"Knowing Me, Knowing You" by ABBA has been going through my head off and on all day today. It's been playing repeatedly the last few minutes. At least it isn't "Camptown Races". I hate the "do dahs". I also can't stand "Zippity Do Dah". I guess "do dahs" just bother me.

I know, right? I'm just glad it isn't cartoon theme songs that were playing in my head.

School is starting Wednesday. I won't have my books until after the first class. Great the way the whole planning thing works out when dealing with financial aid. At least I hope there's enough left over for books! Eek!

From an email I sent to a friend.

When I was going through a few things yesterday, I ran across my old battery operated alarm clock. I've had this clock since 1987. The last time I looked at it, I was amazed that it was still running off of a single AA battery that had been in it for a few years. So I looked at it. It's still running. It's still keeping correct time, and the battery, which has been in it since 1992 and expired in 1996 has corroded and is leaking out the back. More than 20 years! The clock may be ruined by the leaky battery. It may not run again once it finally stops, or if the battery is changed. But I am amazed!

The last concert of the season is tonight. It's a "pops" concert. We'll be playing music from Oscar-winning movies. "The Pink Panther" theme, music from "Fiddler on the Roof", the main theme to "Rocky"('Gonna Fly Now'), 'Lara's Theme' from "Doctor Zhivago", music from "The Wizard of Oz", and music from "Schindler's List" are all on the program. I know I've left some out. I'll add them later.

I've been told there's a "special" concert July fourth, but other than that, this is it until the fall.

An Email I Sent to a Friend About CenturyStink

23:16 May 05 2014
Times Read: 807

I called CenturyLink. They said they fixed it. Maybe. I got a response to the email I sent them on Sunday. They said they'd take the charges off, but that it would take up to 3 billing cycles to complete. I responded with this.

I cannot afford the larger bill. At all. I called this morning and was told the charges were taken off. I cannot afford three billing cycles of the extra charges- I simply don't have the money. I will pay the amount I owe for the first bill, minus the erroneous charges, and thereafter what I was told my bill would be. I cannot pay money I don't have for a mistake you made. I hope you won't cut my service off for not paying the "full amount", or charge me "late fees" for the incorrect charges, when the charges I won't be paying are due to an error on your part, not mine. Since I spoke to someone this morning- after I had sent the email to you, but before I had heard back from you- I will go by the information I got this morning. I hope I won't have any more problems with this. I do not have to pay for services I am not receiving. That would be theft.

So I am going to send this to the FTC too- along with screenshots of the email they sent me. I wonder if CenturyLink has already been contacted by them. They seemed to be very eager to fix the problem this morning.

Complaint I Filed With the FTC

16:16 May 04 2014

I was told by four different people at CenturyLink that it would be $29.95 for internet and phone bundled together. On the day my service was supposed to switch to the new account (my cousin had paid for it for the year previous) I ended up coming home to no internet. I called, got transferred, several times, got hung up on, called back, was transferred again. I finally got someone who figured out that I was given incorrect information about the speed my modem (which I own, thanks to my cousin) could go up to.

Because of this, they had me slated for fiber optic installation, which they later told me they don't even have in my area. I called back, more transfers, got hung up on again. Then they end up telling me the internet, by itself, will be $65.00. What? The guy told me they didn't have that bundling package. I hung up and called back. A woman- named Sherry- said they did, but I didn't have time to go through it with her, so I had to call back. I ended up cancelling the old account- which I'd only had four four days, and under which I had no service- and calling back and starting a new account. I was told the bundle was with home phone only, not cell, so it would be 29.95 plus my verizon bill. I went ahead and signed up anyway.

I got no service from the 15th to the 21st. The account I canceled was supposedly active from the 15th to the 19th.

I got a bill for those days for $24.00. I called and they said they'd take care of it after much arguing. Then the guy-Justin- said that for my trouble he'd offer me TV service for a discount. I told him I didn't have a TV so no.

I got a bill today for $129.24. $38.73 for "change of service", $7.98 for "related monthly charges" for internet, which they had not told me about, $12.00 for DIRECTV, $36.00 for "related monthly charges" for TV service,(which- they charged me for 8 'additional' TV's) $3.12 for taxes fees and surcharges on TV (which, again, I did not order), and $29.95 for internet. No! I told him no! I put $0.00 in the "How much did you pay" category, because I haven't paid them yet. This is my first bill. I'm going to call Monday and see if they will take care of it, and I've already sent them an emal. I can't afford this bill, and I shouldn't have to pay for services I did not get or cannot use. I didn't know who to put as the company representative because I've now spoken to over 20 different people. So I just put the first person I talked to. I talk to someone different each time, and they keep changing their story on what packages are available. If I have to, I will cancel, but everything I read online says that people get stuck with a $200.00 early cancellation fee. I didn't sign anything. I shouldn't have to pay if they're not keeping to what they promised, should I?

I have had a similar problem, but not so serious. When I first bought my phone, I had no idea that it was running on GPRS. So I would unknowingly spend a lot of time on the net. My bill ran into the hundreds. Even more so than yours. I had the shock of my life and I called up the service provider to sort things out. It took me several tries as well to get them to understand. Eventually they got it and reverted the fee to my ordinary payment.

Yours is just a misunderstanding, I guess. Let's see how it goes. :)

My Email to CenturyStink

09:13 May 04 2014

My first bill is incorrect. Firstly, I am being charged $78.12 for internet service, when I was told it would be $29.95. My phone is supposed to be bundled with it, but that isn't listed. I'm also being charged for a change of service which I did not make. A charge of $38.75 was added for that. The charge was for television service. I don't own a television.

A few days ago, I called about being charged for service I didn't get (a different incident). The man I spoke to- named Justin- said he'd take care of it-after arguing with me for awhile- and that I wouldn't have to pay it. Then he said for my trouble he'd sign me up for a discount on the television service. I told him I didn't want it- I don't have a television. So he caused two charges to be added to my bill which I NEVER agreed to. I have had the run-around over and over on the phone and had to cancel before. I was supposed to be paying about $65.00 for internet and phone combined. Also, I'm being charged for a modem rental. When I called to order service, I told them I own my modem. One was sent anyway, which I returned-unopened- through UPS. Please fix this. I cannot afford this bill. And I will not pay for something I didn't want.
