Now as we all know, I am a musician, and so, I appreciate music, as a whole. I won't deny that I know what I like, as it is a simple fact of life that we are all unique and have our specific preferences, however I cannot truly call myself a musician if I deny the fact that even in the music I dislike the most, there is a sense of musicianship that I like...I just may not tell you. *wink* We as Americans-for those of us that are americans-can easily say that we have our preferences, and listen to only them. As youth-if you're younger than the age of 25-we are easily swayed by certain fads that come across our path, and in this helter skelter cycle, small time musicians slip through the cracks. And so it is that I have decided to start something that I think is very important, finding small time musicians and putting them out there...(note...this will be going on just about every blog and what not I post in as well, not just here.) To be blunt, every so often, maybe once a month, I will do some research on certain up and coming musicians I think have good musician ship, and expose you to them, as it were.
The world has surprised me this time with a startling beauty from Sweden, Lykke Li. If you haven't heard of her, well, now's your chance. A soft, ethereal voice, awesome dance moves, and great beat bring to light a message that I feel conveys the emotions and speaks for the youth of this world. With a will to succeed, I think that she has great potential, I mean, the girl moved to New York and sang on the streets for a few months, just to get her name out there. She is an inspiration for all of those who wish to do the best they can.
She has an album out called Youth Novels, I'm not quite sure if it is selling in the US, but I know that I will certainly buy it if I see it. She can be found all across Youtube, and just recently appeared on "Last Call with Carson Daley," just last week. This young woman is an astounding singer. The thing about her, is that she doesn't only sound good after her voice has been doctored up with computer stuff, but she also sounds great live! Her music videos are an art in and onto their selves, and while odd to watch, display a sense of artistic values that only suit the music being played. For an Indie artist, I'd have to say that she is one of the best...and I like Indie Music. She portrays a sense of Individualism that is just the thing we need in this world.
But don't take my word for it...listen for yourself. Without further adieu, I bring to you:
I'm good, I'm Gone by Lykki Li
Once you've finished with the video, feel free to check out her website: LykkeLi.com. She has a song that is free to download on there, if you so decide that you like her music!
