Tomorrow is my twentieth birthday, an event to which I have not been looking forward. This night will see the death of my teenage self and the new day will herald the coming of changes. Unless of course I do what my friend does and say I'm twenteen.
I’ve been meaning to write new entries all month but things have been getting in the way so here’s a look at my February so far (and possibly a little of January.)
After the Christmas holidays there were a few changes made in our flat. Jo moved out because she thought we were too weird (Weirdoes: one, Normals: zero) and then Kim and Elisha moved out as well to live with their friends. That left half the flat empty. For all of ten minutes. Now Charlotte, James and Kirsty have moved in and Racheal’s always here so we have a very busy flat. Especially when seven people have one hour for lunch and everyone wants to use the oven.
The first ten days of February saw me participating in a contest run by the House of Nocturnal Retribution (thanks NB) and playing literally thousands of games of Hangman. The list below should give you an idea of how obsessed I became.
You Know You Have Been Playing Hangman For Too Long When:
~* You dream of playing the game and of words that might come up *~
~* Your flatmates stop asking what you’re doing and instead query how many games you have played thus far *~
~* You consider missing lectures just to play the game *~
~* You don’t bother going to sleep just so you can play the game *~
~* You start to wonder if your finger are magnetically attracted to your laptop *~
~* You play at every possible opportunity *~
~* You eat cold food to save time *~
~* You forget to eat altogether *~
~* You spend an evening at a party and regret not playing hangman *~
~* You seriously neglect your university assignments *~
~* Your friend mentions hanging himself and you blurt out how many games you have played *~
I had thought of other points but have, unfortunately forgotten them.
February 5th: Charlotte’s 19th birthday and the day of her surprise party. The night began with a rapid decoration of the flat and then the placement of the alcohol for the evening on the kitchen table. It took up most of the space on the table and we had to put the food elsewhere. Since I was the only one not drinking, I ended up in charge of music. DJ-ing using YouTube to find the random songs they requested. It started out okay but unfortunately deteriorated into requests for the Teletubbies and Steps! :s Otherwise it was great night, even if the kitchen/common room was an absolute tip afterward.
February 14th: Singles Discrimination Day. I mean, Valentine’s day, the over-commercialised couple-orientated annual waste of time. I was single this year. Need I say more? It was also Racheal’s birthday. Now that has got to suck.
February 20th: I’ve been threatening my flatmates for several weeks that I would put a chart up to map their behaviour (like they do for young children in school.) This day saw me do just that. So far everyone is equal on two stickers apiece. However, it’s only for good deeds and behaviour. The one for bad behaviour is going up next week. It will fill very quickly.
February 23rd: Today. Earlier I came to the conclusion that I may use too many acronyms. In once sentence earlier I mentioned NCIS, CSI, NTU and MMORPGs. That was closely followed by FBI, MI6 and AI. I guess this could by why people often don’t understand what I’m talking about. On the other hand, maybe not.
