Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Romans 12:10
There was a little girl who was afraid in her bedroom one night because it was so dark. So her daddy went in and said, “Honey, why are you crying?” “Because I’m so alone,” she said. So he told her, “Well, you’ve got your teddy bear. Hug your teddy bear.”
She said, “I don’t want my teddy bear. I want something with skin on it!”
We need someone with skin, flesh, and blood to come and put a warmhearted love and hug around us and lift us up. That’s why the Bible says a brother is born for adversity (Proverbs 17:17). That's what brothers and sisters are for! My favorite definition of a friend is “someone who comes in when all the world goes out.”
As human beings, we need to gather together with friends and encourage one another. We need love, acceptance, kindness, and encouragement. And not only do we need to have friends like that, but we need to be friends like that.
Never underestimate the power of a good friendship. Give yourself to others, and experience the reward of living life with those who will love and encourage you!
FIND FAITHFUL FRIENDS AND BE A FAITHFUL FRIEND TO OTHERS BECAUSE A GOOD FRIEND IS ONE OF GOD’S GREATEST BLESSING
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer each person.
Colossians 4:6
You remember when we were younger and use to say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” But as we’ve grown older, I’ve discovered that it’s not true. Words can be devastating. Gossip, slander, rumors, and innuendo can destroy a person’s life.
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, during his confirmation to the court, had many terrible things said about his character. At one point, he remarked, “I would have preferred an assassin’s bullet to these proceedings.” That’s how damaging words can be. Yet very often today, many people simply say whatever they think and don’t even consider how it makes others feel.
As Christians, we have the responsibility to speak God’s truth, but we must do it in love. Yet, the reality is that way too many believers slander those whom they’re supposed to love. There’s a difference between speaking what’s correct, and speaking what’s correct...correctly.
Words do have power my friends. So let your speech be full of grace. have a care for others and their feelings. Respect their point of view. And above all else, keep an attitude of love and welcome toward all.
SPEAK THE TRUTH, BUT DO IT IN LOVE, AND ALLOW GOD MESSAGE TO FLOW FROM YOU WARMLY. WELCOMING THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO HEAR HIS MESSAGE!
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Billy Graham once said, “Too many Christian churches, television and radio programs have been geared to please, to entertain and to gain the favor of this world… (but) within the New Testament there is no indication that Christians should be healthy, wealthy and always successful in this present age.”
Whenever I teach my Sunday bible study, I’m reminded that it is my first and foremost responsibility to be faithful and true to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. And the pure Gospel is not always pleasing. But as Christians, we must never sedate the message. We must please God first! And when we please God, there will be opposition.
As Christians, we’re going to ruffle some feathers at times. This will happen any time you stand for truth. But when people argue against us, we must make sure they’re resistant to our message, not our methods. We have to preach the Word, but do so in love.
Don’t let resistance discourage you from standing on God’s truth. Instead, keep your feet planted firmly in the Gospel, speaking the truth in love and standing for your Savior. When that’s your focus, God will use you to reach others for Christ!
INSTEAD OF TRYING TO GAIN FAVOR IN THE WORLD, YOUR FIRST RESPONSIBILITY IS TO STAND ON GOD’S TRUTH AND LOVE!
