Making a Witch Bottle (Protection Charm)
This spell is super simple but can also be really powerful.
all you need is:
- glass bottle (doesn’t have to have a cork top, but that adds to the aesthetic appearance of the charm)
- protective herbs/plants (I usually use salt, pine, bay leaves, mugwort, pennyroyal, clove, a bit of garlic, cinnamon, or even black pepper!)
- sewing pins
- candle
- sharpie
Once you’ve collected all your herbs and plants, place them all in the bottle. It doesn’t matter what order they go in, and it might not look really pretty like this picture. Or if you want you can spend more time making it look nice! (This isn’t my picture, I didn’t have a good one of any of the bottles I’ve made, so this isn’t an exact image of what yours will probably look like.)
Place the pins into the bottle last, visualizing a protective sphere around yourself as you do so. Close up the bottle once everything is inside. Very carefully —it’s REALLY easy to drip hot wax or burn yourself!— pour wax from the candle along the edge of the cork or the top, sealing the charm. While you’re doing this, say:
By the power of light, on this cloudy night,
I call upon goodness to lend me your might,
By the power of three, this will protect me.
At the end, I like to draw a pentagram on top of the cork as an extra added sign of protection. Not necessary, but it adds to the spell and it looks awesome :) I’m sure another protective symbol, or something that’s significant to you, would also be lovely!
