, it felt a little tender as if she had actually been strangeled. Her black feline companion, Isis, lifted her head, from being curled at her mistress's side, and mewled, her large orange eyes seeming wise and a little concerned as she looked up.Blair sighed and stroked the sleek, velvet fur of Isis as she lay back down, the feline crawled up next to her head and stared at her mistress.

" Why do I keep having these horrible night terrors..What do they mean?" Blair asked aloud, to no one in particular.
