Devotional *Being Thankful*

20:53 Dec 20 2011
Times Read: 485

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:15

I heard about two young city slickers who were driving through a small town out in East Texas. They stopped at a little café for a bite to eat, and they noticed an old farmer bowing his head and giving thanks for his food.

Now, this wasn’t something they were used to seeing in the city. So they walked over to that old man with a little smirk on their faces and said, “Sir, does everybody around here pray like that before they eat?” Without even looking up at the two, the old man said, “Nope. The hogs don’t.”

As believers in Christ, expressing your thankfulness toward God for the blessings in your life is of the upmost importance. In fact, as you read today’s passage, you’ll see that there is a direct correlation between letting Christ rule in your hearts and being thankful for His blessings!

Now, I’m not saying you have to bow your head and close your eyes every time you chew a piece of gum. But take some time each day to acknowledge God’s blessings, and thank Him for what He’s given you. When you do that, you’ll begin to see just how blessed you are and just how good God is!

THANKFULNESS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. SO SPEND SOME TIME EACH DAY ACKNOWLEDGING GOD’S BLESSINGS AND EXPRESSING YOUR GRATEFULNESS TO HIM.

Devotional *Loving the grumpy*

17:20 Dec 14 2011
Times Read: 492

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

1 Peter 4:8

I heard about a man who was always griping at his wife. He said to her one day, “Honey, I want two eggs!” So she asked him nicely, “Well, dear, how would you like them cooked?” And he said, “I want one scrambled and one sunny side up.”

So she scrambled one and cooked the other one sunny side up. But when she put it in front of him, he snapped back, “You scrambled the wrong egg!”

Now, there are some people who are just like that. They gripe and demand this or that. And whether you’re on the giving or receiving end of that kind of attitude, today’s verse is for you because you’re called to love one another even when it’s hard!

If you and I are honest, there are people who get on our nerves. And the funny thing is that if other people are honest, we probably get on theirs! Why? Because we’re different from one another.

But despite our differences, we’re called to love each other because it’s in love that we’re able to look past the annoyances and see others as God sees them. So if you have someone in your life who irritates you, show them love by looking past their quirks and see them as God does!

EVERYONE HAS SOMEONE WHO IRRITATES THEM AT TIMES. BUT HONOR GOD BY LOOKING PAST THE IRRITATIONS AND LOVE THEM AS HE DOES!

Devotional "Loving the unlovable"

14:47 Dec 08 2011
Times Read: 502

… God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 5:5

Whenever I have a chance to go to the ocean and look out all the way to the horizon, I’m in awe of the greatness of God. It’s hard to imagine, then, that at sea level you can only see a little over three miles. And it’s even harder to imagine that what you’re seeing is less than a billionth of a percent of all the oceans in the world!

And that’s just the surface area. When you add in the fact that over half of the ocean is more than 10,000 feet deep, the vastness of our planet is astounding. It’s so big, in fact, that scientists estimate that we have only discovered about a tenth of the species found in the ocean!

Yet, when it comes to the love of God, that ocean is simply a drop. God’s love is so vast, so full, and so powerful that anything else we consider ‘big’ pales in comparison to its grandeur. And the best part is that this wonderful love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

There is nothing that you can do to make God love you more or less. The love of God is not conditioned upon you. God loves you because it is His nature to love. So share His love with others no matter how ‘unlovely’ they may be!

Now, I know the first thing that is comes to mind is "You want me to love a murder or a rapist or even a child molester? it's easy to talk about love when your life hasn't been into a living hell because of one of those monsters"

It's true, I have no place to tell you how you should feel. and I'm not. all I'm saying is..Hate the sin...love the sinner.

GOD’S LOVE IS BIGGER THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE. SO SHARE HIS LOVE WITH OTHERS EACH DAY NO MATTER HOW ‘UNLOVELY’ THEY ARE!

Devotional for 12/7/11 *A Easygoing Church*

16:27 Dec 07 2011
Times Read: 514

My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

James 2:1-4

Years ago during the days of segregation, there was a church that took a staff vote and decided they weren’t going to allow people of different races to be baptized in the same water. So one minister who vehemently opposed the vote stood up and said, “Follow me outside.”

So the ministers of the church all got up and walked outside. As they stood in the parking lot, this particular pastor pointed up at the church sign and said, “We need to change this sign. We’re no longer a church, but a country club!” And he resigned his position that day.

While years have passed and attitudes have changed, Christianity today is as cultured, comfortable, and air conditioned as ever. It’s easy come, easy go, take it or leave it. And so many people join churches like they’re joining country clubs rather than accepting the heavenly call of advancing God’s Kingdom.

The real church is not a country club, but a rescue mission. And those who go on rescue missions get dirty and even put themselves in danger for the sake of their mission. So remember that the church doesn’t exist to serve you. You exist to serve it!

DON’T FALL INTO THE LIE THAT THE CHURCH EXISTS TO MAKE YOU MORE COMFORTABLE. INSTEAD, SEE THE CHURCH AS BEING ON MISSION FOR GOD, WILLING TO SACRIFICE AND ENDURE HARDSHIP FOR THE KINGDOM!
