Ask yourself: Do I want someone like Charles Manson in my prison system wasting my hard-earned tax money? I don't know about anyone else, but I sure don't. We waste millions every year to house these criminals in a broken system that has no intention of "rehabilitating" them. My solution is simple - this country needs to take a more hard-line approach to those who break the law. Somewhere along the course of recent history, the government has gotten personal rights confused with human rights. Let's define human rights - water, air, oxygen. Okay, now personal rights - a person's ability to do and say what they want within the prescribed parameters of the law. Guess what? When you do something to warrant being put in jail for a long time or on death row, you should LOSE your personal rights - ONE appeal, that's it. If you lose the appeal, you should be executed for committing the more heinous crimes (such as unwarranted murder, rape, molestation, sodomy, etc.).
I think this should be done publicly - let's say, in the middle of times square. Nationally televised, pay-per-view events with all proceeds to go straight to the federal deficit and quality of American living. I would love to see them put Osama Bin Laden in the middle of the Bronx tied to a utility pole with a public announcer doing a play-by-play of the whole thing. There are too many special interest groups and human rights activists who are painting the wrong picture of the rights of these criminals (They have more rights than free Americans when you think about it). No hot meals, no cable TV, no weight rooms or college educations. The ones who are in jail for stupid shit should sit in their 4x4 cell and think hard about why they are in there and feel the pain of isolation - all the while mourning the loss of their personal rights - Execute the rest. I guarantee this would eliminate the deficit and reduce the crime rate.
I am really fucking sick of hearing people insisting that their religion is the only one to believe in. Religion is really simple to explain. I propose that human beings are extremely arrogant creatures who assume that OUR "laws" are the ones governing the universe.... I do not assume anything, and do not think the laws of physics apply in every nook and cranny of this universe (in fact it would be impossible for us to prove otherwise). Human beings have a problem with our unrelenting need to put labels on everything - If something has no label we don't understand it and therefore fear it. Religion is a bullshit crutch DESIGNED BY HUMANS to fulfill our need for our existence to mean something beyond existence itself. If there is an all-powerful being of some kind, I propose the following observations: 1.) It is a cynical, sadistic being that gets off on watching humans running around amok trying to comply with purported religious laws, 2.) It did a really shitty job of leaving anything behind (a supreme being who supposedly walked this earth would likely have left behind a much bigger legacy that a fucking book that has been butchered and re-authored numerous times over the centuries) and 3.) Why would an all powerful being of any description waste its time and energy on creating a race of beings only to set them up for ultimate failure? (To me, this is what suggests the sadism and cynicism). I know, Let's give this race of beings the ability to logically and cognitively observe their surroundings, ask questions and reason, then punish them when they do so.
To quote "The Devil's Advocate", "Let me give you a little inside information about God. God likes to watch. He's a prankster. Think about it. He gives man instincts. He gives you this extraordinary gift, and then what does he do? I swear for his own amusement, his own private, cosmic gag reel, he sets the rules in opposition. It's the biggest fucking goof of all time. Look but don't touch. Touch, but don't taste. Taste, but don't swallow. And while you're jumpin' from one foot to the next, what is he doing? He's laughin' his sick, fuckin' ass off! He's a tight-ass! He's a SADIST! He's an absentee landlord! Worship that? NEVER!"
So again, I submit that, as a student of science, religion is full of sensationalist claims that are over-exaggerated at best, it is a system cleverly designed to control the masses, and it is built on the human condition for our existence to mean something other than what our perception tells us. In science, we don't have FAITH that gravity keeps us all on the Earth's surface, science has PROVEN through the use of the scientific method that it does. Religion is all bullshit, and I dare anyone to prove me wrong....Because it is not possible. For a being who so loved the world, more people have died in his name over the course of human history that from ANY other cause. Period.
