Well, the time finally came. My beloved cat of 23 years has passed on to the next realm. I knew that it was coming he has been so thin these past few months. Last night he called for me to come and get him (he has had a lot of trouble coming up all the stairs) I got him and we sat on the couch watching TV just like old times.



Today before work he looked at me and asked to be let outside. (I have someone that comes to tidy up the place on Thursdays who always lets him back in) I got the call at around noon that she found him in the sunroom - in his favorite spot .......



I have never felt that the animals in my life were my "pets" instead they were my roommates, confidants and friends. All of the animals that chose to live with me came to find me - not the other way around. I had a small dog named Smokey from the age of 11 until I was 21. He died of heart failure in my arms. Elmo was my lab rat that I saved from euthanasia in college. That little guy would sit on my shoulder and eat his little rat treats while I studied. He lived for 4 years. Vey long for a rat.



And lastly there was Dakota. In my early twenties I shared a house with a few guys. The one that lived in the basement apartment had Dakota and another cat, fish and his beloved Rottweiler. One day the other cat was hit by a car and my housemate decided that he no longer wanted to take care of Dakota. From that point his care came to me. That was almost 10 years ago......how time flies.



I miss him ..... his cranky attitude and his soft purrs. I hope that he has found a great place on the other side. One where there is always a sunny corner to lie in and fields and fields and fields of catnip...........
