Fucked World

Times Read: 550
This is a place full of tragic misshapen contradictories
Where the days are long and nothing is ever as it seems.
Where the losers flourish in the midst of backstreet carnivals
And have the bedside manner of crazed, sweat-soaked cannibals.
First-born sons reach slowly their long-awaited deaths
While the heat of an earthly Hell robs them of each hard-won breath.
Where mothers smoke crack in lurid back alleyways
Giving themselves over to chasing the high between three-dollar lays.
Where once-favored daughters walk the streets, robbed of all their pride
Taking everything the world dishes out when there's nowhere left to hide.
Fathers betray their own hearts in hopes of finding peaceful oblivion along the path
Only to wallow in sin and regret, basking only in a chaotic downpour of aftermath.
Where love is long-forgotten and trampled under the feet of lost and weary souls
Giving rise to a new breed of hate for those happy with their mediocre roles.
Where daylight is masked by the darkness of ignorance and hypocrisy
Forever looming only for the blindest eye to see.
Fade Away
06:36 Dec 04 2006
Times Read: 562
Joyous in their ill-won victories
Ever neglectful of their mortal enemies
Wound up in all manner of sin
Regardless of cost, determined to win
Bogged down in the world's insanity
Living a life of both confusion and vanity
Taking the service without paying the wages
Acting out the part on invisible stages
Always running, never heeding the path
Too quick to judge, sparing no wrath
On a journey with no destination
Short a dream and a plan, by any estimation
Forever wandering away from the light
Yet shocked by the dark serpent's bite
Always surprised by their own deceit
Losing but never admitting defeat
Watching the script of life helplessly unfold
Trading in hate and disdain, souls bought and sold
Passions crunched down, once wild now tame
Expecting different but receiving the same
Going to great lengths to go through the motions
Warned of the future, but denying these notions
Given every conceivable opportunity
Foregoing the chance for a peek at destiny
Looking at the world with a blind eye
Oblivious yet perpetuating the lie
Fearful of nothing save fading away
Tossing the dice on a borrowed day
Taking life for granted, while all around death rages
Destined to be the trend for future ages
Always looking but too blind to see
Wallowing in their own murdered prosperity
Rendered hopeless by many private demon spawn
Eyes ever closed to the coming of dawn
Fearful of the growing expectation
The memories die more with each generation
All around them, light turns to dark
Having good intentions but still missing the mark
All around them, the light fades away
They've yet to realize the heavy price they pay.
