Her name was Lilith and she was a pale yet beautiful girl, with jet black hair and bright
blue eyes. She lived in Paris, France and was once happy, rich, and well kept for. Her
father an aristocrat, her mother a renowned opera singer, her two sisters, Megan and
Sherry the perfect ballerina twins, and the babe, Christopher a protégé in the making and
named after his father. They were a perfect family with no care in the world. No worries
or fears, they were all safe, but in reality they were not. In one night she lost everything
she held dear to her heart. She was alone then, she was forgotten and was simply left to
survive on her own. That girl was me.
It was in Paris, France in the year of 1780 on a cold winter’s night, when the
things around us, lose their life, and death takes hold with an icy grip. My whole family
was brutally murdered in this time. I had noticed something was amiss because they had
not attended my ballet recital that night although they had clearly intended on going. As I
walked home I saw officers and firemen surrounding my home that was drowning in
flames. I asked an officer what had happened and also told him that this was my home,
he simply told me that my family wasn’t expected to survive, and there wasn’t anything
that they could do. As I stumbled down an alley way, I fell upon my knees and I vowed
to avenge my parents anyway I could. But I also realized I was only ten, and no one
would ever fear a ten year old girl. So after hearing the news of my families death
confirmed, I grew depressed and I feared that perhaps I would be next. A few weeks
later I was placed in the ballet dormitories and was said to be taught there. My mom had
decided this if something should have occurred. But one night I had overheard my
teacher speaking with someone about transferring me into an orphanage. That night I
had decided to runaway and become a childhood thief that I had only read about in books.
It was better than being picked off one by one and made to clean in an old home. I didn’t
want this life so I left the dormitories with the little belongings I had left, and started what
I wanted to be a long and fanciful journey. But I was snatched into an alley and my life
was taken from me. This is were my tale begins….
“ Let me go, please let me go!” I pleaded. “ Your family tasted wonderfully
young one, and I have no doubts you won’t be either ” I heard the figure on top of me say.
“ get off of me!” I yelled and pounded on the figures chest and biting savagely. “Do you
think this hurts me, child? I no longer feel pain, and here you are pounding on my chest
and biting as if it will save you. Foolish mortal. I‘m not even human. Your fate has been
sealed. And you will die like I did” and with that I felt a pain on my neck. I fainted from
fright and the last words I heard were “ I will see you soon, young one”
I awoke in the dirty alley with a man poking at me with a stick, “You alive, love?”
he asked with drunken breath. I could see he was a beggar by his tattered clothes and I
could still hear my mother’s voice telling me “ Lilith, never talk to beggars, they’ll give
you pox. ” she told me. “Yes I’m fine, and stop poking me with a stick you filthy
beggar.” I shot back angrily. “Hey, you have some manners girl. Or I’ll beat you with
this!” he answered angrily shaking the piece of wood, but fell back into his drunken
slumber. I had stumbled to get up but my legs were unstable and I felt uneasy and
nauseas. I had dusted off my dress and I had started to walk into the light when I heard
something fall from my pocket. I picked up the piece of paper and opened it, it was a
letter to me, and it read:
“ Dear young one,
Feeling well? I didn’t think you would, but I felt the need to ask. I must
remain gentleman even through the harsh circumstances that you are now in. By the way,
don’t try to walk in the sunlight until you’ve gain full stability of your legs. You’ll also
have to eat soon. But not what you have in mind. Now listen carefully, you aren’t human
anymore, and now you are a creature of the night. Just like yours truly. Get used to it. I
will also tell you that I killed your parents, and I don’t regret a thing. Your father was a
liar, your mother was unfaithful, and your siblings were horrible children. But you, you
were perfect and beautiful. I just needed to have you for myself. So now, you are mine,
And what the beauty of it is, I’m saving you for last. You are merely a delicacy for me
and will be treated as such. Until that day. Ourevuar Mon petit chat.”
I crushed the paper and shoved into my pocket with shaking hands. “ I will get you,
Who ever you are. I swear it on my family’s souls, you are as good as dead.”
The years that passed were a struggle. When I finally reached my 18 birthday, My
family’s highly respected inheritance money was granted to me. In some strange
perspective, I felt like I didn’t want it. But I still I bought a home, gained a job at the
opera house, and had tried to start over. But I was still searching for the murder. I was so
behind in the things I had left to figure about my families murder. I had no clues to where
he resided, where he might be found, or how I could get rid of him. I knew nothing of
him, and yet I wanted him dead. Questions remained in my mind like “Who is this
murder, and why did he pick me? Oh, the nights I spent balling over the emptiness that I
felt. How could this have possibly have happened? Why did that man come and destroy
our perfect family? I never stopped to think of the reasons. For there were none….
On one cold winter night, on the anniversary of my family’s death, a week after I
turned 21, I was walking through the city park on my way to the cemetery, and I was
starting to lose hope. But as I walked down the concrete path between the roses and
lavenders, I saw a man, trying to seduce a young girl. He was of a tall stature and had
long midnight colored hair. He wore a long overcoat and was dressed completely in
black except for his white collared shirt. He had pale skin and a pearly white smile that I
could see was winning over the girl. “Hello , there?” I whispered to myself. I saw his
head snap in my direction. “Well, well. If it isn’t you again?” he said quietly shoving
the girl away, who angrily stormed off. “ Do I know you?” I said sarcastically, as I
walked closer to him, then it dawned on me. This was the monster that killed my family.
“ My name is Malquior Vancrougher. So, Now do you get it? Finally, my delicate little
raven gets it. What took you so long raven? Did I truly hurt you that bad?” he laughed.
I could feel my blood run cold then. “You….you monster!” I managed to sputter. “Now
young one, don’t you think that’s acting rather rash? Seeing as I do have the upper
hand.” he said and then vanished, and appeared behind me. “Such a shame that you have
to die. But on the other hand..” He stood there with my head jerked back and my hands
behind me. “If you want, you can marry me.” he whispered in my ear with a sneer. “I
would sooner die, than marry a monster.” I said and spat in his face. He shoved me on the
cold cement and wiped his face. “ I’m starting to think I should kill you slowly instead of
quickly.” “That would save me the time of looking at your hideous face” I retorted.
“You know, your family was the best killings I’ve ever made. In fact I was surprised I got
to see your show and go kill them all in the same day. By the way, you were lovely in it.” he winked at me.
“Do not mock my pain.” I hissed. “Why, are you going to cry? Do I make you
sad love? Please don’t cry, it makes a mess.” he said sarcastically. He turned away
laughing to himself. “This is my chance. I can run from him, and then try to find
something to kill him with.” I thought. “Don’t bother.” he said quietly. “you may be
smart, but I can read your mind. You have nowhere to go. And if you do leave, I’ll find
you. It’s no use really. I’ve already had a taste, now I want the main course!” he said and
jumped for me. I quickly moved and began to run back down the path, with my skirts
held halfway above my thigh. I hadn’t the slightest idea of where I was going. All I
knew was that Malquior had to pay for what he did, and that he was going to die by my
hand. As I continued to run, I felt as if there was something wrong. Was I going to do
the right thing? By killing Malquior, what would I accomplish? My family was already
dead and I could join them, perhaps this was more like a favor. “No, your too far into the
game, now you must finish it!” my mind yelled at me. So as I continued running, an idea
had sprung into my head. The only way to kill a vampire is to stab him I the heart with a
stake. Then he will die and be freed at last.
I ran towards the lumber yard where they shipped wood in from various places
around the world. It was dark, but I searched frantically in the barns and in the crates
outside, tearing the bottom of my dress and my sleeves and scrapping my leg, also cutting
my hands and feeling splinters throughout them. When he had arrived to where I was I
had a stake and an axe in tow and was just feet away from the leaving dock, facing the
ocean. With my dress torn up and my face bleeding from cuts unknown he simply starred
at me. “What are you going to do with those?” he asked truly curious. “ I’m going to
kill you and avenge my family.” I said quite frankly, not really believing myself. “Is that
so? You aren’t even a full vampire and you think you are going to kill me?” and he broke
out into a hysterical laughter. “Forgive me but that sounds ridiculous!” he choked out. I
had begun to giggle, and then broke out into a laughter larger than his. He stopped. “It’s
not that funny” he said quietly but I continued. “I said it wasn’t that funny.” he said
louder, but I continued, growing louder as he tried to speak. “Be quiet!!” he yelled and
grabbed me before he could think. It was too late, and my plan had gone perfectly.
“You….” he sputtered and dripped blood from his mouth and on to the top of my
corset. “What? Did you think I would let you get away with what you did? What you
had done to me? To my family? Foolish vampire.” I said still holding him tight against
the stake grasped in my hand. “ I….loved you ever since I saw you.” he whispered.
“Will you take me where your going to go?” he asked pleadingly. I was shocked. “How
could a monster like you know what love is?” I answered angrily, thinking back to what
he just said. “Well if I am what you say I am, then you are no better than I. Since we are
of the same thing.” He smiled with his teeth showing with blood. “I am nothing like
you!” I said and shoved the stake in deeper, twisting it slightly. “You kill like I kill. You
think like I think, and you feel love and hate, as I once did.” he whispered. “So what is
the difference?” he asked. My head was now flooded with horrible memories. The truth
about my horrible childhood. My father beating us, my mother withdrawn with terror and
was always gone with her friends. The girls always fighting, and baby Christopher was
destined to be a failure. What I had thought of my perfect life, was only a fantasy.
“Malquior was only trying to save me from them all.” I thought. “My sweet raven….now
you finally get it…now you finally see.” he whispered and kissed me on the cheek then fell back into the sea. “I shall never love again.” I told myself. As I looked up to the
horizon I saw the future before my eyes. “Yes Malquior” I told myself. “I will take you
where I’m going…” And I followed him into the see, with the stake in my heart.
The End
