I don't understand why music is no longer appreciated as an art form. This is a prime example of why aggressive music, metal in particular, is not very popular in America. There are so many people simply listening to bands because it's "cool" or "trendy", who don't bother to examine the music and understand all the underlying elements that make it what it is.

Take some of my friends, for example. I hold nothing against them, don't get me wrong, but many of them are a bit...lost, musically. They'll listen to a song apparently because it only "sounds badass", while not bothering to care who the band members are, without bothering to read or understand the lyrics, without really bothering to take the time to truly appreciate the music.

Metal is a complex, multi-faceted genre that should not be listened to casually while you're talking to your friends on AIM. I don't know, maybe I just feel this way because I'm so passionate about music. I think it's only natural to have the desire, upon listening to music you truly enjoy, to fully understand the concepts behind the music and the lyrics, to take in the brilliance of every instrument played, etc.

I think this is all due to music now becoming a product in capitalist America. Guitar Hero, anyone? -_-

But, seriously, you can't put a price on art. Well, you can, but it doesn't define the art's worth.
