Heartache

Torn,

Twisted,

I tried to retain,

The force of the tornado,

that moves within,

Battering my heart,

Lashing it with rain.

Cold,

Empty longing,

I hoped to avoid,

To shy away from the maelstrom,

Lest it devour me whole,

Take my last morsel,

And leave me devoid.

Promises,

I keep,

Trying to keep,

They are ripped from my hand,

By uncaring fate,

I am left here again,

And my only cause is to weep.

Joy,

Is lost,

Somewhere I seek,

But nowhere is here,

Like that smile that I had,

When first did we speak.

Love,

Is a terrible ache,

When only the cold wind blows,

When only the one person knows,

I fall to my knees,

My legs cannot carry,

The weight of this heartache.
