Monologue of a Dog Ensnared
1. Someone adopted a dog. The dog was taken good care of. The master had many dogs. The other dogs were envious when the new dog could do many things that they weren’t allowed to do. The master liked him only. The master wouldn’t be around much. Suddenly, the master was gone and everything else in the house was too. Everything caught on fire. The dog felt unwanted and lonely. The dog was abused. The dog died a slow and painful death.
2. The tone of the poem is sort of filled with loneliness that once was something better. It’s like a story of when things were better, but now things have fallen apart.
3. The speaker is happier and loved and wanted in the beginning. Towards the end, the speaker is sad and lonesome.
4. The line in the poem that shows a changing circumstance for the dog is There’s fate and fate. Mine changed abruptly. One spring comes and he wasn’t there. All hell breaks loose at home.
5. The life before the change of circumstance was happier and joyful. After the change, the life was lonesome and cold.
