12:07 May 04 2017
Times Read: 172

This is a novel I started when I was in my teens and never really got around to finishing it. I think this would be the perfect platform to get back into my writing, you sentient beings would make perfect fodder for my twisted dreaming that I'll scrawl down here.

Shadow of Ghall

Chapter 1

The exercise had payed off all those years ago. But that had become a joke once he had joined the clan. Stealth had become a major factor, one where he had use of now. The band of seven had been sent out and few objected. The clan had need of the gold reward and Tye had heard Ryken complain, And carelessly on the High-borns part had been the downfall of all the other clans.

Out of the dark came soft footfalls, the man regarded as their better. He was sure the man was meant to silent. 'Fool' he heard Jack mutter. And knew the man's fate as well as any of the others. He saw the glint before he heard the hum closely followed by the sound of a body crumpling to the gravel road. Ryken rushed forward with a rustle like wind over grass, unnoticed by the untrained ear. By the time Tye reached the body he knew the man would be just a man to any who found him. Stripped of anything that might mark him as anything but a homeless peasant, caught in the sudden dark of this unforgiving climate. Tye estimated a window period of two minutes before the guards arrival. They reached the manor houses outer wall and scaled it easily, their claw like fingers biting into the stone crevices. As he jumped over the wall his wings if you could call the tatters on his back, spread parachute like, gave him a soft near soundless landing.

Getting in had been the easy part Tye knew. He was surprised to find the manor locked tight. They padded through the arch around the side of the house all alert. Tye envied Jack for bringing bracers and a left shoulder pauldron. Tye felt his sense heighten if that were possible and realized twilight had failed and the night had finally fallen, consuming the town and the band of seven with it. They scaled the wall easily enough through the balcony at the rear, overlooking the shadows of the garden. Ryken paused and he knew it had been too easy but he seemed to shrug it off with a twitch of the shoulder. Which unnerved him coming from the granite that was Ryken, whom he didn't like but admired for still he didn't know why.

The moved into the manor itself holding their breath. The idea was to go light against their better judgement. But light was perceived very differently by each. Jack seemed to be dressed in case of twenty armed guards, waving his axe around as if warding off some unseen evil. Ryken was closer to my impression of light with sword strapped to his back plain leather scabbard covering a medium broad sword with a gemstone pommel. Syren and Kat had bows. Syren looking food as usual in black leather that looks like its tailor made to fit her curves, mind you it probably was. Her father a highborn had a bastard child and her mother was murdered which spared her but she was reduced to a grunt. Julian her unofficial mate had two short swords both curved and serrated.

They stepped through the hallway and headed to the rooms. Darkness their ally and speed their strength.
