Sheri and Carlos laid on the grass and stared up at the stars. What a wonderful night it had been. They watched the sky's flames twinkle gently as they laid there in silence. Carlos turned to Sheri and realized that her eyes were closed. He stroked her eyelids and they snapped open. She looked at him. He smiled.

"Are you tired?" he asked.

"Just a bit." she answered.

"Want me to take you home?"

"But I wanna lay here forever Carlos." she said, giggling again.

He laughed.

"Come on, let me take you home." he said.

She stretched her arms out.

"Carry me."

So he did. He carried her out of the cemetary, he carried her to the car, and he carried her, asleep in his arms, back to the side of the club. He propped her up against the side of the building. He gently shook her shoulder. She didn't stir. He shook it again, a bit harder this time, and her eyes opened.

"I fell asleep didn't I?" she said, smiling.

He nodded and smiled back. She laughed and stood up. She pulled him into a hug and whispered in his ear.

"Thanks for getting me back alright. When am I going to see you again?"

It was he that kissed her this time.

"I'm not sure. Soon. Very soon." he told her.

She smiled and walked around to the back of the club. Carlos watched her go, and would have burst out of his skin if he hadn't been as tired as he was.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was nearly sunrise by the time Carlos stepped onto the porch. He slowly walked to the door and tried to unlock it as quietly as possible. He could not believe that he had to sneak past Fawn, but he had been out the whole night. Slowly turning the key in the lock, he cringed as it clunked loudly. He pushed open the door just enough for him to slide through, and quietly clicked it shut behind him. He flicked on the light and came face to face with Fawn, sitting on the couch with her arms crossed. Beside her feet were 2 duffel bags. She glared at him.
"Where were you?" she asked flatly.
"I was with Sheri." he answered nervously. He had no idea why she was all of a sudden so intimidating.
"For the entire night? You were with Sheri for the ENTIRE night. Look at this house Carlos. Look, look around."
He shifted his eyes to the rest of the room and, for the first time, acknowledged it's state. Flower vases were smashed, paint scratched off the walls, and the carpet was ripped up and blood spattered. Then he looked at Fawn. Her face was bruised with purple and yellow, a shard of glass sticking out of her side. Tears began to run down her face.
"Fawn-"
"No! No Carlos no I needed you here! Where was your phone huh? Did you turn it off? Look at this! I needed you! Why were you out so long? WHY?" she yelled.
"What happened? Here, let me help you." he said, walking over to her and sitting down.
He tugged lightly at the protruding shard of glass. She yelped and smacked his hand.
"Are you nuts! That hurts!" she screamed.
He looked at her with a worried expression.
"Tell me what happened."
A Crack in the Mirror: 18
"Come on pick up. PICK UP." sobbed Fawn. She shakily held the receiver in one hand and held her side, which was trying to stitch itself around the protruding shard of glass, with the other. Her vision began to blur.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Carlos tried to ignore the incessant ringing of his phone. It was getting very irritating. He pulled away from Sheri's lips.

"Could you hold on for just one moment please?" he said.

She pouted a bit.

"Alright but hurry." she told him.

"I will be right back."

He grabbed his phone and jogged back to the car. He opened the glove compartment and threw it inside. It lit up. He took it back out and unlocked it, discovering several missed calls from Fawn. She probably wanted the dirty details. She wasn't going to get them. He smirked and locked the phone back in the glove compartment.

Walking back toward the cemetery, Carlos put his hands inside his pockets and felt something. He curled his fingers around it and pulled it out. It was a ten dollar bill. He couldn't help it, he collapsed into hysterics. What a sneaky little thing Fawn was. Sheri must have heard him, because she came walking down the pathway and found him grasping the gate for balance.

"Oh my god, what happened to you?" she asked, stifling a giggle herself.

Carlos caught his breath and wiped his eyes.

"Nothing, just.....nothing." he said.

She giggled and walked over to him.

"Well now that you're over it, get back over there because we aren't finished."

He smiled, following her back to the tree, and the two of them picked up where they left off.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fawn finally gave up and slammed the phone down. She limped to the broken window and took a deep breath. She needed to calm down and concentrate. She sat on the couch and put her head in her hands. She had to find Carlos and they needed to leave. She wished she hadn't let him go. But then again, had she known that this was to happen? No. There was no point in arguing with herself.
The skin around the glass in her side had healed, sealing it in place. Fawn realized this and became even more frightened. She took another breath and walked quickly into her room. She grabbed a duffel bag out of the armoire and walked into the kitchen. Setting the bag down in front of the fridge, she yanked it open and filled it with as many blood bags as she could, while still fitting a few other items. Fawn then went into George's room, grabbing his spell book, medical book, and pajamas for Carlos.
The last thing she did was hurry back into the living room, and pick up the phone once more.
A Crack in the Mirror: 17
Carlos' eyes widened and he turned to look at her. She smiled and crinkled her nose. They walked down the dark pathway that led further into the cemetary, swinging their arms as they walked.
"I always come here when I want to relax." Sheri told him. "I always sit underneath that tree over there." She pointed to a large oak. "In the grass."
She tugged him in the direction of the tree. When they reached it, she sat on the soft grass and just as she had done when they met, patted the space next to her. Carlos slowly sat down next to her, and his mind was racing with thoughts of possible outcomes. He was finally all alone with Sheri, and now he didn't know what to do. He looked at her. She looked at him. She put her elbows on her knees and propped her chin on her hands. She smiled, crinkling her nose again. He crinkled his nose back. She laughed.
"I like you a lot Carlos!" she said, inching closer to him.
His heart raced even faster than it had been. He silently cursed himself for not taking Fawn's ten dollars. He took the opportunity to place his hand on top of hers. She smiled shyly and moved even closer until she had her head on his shoulder. She giggled.
"Hi." she said, still giggling.
"Why hello there." answered Carlos, smiling back at her. "I like you too. A lot."
"Really? You like me too huh?"
"Yes, I do. Very much."
She giggled again.
"How much?" she asked. Her face was now inches from his.
He could clearly tell that this was getting serious, and was more nervous than he had ever been.
"Um...this much?" He stretched his arms wide.
She laughed and caught him off guard with a hug, knocking him over. He didn't try to get back up. He didn't want to. He didn't ever want to move from this spot. And he certainly would not be telling Fawn about any of this. Then she kissed him again and giggled once more.
"Show me."
A Crack in the Mirror:16
"Alright well..I guess I'll go then." said Carlos to Fawn.
Fawn nodded.
"I want details when you get back." she said, a sly smile spreading across her face.
Carlos rolled his eyes and walked out of the room. As he pulled shut the front door, he realized that it would be his first time outside alone since he was turned. This made him nervous, yet excited at the same time. He unlocked the car and slid into the driver's seat, sitting there for a while. He glanced over to the clock on the dashboard, which read 11:30. He had time to kill, he had agreed to pick Sheri up at 12:30. He considered going back inside, but he did not feel like being taunted with lewd jokes from Fawn. He decided to wander around town for a while. He turned on the ignition and silently pulled out of the driveway. Driving down the road, he suddenly had a thought. He was being searched for, so why wasn't Fawn? She had left without warning too, so why weren't there fliers of her? This puzzled him, and he then became very confused. A slight movement in the back seat startled him, interrupting his pondering. He pulled over and turned around, half expecting to see Fawn trying to sneak along, but there was nothing. He dismissed it simply as his imagination and turned back around. He drove to the small library located at the center of the town and went inside. He walked among the many rows of books, trying to find one worth reading. He finally selected one about manatees and sat in the plush armchair next to the window. He opened the book; someone had decided to play tic tac toe with themselves on the inside cover. He chuckled and quietly sat reading about the wonders of the sea cow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Fawn sat on her floor and flipped through the book of paint samplings that she had picked up from the Home Depot. She truly did want to paint her room, and she had her eye on a particular indigo color. She got up and held the blueish purple card to the wall, trying to visualize what the whole room might look like in it. She decided she liked it, and sat down once again to choose a color for the trim. She had a pot of blood warming in the kitchen, and she could already smell the sweet, metallic odour of it. Her mouth began to water, and she shook her head, determined to wait, as drinking cold blood still gave her a bit of an eerie feeling. She spotted a dark purple color, but thought ill of it, as there was already enough purple in the main color. She set the card down and looked around the room, mentally redecorating; moving furniture, buying furniture. She would need money for this.

She heard a beeping sound, which signaled that the blood was ready. She put away the color cards and walked into the kitchen. As she attempted to pour it into the mug, she noticed that the coffee pot- used for various things- was unplugged. Puzzled, she plugged it back in and turned back to the mug.

Pop!

She jumped. It was unplugged again. She shook her head and went back to her room. She sat on her bed and flipped through a magazine. The loud sound of the front door slowly opening caused her to look up.

"Carlos?" she called. "You forget something?"

She walked out of her room and into the living room. As she softly padded down the hallway, she called out again.

"Come back for that ten bucks, have you?"

She came to the door and froze.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A half hour had already passed. Manatees were getting boring. Carlos checked his watch again and figured he should be going. He put the book back on it's shelf and walked back to the car. He drove the few miles back to the nightclub where they had met, pulled around to the side of the building, and flashed the headlights. He was not so sure why she had asked him to do this, but he did not question her ways. He waited only five minutes before Sheri came running out of the building and got into the car.
"Hey!" she said happily, smiling as she buckled her seatbelt.
"Hello there!" he replied. He turned his head as he drove away, so she wouldnt see the huge smile on his face.
"So what are we doing tonight?" she asked.
"Um..well I actually hadn't thought about that." he said.
She laughed.
"You like cemetaries?"
"Yes, I like them."
"Maybe we could take a walk then. I know a nice one down this road just a bit."
She smiled once again, and he smiled back, nodding. As they drove, they spoke of their lives. Childhood, family, school. Sheri couldn't remember as well as he was able to, as she had been turned long before Carlos. They talked and laughed, and before Carlos knew it, Sheri was pointing to a small cemetary at the side of the road.
"That one." she said, and Carlos pulled the car over and stopped the engine.
They got out of the car and as they walked to the rusty gate, Carlos' nervousness spiked. They were silent for a while, and as they pushed asunder the surprisingly light gate, Sheri took hold of his hand.
