I'm sorry to say it and I know it's tough but I don't really see another option. And him hitting you in the face, no matter HOW pissed he was, is a big waving red flag. He should have bee kicked out right then.
In my opinion, you should kick him out. And if you have any trouble GETTING him out, call the cops.

He obviously has somewhere to go when he leaves for days at a time...he can certainly stay there.
And yes after he hit you...He should of been out on his ass. Yes he is absolutely using you for a place to live. He doesn't contribute to anything in the house except waisted space.
He is a bum and if he hits on woman who takes care of him, then he is a waist of sperm and deserves to be out of society its self and in jail.
GET HIM OUT before it gets alot worst than a hit in the face.

A guy should never hit a girl regardless of how badly she pisses him off.I've never hit a girl In my entire life and believed me.I've been through hell with some of my exes Including 1 that abused me too by hitting In the head with a cast iron skillet.I didn't hit her,but my black belt friend that was a girl when she seem my face,she took care of It for me If you know what I mean.
Kicked him out If you haven't already,because once a guy has hit a girl,he will do so again.And If he's not helping you out,then that's a very bad thing too.
