It really is like the school playground.
I just never dreamed I would ever be a monitor for this crap.
Growing up has it's negative sides.
Today, I got offered a half-decent PC for next to nothing. Which, after being given a 21" monitor for practically free, is a good thing.
I also have just been given a mountain bike for nothing. And it's black.
Tonight, I will watch the Euro Championship Semi-Final with a few beers, have my housemate cook dinner and come back online to seek out and destroy those who would annoy me.
Next week, I intend to purchase Age of Hyboria, before getting a new cushion to sit my rather numb bottom upon.
Unfortunately, the good always comes with a price.
In return, the universe has decided that I have to and have a surgical extraction of my broken tooth, at some considerable cost and pain, as well as a re-filling of another tooth.
C'est la vie...

I was starting to get jealous till I read the tooth part...good luck with that.
I feel your pain, a similar one at least. Hope it goes ok for you.
I have to say that I disagree. No war is 'good' and every one of them has only created a further reason for continued conflict.
War is the result of a desire to achieve a utopian ideal which others disagree with, through the use of force and intimidation, and the subsequent eradication of any religious/political set of ideas which contradict those of the national interest.
While this drives technology, it does not provide the only means by which humanity might 'better itself'.
I think that applying concepts of balance to war and peace is fallacious at best, since I am sure that those who suffer from the effects of war would be able to understand and accept a freedom to exist without fear of violent death.
One doesn't need to know the horrors of war to appreciate the joys of peace.

I agree, war isn't "good." By definition, it cannot be. But it is sometimes necessary, just as you learn martial arts and hope never to need it...but if you had to stand up for someone small and/or frail being harmed, or to stop someone from hurting you, you would have the strength and tools to do so.
I agree with Joli on this one.
So do I Sinora.
Perhaps I should have been more specific. "War" directly is never good but it is through conflict in general that advancements are made. Strength through adversary etc.
I got home late. Mostly my fault, so I'm annoyed with myself now. I got a new 21" monitor out of it though...
I also went and installed a whole wedge of plugins for Firefox...and now VR loads slowly, but it's really nice being able to block the ads.
I have edited an earlier journal entry to do with another member on this site and the threats made by that person.
For the member who asked the Acolyte question about it, and anyone else who's had the problem, the right hand user menu heading colours can now be adjusted using the CSS.
Firstly, it pisses me off when morons stretch the page.
Onto a real annoyance... Firefox 3 is out now, but the server is overloaded and I can't get the fucker to download. The page keeps timing out.
Mozilla are aiming to set a world record for most downloads in a 24 hours period, beginning 17:00 UTC. By the way the site is jammed up, I reckon its easily going to break 5m.
IE's days are numbered.
:)

IE's days are numbered? Nah, I know far too many people who use it over the others for that to be. I personally won't use the others, they don't agree with me.
I love me some Firefox!
Firefox is eating up market share faster than any other browser. Microsuck copied many of it's features for IE7, and IE8 is behind schedule.
Firefox has better compatibility to standards and displays pages better.
Download Firefox 3 here:

Oh, I am liking this. Finally got it. A paltry 7mb download and easy install.
Runs like a dream, as you'd expect. And the best bit so far, is the 'most visited' automatic/temp favourites list. Forgot to bookmark a page? Doesn't matter any more. Sweet.
omg, you'll be saying that Vista was copied from Apple next :-p
...and is stretching the page the same as stretching the truth?!! lol
Vista is already obsolete. And it's a pile of crap. I'm going back to XP until someone comes up with a multi-platform, universally compatible OS...
Drag and drop links directly from the page to desktop, new tab, favourites...way cool.
Why you don't get rated with a ten:
While I was away finding a new fan, for my laptop, I passed three years on VR. Have I spent too long on here? It seems to have gone by so quickly. A lot has happened in my life over those three years, but yet, these last three days have been the hardest, for spending too long out of touch with people whom I love and care about.
I'm just glad to get back and find Meatball getting better. He's a really good dog that I can't wait to meet. Though I'm sure the lady he lives with is kinda cute too.
;)
I've been having talks with a few different friends here on VR over the last couple of days, and between them, and a bit of light reading, I've come close to some new ideas.
The first is the 'vampire triune'. What is it within each of the three aspects of the being (In the physical, the mind and the motivating 'spirit'), which contributes towards the defining characteristics of the vampire soul?
The other is an extension of some ideas I've looked at before in East Asian Chakra/Meridian concepts, with specific focus upon the 'Tan Tien' energy centre.
Expanding on some information I gleaned from the House Kheperu, along with my own training in Tai Chi, and understanding of how I feel and experience energy, I think that I'm close to something here that's just out of sight for now.
I'm always looking for new input and views, even if they disagree or contradict, but they are few and far between at the moment, especially on VR.
So, I hunt out people who might have similar experience and motivations, that I can get some constructive feedback from. The Coven is a place for that to happen without the common interruptions of the main forum.
This feedback might be in the form of affirmation of my concepts, which a smart cookie gave me a confidence boost for last night, or as questions to my beliefs and understanding, calling on me to look at new reasoning.
The biggest issue with vampires, is that a lot of it has to rely on opinion of observations within a metaphysical arena, rather than a scientific method using empirical evidence.
This doesn't invalidate potential truths though, since one of the most famous sayings of Descartes, "Cogito ergo sum", is a cornerstone of the rationalisation of truth by logical deduction- since we cannot prove that we (our minds) exist, yet here we are questioning it.
COMMENTS
Interesting ideals I wish you expanded vision.
I've never seen rationalism and empiricism as being mutually exculsive. Effective reasoning relies on experience and any empirical method that is perceived to be valid relies on certain axioms. I think it was Kant who went further and suggested it is the limitations of reason which determine which of these subjects are open to canonical criticism, so it is up to the individual to make their own judgements. My own experience of scientific research suggests that it is far too subjective to be considered purely empirical anyway.
Ah the good old "I don't have to prove it to you because I know I am a vampire" explanation.
The main problem, I think, is that everyone is using the word 'vampire' for a different thing - and many of the threads on here should start "In my opinion and with my definition of a vampire ..." rather than barking out their line of thought as a fact
Good ole Descartes "Cogito ergo sum" (Je pense donc je suis) did he mean literally that 'he is' that is ... he exists or more deeply 'he is' that is ... he lives (is alive). Perhaps showing that if the mind is working the person lives.
In my three minutes research preparing my counter for this debate LOL I also found Dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum (I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am) which makes the whole argument one that cannot be defeated
artemka,
You are very correct in finding the actual quote. Lucky that my final point was actually based around that and not the shortened and commonly misconceived saying.

There you go STABB, Bones has a great idea! You should make a spank stamp to give out to all the childish people on here. I'd be a bit wary of putting it on any female's profile though, you know how a lot of the VR girls are.
