In a land far, far away dragons and humans live in harmony…or for the most part anyway. We set our tale in the land of Nanaruck a beautiful and green land; it’s quite modern but still very old in some parts. Up on the hill there is a very old castle, which has stood there for generations and in the castle the present King, King Artera currently resides. His wife Queen Besa died many moons ago and he has one son and one daughter.
His son Prince Lopas – A tall young man of 20 is the heir to the Kingdom, his eyes flair like the 2 red suns currently hovering above the midday horizon. His wild untamed long black hair flows out behind him like the deepest night - Now we turn to Lopas’s sister the beautiful Princess Katerine –she is 18 years of age, she’s slim, with pale skin and auburn hair. Her eyes as blue as crystals and she reaches up to just about her brothers shoulder- Lopas and Katerine are the best of friends, their only grievance their sinister cousin Lord Fredickia who we shall get to later but for now lets get back too Lopas and Katerine.
Lopas is currently sitting in the library reading through several books, Katerine is on the opposite side of the room talking with one of the maids laughing and joking. Lopas looks over and gives a smile as he slams the book shut and tosses it onto the table getting up and yawning loudly. He then goes over to Katerine and the maid. Lopas looks at his sister and says jokingly “You talking about me again Kat?” Katerine looks disapprovingly at her brother before saying “Not every boy I talk about is you dear brother”. Lopas takes a step back in mock shock and hurt “Ohhh that was like an arrow through my heart sis”. Katerine raised an eyebrow at her brother before disappearing out of the library followed by the maid.
Lopas then wandered out of the library and headed towards his chambers where he grabbed his scabbard he then headed from his room outside into the courtyard where he saddled his horse a black stallion called Jupiter and rode out of the castle courtyard.
Meanwhile in a cave high up on the highest mountain there lived a colony of dragons, the lead dragon a 50-foot behemoth by the name of Balazar –a brilliantly vibrant reddish brown colour with a 20-foot wingspan, curved talons. A long and powerful tail able to kill a man with a single stroke, prominent spinal spikes across the length of his back and brilliantly blood red eyes- is sitting up on his ridge looking down across the land sensing trouble in the air and dissension in his own ranks.
Lopas looks up at the mountains, he’s heard the tales and old fables of the Dragons that are meant to live in the mountain. He spurs Jupiter forward as he decides to go and investigate to see if the stories are true.
In his castle high up in the north of the land Lopas’s cousin Lord Fredickia- a short squat little man of 30 years of age, with a black unkempt beard. Wild, short, straggly black hair with long ponytail- is sitting at his desk reading through several scrolls and growling angrily he then screams out loud, “I am SURROUNDED BY INCOMPETENT FOOLS”. A servant ducks out of the way as Fredickia throws a plate at the wall before shouting, “GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!” the servant hurries out of the room as Fredickia settles back on his chair. He then spins it round and looks out of his window and says to himself, “Soon, Uncle Artera. Soon your reign will be at an end and then I will become ruler” Fredickia then let out a loud booming laugh, which echoes through the halls.
Meanwhile Lopas is riding through a huge cavern, the only sound that can be heard is his breathing and the gentle clip-clopping of Jupiter’s hooves on the hard cavern floor, but what he doesn’t know is that he is being tracked by several mercenaries. Lopas pats Jupiter’s neck as the horse nickers nervously, Lopas then hears footsteps behind him and slowly draws his sword as he spins Jupiter round and cries out loudly “Whose there? Show yourselves!” the mercenaries appear with their swords drawn, there is a crowd of about five of them, all dressed in rusted battle armour. Lopas then looks at the men and says, “I am…” but he is cut off by who Lopas thinks is the leader of the group, “Quiet young hell pup. We know who you are Prince Lopas of Nanaruck, there is a bounty on your head and we aim to collect it” Lopas looks at each of the mercenaries weighing up his options before slowly saying, “I will not let you harm me. You will pay the price for your boldness”, Lopas then leapt off of Jupiter swinging his sword about his head as he lets out a battle cry striking at the men.
Lopas then flipped up over the leader of the gang, Lopas is not weighed down by heavy armour and measures his strike as he slides his sword into a crack in the mercenaries armour. Blood gushing out as Lopas pulls his sword out and swings round striking the mercenary’s head making it fall off of his shoulders as he drops to the floor. Lopas then smirks at the other mercenaries as they turn tail and run off and Lopas puts his sword back in his ruby red scabbard and leaps back up onto Jupiter continuing his journey to the mountains.
Balazar stretches his wings and then curls them up to his sides, as he heads into the cave where the dragons all sleep and see’s a slightly smaller dragon of about 40-foot in length by the name of Melokia-a dark greyish black creature with a 20-foot wingspan. Short wickedly curved claws, a short stumpy tail with an arrow like head on the end and dark cold black eyes and short spinal ridges on his back- Balazar growls softly smoke flaring from his nostrils as he see’s Melokia talking to another dragon who he is close friends with.
Meanwhile Lopas is nearing the bottom of the treacherous mountain pass, he slows Jupiter down and dismounts him patting Jupiter’s neck softly. Lopas then looks at Jupiter before saying “Well old buddy here we are, and in the next two days we’ll find out if the old tales are true or false. We shall find out one way or another if there really are dragons up in the mountains” Lopas then takes out a sleeping mattress and his blanket as the sun was setting and it was far too dangerous to carry on the journey.
Early the next morning Lopas woke up and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and watched the sun as it began it’s ascent into the heavens. He then let out a loud yawn as he packed up his blanket and his mattress and put them in Jupiter’s saddlebags giving the horse an apple to keep his strength up. Lopas then swung up onto Jupiter’s back and spurred him onto the mountain pass as they continued their mission to find the dragons.
Balazar wakes up and lets out a loud roar as if to challenge someone to find him and the other dragons, Lopas hears this roar and let out a smile as he thinks to himself, “Soon I will prove that the legends are real. Soon I will bring back a real live dragon” with that he spurred Jupiter on faster as they rode further up the treacherous mountain path.
As Lopas neared the top of the mountains several dark shadows loomed over him as he looked up and saw the dragons letting out a loud gasp before muttering to himself “My God they are real” he then spurred on Jupiter as the dragons swooped down and flew around him. Lopas drew his sword ready to attack the dragons before Balazar swoops down and lands near Lopas saying in a strange tongue “Who are you human…and why have you come here?” Lopas laughed nervously before replying “I am Prince Lopas of Nanaruck I come here in peace. I only came to prove to people that you Dragons are real and now that I have I shall leave you in peace”. Balazar snorts loudly saying “You think we will let you leave here human, none have disturbed our peace for 10 generations”. Balazar then roared making Jupiter rear up knocking Lopas from the saddle as he falls to the floor his sword spinning out of reach as Balazar’s foot comes down pinning Lopas to the hard mountain floor.
Lopas looked up with Balazar with fear in his eyes as he says, “Please, I mean you no harm I just wanted to prove to people that dragons really did exist”. Balazar moves his head closer to Lopas sniffing him before saying, “You are not like the humans that came before. You seek only to prove our existence and not destroy us”. Balazar lifted his foot up off of Lopas’s chest allowing Lopas to roll out and stand up slowly looking at all the other dragons before bowing to Balazar “I thank you for letting me go Balazar, Your secret will be safe with me”. Lopas then mounts Jupiter and spurred him on back down the mountain pass to Nanaruck.
Melokia walks over to Balazar saying quietly “Are you mad? How do we know he won’t tell the humans about us?” Balazar looks at Melokia and roars “BECAUSE HE CAN BE TRUSTED DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME MELOKIA” Melokia snorts softly before walking away back to the cave. . Lopas spurred Jupiter on faster and faster down the mountain wanting to get as far away from the dragons as he possibly could as he looked up and saw the dragons circling high above him.
Meanwhile in the north Fredickia was pacing in his study waiting for the return of the mercenaries when one of the servants came running in and looked nervously at Fredickia, the servant bowed low and said “Sire, the er mercenaries were killed by Lopas” Fredickia looked at the servant and put his head down and then brought it back up and locked eyes with the servant and roared “You incompetent fool….can these idiots do nothing right?…get out of my sight” the servant hurried off as Fredickia let out a roar of anger.
Lopas rode into the castle and stopped in the courtyard and got off of Jupiter and let out a deep sigh as he walked through the castle doors and went to his chambers where he collapsed on his chair and stared out of the window looking towards the mountain. Melokia strolled out of the mountain and leapt up into the air, he flew over the land searching for the ally that he has in the human world.
Fredickia rode out of his castle and through the forest riding up to a clearing where he often meets with MelokiaMelokia circled in the air before landing with an almighty crash onto the ground as he looked at Fredickia and snorted softly, “Your cousin is quite the thorn isn’t he Fredickia”. Fredickia glared at Melokia “You could have taken care of him when he came up to your mountain”, Melokia let out a roar of laughter “Why should I do your dirty work human?” Fredickia replied with a sly grin on his face “Because I can give you what you need to kill Balazar” Melokia thought about this for a while before nodding his head in agreement.
Lopas paced in his room thinking about the dragons and let out a deep sigh thinking to himself “What am I going to do?” He was then disturbed from his thoughts by a knock at his door and said “Come in” and in came one of the servants that was a good friend to Lopas.
Aaron was a tall man of about 22 with long blonde hair tied up in a ponytail, strong muscular build and piercing blue eyes looked at Lopas before saying “Are you alright Prince Lopas?” to which Lopas replied “Yes Aaron I’m fine thank you…what do you want?” Aaron stared for a few moments studying Lopas intently before saying “The king wishes to have a word with you Prince Lopas”
