Black holes



When massive stars are coming to the end of their lives, they use up all of their Hydrogen fuel, because all of the fuel inside the star is converted into heavy elements, by nuclear fusion inside the centre of the massive star.



These massive stars are a thousands times larger then our Sun, and these massive stars have more mass then the Sun, so the massive star becomes very heavy inside. As the star gets heavy, its gravity and weight, becomes very strong. The star finds it difficult to hold all of this weight inside of it and collapses inwards on it self, under its own gravity, which collapses the whole star in on its self. The heavier the star becomes, the stars gravitational field gets stronger and then everything inside of the star, including atoms is crushed into a tiny single point, because the entire star is crushed by its own gravity, so small, that it becomes very dense and it then becomes a black hole.



These black holes are powerful and everything can be pulled inside of it, its gravitational field is very powerful. If light can’t escape from a Black hole, this means that nothing can escape from it, because nothing in this universe can move faster then the speed of light, so the velocity of light is equal to the escape velocity of the black hole. The reason why you can’t see a Black hole, because light can’t escape the Black holes gravitational field, because the gravity is too strong ,and is pulling the light back all the time, so light can’t get out, so the Black hole is dark and nobody can see them, because the light is trapped inside of the Black hole. It is like a dark invisible star within space time. If somebody got pulled into a Black hole, they would be gone forever and they would be frozen in time and they would never get out and they would never return to this Universe again.



When Albert Einstein did research on Black holes he said, if somebody was to go inside of a Black hole and he stayed away and watched somebody go inside of it. Once the person reaches the edge of the Black hole they would take millions of years to reach the centre of the Black hole. Einstein would see the person frozen on the edge of time, because Black holes create a large curve in the fabric of space and time. Einstein believed that their might be another Universe on the other side of the Black hole. Things could be getting pulled inside of it and end up in a different time and never return back to our Universe.

This is my written project on global warming what I did in May, because I am a science student. Feel free to read my essay.



Global warming is caused by pollution around the world. Carbon emissions are a major issue in the world, because carbon dioxide is causing the greenhouse effect, which contributes to climate change, which is causing the planet to get hotter. Pollution is mainly caused by the combustion of fossil fuels, transport and people wasting energy. Power stations are the biggest polluters of greenhouse gases, because power stations are constantly burning coal, oil, and gas to power up our cities, homes, and offices. Power stations are producing large amounts of carbon dioxide that is rising into the earth’s atmosphere.



Fossil fuels like coal and oil all contain carbon atoms, so during the combustion of these fuels, carbon emissions is emitted and released into the air. The carbon atoms react with the oxygen (O2) in the air, and the carbon and oxygen atoms bond together becoming carbon dioxide (CO2). The carbon dioxide rises into the Earth’s atmosphere, which contributes to global warming, because CO2 gases prevent the heat from the sun from reflecting out into space. This causes the temperature on Earth to rise, causing the climate to get hotter, because the CO2 gases are trapping in the reflected heat from the sun, causing the greenhouse effect on our planet.



If world leaders does not resolve these problems we are facing with climate change by 2020, the Greenhouse effect will get worse, and we will end up with serious problems with the environments around the world, because the ice caps will melt, causing sea levels to rise and will also end up with forest fires, freak weather and floods. There will be more flooding and draught in 3rd world countries and Cholera will increase from dirty infected water and they will run short of food, because they don’t have enough money, are the technology to tackle these problems with flooding and draught. If the seas get warmer then more CO2 will be released into the atmosphere, causing the planet to get hotter, the heat will get intense and this will cause land fires that will destroy animal habitats and will also end up with freak weather storms.



Solutions



The government should be thinking of new ways and greener technologies to tackle the effects of climate change, by introducing more solar, tidal, and wind power. The government should reduce carbon emissions by replacing coal with nuclear power that does not produce CO2, but the disadvantage is getting rid of nuclear waste. The government should use better resources, like geothermal energy which uses heat energy by putting water pipes deep underground, so heat is emitted from radioactive decay in rocks, and the water heats up into steam that rises and starts a turbine inside a power plant and generates electricity without producing greenhouse gases.

Greener solutions



If the government keeps using coal for power stations then this could lead to an increase in sulphur emissions, sulphur dioxide, which contributes to acid rain that will destroy forests, lakes, and animal habitats. Acid rain can seriously affect lakes, because it causes lakes to become acidic and kill a lot of fish and other species.



I understand that we can’t stop global warming all together, but everybody can make a difference to the environment they live in, by being more aware and more efficient with their energy, by using energy saving appliances, recycling and using energy efficient light bulbs.



I believe that the Carbon trust and the Carbon footprint can help with these issues by persuading the government to reduce carbon emissions by 2020 and to raise more awareness to people by persuading them to save on their energy and introducing greener technologies for the future, because in the near future coal, oil and gas will run short, and the only option there will be to go nuclear energy, because there will be a greater demand for oil and gas, and prices will get higher.



These problems with the greenhouse effect must be resolved before it’s too late, because we and world leaders can all make a greener difference for the world we live in.
