Proud Boi Who failed To Appear For Sentencing Captured

21:37 Sep 30 2023
Times Read: 231

A member of the Proud Boys extremist group who disappeared days before he was supposed to be sentenced for his role in the U.S. Capitol riot was found unconscious by federal agents after he tried to “covertly return” to his home, the FBI said on Friday.

Christopher Worrell, of Naples, Florida, was taken to a hospital where he remained on Friday, according to the FBI's Tampa office. The FBI did not provide further details about his condition.

Authorities had been searching for weeks for Worrell, who had been on house arrest when he went missing last month ahead of his sentencing in Washington. Prosecutors had been seeking 14 years in prison for Worrell on convictions for assault, obstruction of Congress and other offenses.

The FBI said that agents quickly surrounded and entered Worrell's home on Thursday after he returned, found the man unconscious and “immediately provided medical attention.” Authorities say agents found night-vision goggles, $4,000 in cash, and survivalist gear in his home.

Worrell's attorney, William Shipley, didn't immediately return a phone message on Friday.

The man was released from jail in Washington in November 2021, less than a month after a judge substantiated his civil-rights complaints about his treatment in the jail. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth found Worrell’s medical care for a broken hand had been delayed, and held D.C. jail officials in contempt of court.

Worrell, 52, was convicted after a bench trial in May of assaulting officers with pepper spray gel as the mob of Donald Trump supporters attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Authorities say Worrell, dressed in tactical vest, bragged that he “deployed a whole can” and shouted insults at officers, calling them “commies” and “scum.”

Prosecutors say Worrell then lied on the witness stand at trial, claiming that he was actually spraying other rioters. The judge called that claim “preposterous," prosecutors said in court papers.

Worrell's lawyer wrote in court papers that his client brought the spray gel and tactical vest to Washington for defensive purposes because of previous violence between Proud Boys and counter-protesters. His lawyer wrote that the chaotic scene at the Capitol “could have contributed to misperceptions creating inaccuracies" in Worrell's testimony at trial.

More than three dozen people charged in the Capitol attack have been identified by federal authorities as leaders, members or associates of the Proud Boys, whose members describe it as a politically incorrect men’s club for “Western chauvinists.”

Former Proud Boys national chairman Enrique Tarrio was sentenced earlier this month to 22 years in prison — the longest sentence that has been handed down in the Jan. 6 attack. Tarrio and three Proud Boys associates were convicted of seditious conspiracy and other crimes for what prosecutors said was a plot to stop the transfer of power from Trump to Democrat Joe Biden.

More than 1,100 people have been charged with federal crimes in the Jan. 6 riot. More than 650 have been sentenced, with approximately two-thirds receiving time behind bars, according to an Associated Press review of court records.

Mango Co -Defendant Pleads GUILTY

01:45 Sep 30 2023
Times Read: 239

One of former President Donald Trump’s co-defendants has pleaded guilty to five counts in the 2020 election subversion case in Georgia.

Bail bondsman Scott Hall, 59, is the first defendant in the case brought by the Fulton County district attorney’s office to take a plea agreement with prosecutors.

The agreement, entered in Fulton County Superior Court on Friday afternoon, recommends a sentence of five years probation.

Hall was accused of conspiring to unlawfully access voter data and ballot counting machines at the Coffee County election office on January 7, 2021.

He spent hours inside a restricted area of the election office when voting systems were breached, which was connected to efforts by pro-Trump conspiracy theorists to find voter fraud. Hall was captured on surveillance video at the office on the day of the breach. He testified before the special grand jury in the Fulton County case and acknowledged that he gained access to a voting machine.

The sprawling racketeering case brought last month by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis accused Hall, Trump, and 17 others of participating in a broad conspiracy to overturn the election results in the Peach State.

Trump and the remaining 17 defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors in Willis’ office signaled earlier Friday that they may soon extend a plea deal to one or both of the two defendants headed to trial.

The revelation came during a procedural hearing for former Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro, the alleged architect of the fake elector scheme. They are the first defendants in the case set to go on trial on October 23.

Biden Warns Of MAGA Threat to Democracy

11:47 Sep 29 2023
Times Read: 250

President Joe Biden issued blunt new warnings about ongoing existential threats to US democracy in a major address Thursday, sharpening the central argument in his potential rematch with Donald Trump and asking voters to prioritize the health of American institutions.

“There’s something dangerous happening in America now,” Biden said during his speech in Arizona, where he was also honoring his friend, the late Republican Sen. John McCain. “There’s an extremist movement that does not share the basic beliefs of our democracy: The MAGA movement.”

“There’s no question that today’s Republican Party is driven and intimidated by MAGA Republican extremists,” he said, using the acronym for Trump’s political movement. “Their extreme agenda, if carried out, would fundamentally alter the institutions of American democracy as we know it.”

The stark message was Biden’s most forceful attempt at calling out Trump’s antidemocratic behavior since the former president was criminally charged for his attempts to subvert the 2020 election results. It offered a taste of Biden’s forthcoming reelection message, one centered on Trump’s own words and actions as threats to democracy. Biden said his predecessor was guided not by the Constitution or decency, but by “vengeance and vindictiveness.”

As indictments and arrests of the former president piled up over the summer, Biden remained mostly silent on his predecessor, wary of appearing to intervene in Justice Department business. His most substantive comment on Trump’s myriad legal issues was a sarcastic remark about his mugshot in the Fulton County, Georgia, case.

But as Trump’s prohibitive lead in the Republican primary remains unchanged – and as Biden’s own standing remains mired in low approval – the president is sharpening his attacks on his most likely 2024 rival as a danger to democracy. Thursday’s speech served as yet another sign that the days of trying to keep Trump at an arm’s length are long gone.

“Trump says the Constitution gave him the right to do whatever he wants as president,” Biden said, referencing his most likely GOP challenger by name. “I’ve never heard presidents say that in jest.”

He alluded to Trump’s recent suggestion that Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, could be executed, and said Republican silence on the comment was “deafening.”

Stopping the erosion of democratic institutions and values was central to Biden’s decision to run for president in 2020, it will again be core to his reelection campaign, officials said, as he looks to energize voters and donors who have otherwise appeared lukewarm about a rematch between the two men.

Retired 4 Star Compares MAGA To 1930's Nazi Germany

11:52 Sep 28 2023
Times Read: 259

Retired four-star U.S. Army Gen. Barry McCaffrey warned Wednesday that with Donald Trump-supporting MAGA Republicans “what we are seeing is a parallel to the 1930s in Nazi Germany.”

“This is worth being extremely concerned about,” McCaffrey told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes during a discussion centered on Trump’s dangerous floating of the idea of executing outgoing chief of Joint Staffs Mark Milley and Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) singlehanded blocking of military promotions in the Senate in protest of Pentagon abortion policies.

McCaffrey blamed not the entire GOP but “15 to 25 House members, a couple of senators, and all those who are Trump MAGA loyalists.”

“This is a cult, it’s a lawless cult and it’s a major threat to the armed forces of the United States and our security,” he added.

McCaffrey described Trump’s Milley comment as “shameful” but said Milley won’t be intimidated by the draft-swerving, four-time-indicted ex-POTUS.

“He’s a Princeton hockey player, he’s a tough guy, he had years in combat, his mom and dad fought in World War II,” McCaffrey said of Milley. “But it’s a shameful act on the part of those speaking in a manner supporting authoritarian government. This is outrageous.”

Former Aide To Meadows Calls Mango Grave Threat To Democracy

12:55 Sep 27 2023
Times Read: 271

Cassidy Hutchinson warned Tuesday that her former boss Donald Trump would not have guardrails if he wins a second term as president, arguing that Trump’s violations of the Constitution after he lost the election in 2020 should be disqualifying from the White House.

“I think that Donald Trump is the most grave threat we will face to our democracy in our lifetime, and potentially in American history,” Hutchinson told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview Tuesday.

Hutchinson’s new book, “Enough,” details the chaos and lawlessness at the end of the Trump administration, where she had a front row seat as a top aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows during the former president’s efforts to overturn the election and the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

Hutchinson, who came forward last year with damning testimony to the House committee that investigated January 6 about what was going on in the White House after the election, told Tapper that she worries the institutions of government will end up in an even worse place if Trump is elected again.

The counts that Donald Trump is currently facing – he is facing counts of obstructing the Constitution – to me that is disqualifying. Donald Trump should be disqualified from being the president of the United States – to me that’s not a question,” Hutchinson said.

“We have to think: What would a second Trump term look like?” she asked. “Would these be the people that are running the government, the people that are currently facing indictments? Who would work for Donald Trump in the second term? That’s the question that we need to be asking or asking ourselves going into this election season.”

Meadows, Hutchinson’s former boss, is among a handful of Trump White House aides and advisers now facing criminal charges. Meadows, along with 18 other co-defendants including Trump, was indicted in the Fulton County district attorney’s sprawling racketeering case over efforts to overturn Trump’s 2020 election loss in Georgia. He has pleaded not guilty and is trying to move his case to federal court.

Mango And The Two Fredos' are Found Liable

01:44 Sep 27 2023
Times Read: 279

A New York judge has found Donald Trump and his adult sons liable for fraud, saying the Trumps provided false financial statements for roughly a decade.

Judge Arthur Engoron’s ruling came days before the civil case involving the New York attorney general’s office and the former president was set to go to trial.

Engoron granted Attorney General Letitia James’ motion for summary judgment, finding Trump, his sons, and others “to be liable as a matter of law for persistent violations” of New York state law. He found the financial statements the Trumps provided to lenders and insurers for about a decade to be false and said they repeatedly engaged in fraud.

The decision is a blow to Trump and a complete rejection of his arguments that he didn’t inflate the values of his golf courses, hotels, homes at Mar-a-Lago and Seven Springs on financial statements that were repeatedly used in business.

The attorney general has sought $250 million in damages, a ban on the Trumps from serving as officers of a business in New York, and to stop the company from engaging in business transaction for five years.

Among other things, Trump is accused of inflating the value of his triplex apartment at Trump Tower by three times its size, resulting in an overvaluation of between $114 million to $207 million, Engoron wrote.

“A discrepancy of this order of magnified, by a real estate developer sizing up his own living space of decades, can only be considered fraud,” Engoron wrote.

“Exacerbating defendants’ obstreperous conduct is their continued reliance on bogus arguments, in papers and oral argument,” Engoron wrote. “In defendants’ world: rent regulated apartments are worth the same as unregulated apartments; restricted land is worth the same as unrestricted land; restrictions can evaporate into thin air; a disclaimer by one party casting responsibility on another party exonerates the other party’s lies …”

The judge added: “That is a fantasy world, not the real world.”

The state supreme court judge likened the Trumps’ legal defense of his fraudulent financial statements to a Chico Marx line in the comedy “Duck Soup”: “Well, who ya gonna believe, me or your own eyes?”

Mango's Mind Is Slipping

13:44 Sep 26 2023
Times Read: 287

Donald Trump on Monday confused former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with either his brother, former President George W. Bush, or father, former President George H.W. Bush.

During a campaign stop in South Carolina, Trump reminisced about defeating Jeb Bush for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.

“When I came here, everyone thought Bush was going to win,” he said. “They thought Bush because Bush supposedly was a military person. Great. You know what he was a mili- ... he got us into the, uh, he got us into the Middle East. How did that work out, right?”

Trump, who once boasted of having the “world’s greatest memory,” forgot that Jeb Bush never served as president, was not a “military person” and was not involved in conflicts in the Middle East.

Trump is correct in that Bush was considered the favorite for the Republican nomination in 2015, with an early lead in the polls and a $100 million war chest. But his campaign flatlined, early and he was out of the race in February 2016.

Trump recently challenged his rivals ― including President Joe Biden ― to a “mental acuity test” of his choosing while bragging that he “aced” such a test of his own.

In reality, he took the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, or MoCA, in 2020. It’s not a mental acuity test but instead is used to check for signs of the cognitive impairments that could be an early sign of dementia.

Meanwhile, his own campaign events are increasingly loaded with gaffes, such as one earlier this month in which he claimed he beat Barack Obama in 2016, warned of a pending “World War II” and insisted that Americans need ID to buy a loaf of bread.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/befuddled-trump-cant-figure-bush-040026373.html

read the entire article along with the twitter comments.... lol... but what's even funnier is that his cult of floowers believe it.... they are so braindead they believe that Jeb got us into the middle east or that better yet you need an I.D. to buy a loaf of bread and some of them will tell you that they had to produce an I.D. to buy a loaf of bread.

Mango Whigs Out Suggests It'sTime To Charge People He Doesn't Like With Treason

09:28 Sep 26 2023
Times Read: 289

Donald Trump went over the edge over the weekend and began calling for his detractors to be prosecuted or even put to death.

“They are almost all dishonest and corrupt, but Comcast, with its one-side and vicious coverage by NBC NEWS, and in particular MSNBC, often and correctly referred to as MSDNC (Democrat National Committee!), should be investigated for its ‘Country Threatening Treason,’” he wrote on Truth Social Sunday night.

“I say up front, openly, and proudly, that when I WIN the Presidency of the United States … the LameStream Media will be thoroughly scrutinized for their knowingly dishonest and corrupt coverage of people, things, and events,” he said. “They are a true threat to Democracy and are, in fact, THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE! The Fake News Media should pay a big price for what they have done to our once great Country!”

Trump has never been a fan of news outlets that give him the slightest bit of negative or unbiased coverage. He even turned on his once-favorite Fox News after the network confirmed Arizona voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

But the fact that he is threatening to censor news outlets through federal regulatory powers is terrifying, not to mention a huge violation of the Constitution.

Trump’s threat to the news media was actually his second attempt to menace detractors this past weekend alone. On Friday, he slammed Mark Milley, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, suggesting that perhaps he also committed treason.

“This guy turned out to be a Woke train wreck who, if the Fake News reporting is correct, was actually dealing with China to give them a heads up on the thinking of the President of the United States,” Trump said on Truth Social. “This is an act so egregious that, in times gone by, the punishment would have been DEATH!”

Trump was referring to two phone calls Milley made to Beijing, one during Trump’s last months in office and the second in the aftermath of the January 6 riot. The calls, which were to assure China that Trump was not planning to attack the country, were done at the direction of other Trump administration officials.

Trump, of course, appointed Milley to his role in 2018—but since then has repeatedly lashed out at the general. His Friday comments came after The Atlantic published a profile of Milley that described how he “protected the Constitution from Donald Trump.”

It should go without saying, but Trump making comments like this is incredibly dangerous. His followers have shown themselves quick to spring to action. Hundreds of January 6 defendants have said they descended on Washington because Trump personally called on them.

Republican lawmakers too quickly follow the former president’s commands. Another Trump supporter, Arizona Representative Paul Gosar, has also called for Milley to face death. In his newsletter Sunday, Gosar baselessly claimed that Milley and then–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had worked to delay the National Guard’s response to the January 6 riot, to make Trump look bad.

“In a better society … General Milley would be hung,” Gosar wrote. “How this traitor remains in office is a question we need answered.”

(If it’s any consolation for Gosar, Milley retires on October 1.)

Gosar has shown himself remarkably willing to take up Trump’s call, even on the most extreme behavior. In December, Gosar posted on X, then called Twitter, backing Trump’s call to terminate the U.S. Constitution and overturn the 2020 election. He deleted the post an hour later, after it sparked backlash.

Former Mango Aide Calls Hutchinson And Others Pimp Ladies

15:36 Sep 24 2023
Times Read: 299

This week, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson revealed in her book “Enough” that Rudy Guiliani groped her during the Jan. 6, 2021 attacks on the Capitol in Washington. That claim was backed up by her fellow former aide and current “The View” cohost Alyssa Farrah Griffin.

The move seems to have angered Trump adviser Peter Navarro who posted to X (formerly Twitter) multiple times, beginning with a tweet that read, “Watched Hutchinson in West Wing suck candy daily outside Meadows office doing NOTHING. Pimping new ‘book’ with White House loser Alyssa Farah.”

Navarro continued, “Hutchinson sold soul to J6 witch hunt. This her next 15 minutes of fame. Rudy Giuliani hero, Cassidy trash.”

On Friday, Navarro added to his tirade against the women. He posted, “Why would White House men – prez, vp, senior aide – EVER hire a woman after watching book pimps Cassiday[sic] Hutchinson, Alyssa Farah, Stephanie Grisham, Kayleigh McEnany, Olivia Troye throw mud at Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani et. al. Pimp ladies be giving real MAGA WOMEN bad name.”

On Friday night, Griffin returned fire via Twitter. She explained that she would typically ignore such commentary, “but let me state for the historical record: Navarro was seen as a liability, distraction, & sideshow in the West Wing.”

“To put it as politely as I can: he was ‘strategically’ left off of calendar invites,” she concluded.

Hutchinson also shares in “Enough” that Donald Trump stopped wearing N95 masks during the COVID-19 pandemic because the straps on the masks smudged the bronzer that he wore. The move had major ramifications around the country, as many people stopped wearing a mask once Trump did.

She wrote, “The press would criticize him for not wearing a mask not knowing that the depth of his vanity had caused him to reject masks – and then millions of his fans followed suit.”

JFk, JFK Jr. And Mango

22:13 Sep 23 2023
Times Read: 305

Now the family tree goes like this,” the man on the tape extolled confidently. “John John and…Trump are cousins. And Trump’s uncle is JFK Sr., and Joe Kennedy, who is also not dead…. And Trump’s father is General George Patton, and his brother is Mussolini…”

Colleen Protzman listened on, despondent. The man talking on the tape was her son, Michael Protzman.

“And the thing is,” she said, “he believes that.”

Her son had become the leading figure in a QAnon off-shoot that believed John F. Kennedy Jr., who died in a plane crash off Martha’s Vineyard in 1999, was alive and secretly working with former President Donald Trump to save the United States from an evil cabal.

It’s the kind of conspiracy theory that one might assume manifests only in the dark corners of the internet.

But that changed on November 2, 2021, when hundreds of people from around the country gathered at the infamous grassy knoll in Dallas’ Dealey Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. The congregation wasn’t there to commemorate the death of the 35th President of the United States. They were there to see what they desperately hoped would be the return of the Kennedys.

“Word on the street is Junior — JFK Jr —will show up and introduce his parents,” one believer told the local WFAA news crew who had rushed to the plaza after hearing reports of a large crowd gathered. Asked what he expected would happen, the man earnestly replied: “He’ll (JFK Jr.) probably be the vice president with Trump.”

The late JFK and his son failed to materialize. Most of the gathered crowd went home and moved on with their lives, some of them disappointed the impossible hadn’t occurred. But others stayed, waiting for months in Dallas for the Kennedys to return.

Somehow, the Kennedys, a family dynasty that once embodied the Democratic Party, had become heroes in a movement that also worshipped Trump. A bizarre blend of American lore, dating back to JFK’s assassination, along with biblical and QAnon-adjacent prophecies, suggested the Kennedys and Trump were direct descendants of Jesus Christ and were the heroic protagonists in an age-old battle of good versus evil.

The tale is objectively wacky, yet it managed to strike a chord. Hundreds of people showed up that day in Dallas hoping for at least one Kennedy to reemerge. Others left their lives, families and jobs behind entirely for months waiting on that false promise. But why?

To dismissively reduce the answer to this question as a collective delusion of “QAnon crazies” is to ignore the profound impact fringe conspiracy theories are having on American families and American democracy.

These false beliefs are a symbol and symptom of a broader ideology that thrives on anger, disillusionment and loneliness and is fueled by politically and financially motivated opportunists who have weaponized the community-building capabilities of social media.

Michael Protzman got swept up in this alternate reality.

Depending on who you ask, Protzman was either a victim whose convictions and worldview were so radically altered by what he was reading on the internet that it cost him his family, his home and his business. Or he was a manipulative opportunist who conned his followers into believing a warped QAnon-style biblical prophecy that tore them away from their families – some of whom believe he spawned a cult.

To better understand how online misinformation is affecting American families, CNN spent the past year tracking Protzman and his followers for a documentary that will air on CNN as part of The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper series.

We spoke to dozens of Americans whose lives and families have been affected by conspiracy theories, including Protzman’s own family.

In June, Protzman was severely injured in an accident on a motocross track in Minnesota and died a few days later. He was 60 years old.

But the tragic tale of Michael Brian Protzman began long before the accident.

Prey
Michael “wasn’t a computer person,” his mother, Colleen Protzman, said. But in the years after the 2008 financial collapse, he began researching online about investing in silver. Many websites that tout the sale of precious metals like silver rely on doomsday conspiracy theories of a global monetary collapse to convince people to hand over their cash.

At the time, Michael was living with his wife and two children near Seattle. He ran a demolition business but was worried about his family’s financial future. “He knew that he wasn’t going to be able to keep doing this work forever because it’s really hard on your body,” his mother told CNN.

It was with those worries, and some other personal family problems, that the conspiracy theory sites began to suck him in.

Over time, his fear became palpable – the US dollar was about to collapse. He wanted his mom to cash in her 401(k) retirement savings and invest it into silver, she said.

“He just was so adamant about the fact that he was afraid that we, his family, his sisters and me and his wife and his daughter was going to be left without if we didn’t all understand that this was going to happen and that we didn’t invest,” she explained.

After a few years, Michael’s worldview had extended to conspiracy theories about the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre.

“I think he became more isolated,” his mother said. “And the more isolated he became, the more he needed his family to agree with him, to believe everything that he believed. And we didn’t.”

Colleen Protzman agreed to speak to CNN in February this year because she wanted people to know who her son was before he had become an accused cult leader — in her eyes, the real Michael.

She spoke of a loving son, a hard-working dad, someone who was committed to looking after his family. She recounted one occasion when Michael was driving on Interstate 5 near their home in Washington state and spotted a family whose car had broken down in the pouring rain. Michael pulled over, helped the family get to a garage and new dry clothes. “That’s the kind of person he was,” his mother said.

But, she said, as the years went on and Michael fell further down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories, he began engaging with QAnon – the sprawling online delusion that claims former President Donald Trump is a hero set to save the US from an evil cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles.

It was quite the transformation – Michael had voted for President Barack Obama twice, according to his mother, and had been a fan of liberal icon Rachel Maddow. He “thought she was fantastic, smart, right on,” she recalled.

Eventually, conspiracy theories became all that Michael could talk about. His mother tried to help him debunk some of the misinformation he was sending her, but to no avail. Over time, he grew frustrated that his family refused to believe the same false claims he was espousing. His family grew frustrated, too, exhausted by his proselytizing.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/23/us/qanon-trump-kennedy-protzman-cult-invs/index.html ok read the whole thing here. What is above IS NOT the ENTIRE article.

WTF are these NUTTERS talking about and believe in? How is this even fucking possible? How do these people function on a daily basis? These idiots support Mango.... their families should go to court and get an order to have them evaluated. GOOD GRIEF!!

Texass Leads in Anti-Semitism Groups

14:03 Sep 21 2023
Times Read: 319

Texas continues to be a hotbed for extremism and antisemitism, driven by the heavy presence of white supremacist and anti-LGBTQ+ groups that are headquartered or active in the state.

That’s according to a report released Thursday by the Anti-Defamation League that examined nearly three years of “alarming levels of extremist ideology and activity” in Texas, and suggested a handful of policies to combat the growing problem.

Since 2021, the report found, antisemitic incidents in the state have jumped by 89%, and there have been six “terrorist plots” in addition to 28 “extremist events” such as training and rallies. Texas also led the nation in white supremacist propaganda last year; had the most residents charged in relation to the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection; and, in March, saw a neo-Nazi and extreme misogynist gunman kill 8 people at an Allen shopping mall.

The report specifically noted the presence of white supremacist groups such as Patriot Front, which is based in the Dallas area and has repeatedly marched in major cities across the country, including this summer in Austin. Patriot Front was founded by Texas resident Thomas Rousseau after 2017’s deadly neo-Nazi march in Charlottesville, Virginia, and was responsible for roughly 80% of all white supremacist propaganda incidents nationwide last year. The group also was present at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Waco this year, and 31 of its members were arrested near a 2022 Idaho Pride event on conspiracy to riot charges.

The ADL report also notes the uptick in neo-Nazi activity in the state, specifically at anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations. Experts have for years warned that extremist groups are using “groomer” panic as a way to recruit, and neo-Nazis have been a fixture at anti-drag rallies that have been organized by groups with close ties to Texas lawmakers.

Texas is also home to churches affiliated with the New Independent Fundamental Baptist movement that preaches extreme — and often violent — messages about the LGBTQ+ community, the report found. This includes Stedfast Baptist Church, a Dallas-area church whose pastor has said LGBTQ+ people "should be lined up against a wall and shot in the back of the head.”

Also driving the surge in extremism, the report found, is the heavy presence of anti-immigrant and “vigilante” groups that have been active on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The report follows years of warnings that extremist groups have been emboldened by the Republican Party and its amplification of things such as “great replacement theory,” a white supremacist conspiracy theory that claims there is an intentional, Jewish-driven effort to destroy white people through immigration, interracial marriage and the LGBTQ+ community.

That conspiracy theory — and corresponding violence — has been bolstered by frequent depictions of immigrants as “invaders” by major figures such as Tucker Carlson and Gov. Greg Abbott. Before he set fire to an Austin synagogue on Halloween 2020, Franklin Barret Sechriest wrote in his diary that “no invader is innocent.” And, after a gunman, hoping to fight the “Hispanic invasion of Texas,” killed 22 people at an El Paso WalMart in 2019, Abbott vowed to stop using such language to describe immigrants. He has since resumed his use of "invasion" rhetoric.

The ADL also noted that Texas has hosted numerous conferences on QAnon. Pillars of the conspiracy theory — including the belief in a secret globalist cabal that sacrifices and rapes children — borrow heavily from centuries-old antisemitic tropes that have historically led to bloodshed, including by the Nazis.

Despite the myriad warnings about the conspiracy theory’s dangers, prominent Republicans — including Sen. Ted Cruz, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and former Texas GOP chairman Allen West — have appeared with major QAnon figures. In 2020, the Texas GOP also adopted a well-known QAnon slogan — “we are the storm” — that the party later tried to claim had nothing to do with the conspiracy theory.

The ADL also suggested a handful of “nonpartisan” policies that they said would help stem the growing extremism and violence. Among the recommendations: creating a commission to study domestic violent extremism, create annual assessments; and provide clear statistics on hate crimes; mandate that law enforcement agencies report hate crimes to the FBI; and “hold social media platforms accountable” by creating a task force to study and address online extremism.

“Elected officials in Texas have an opportunity to confront this issue to significantly curtail the negative impact that extremism has on the people they represent,” Oren Segal, vice president of the ADL’s Center on Extremism, said in a statement. “It is imperative they prioritize the views and experiences of our most vulnerable communities so that targets of extremism have the resources they need to collaborate with law enforcement to solve this issue.”

Attempted Book Bans Up 33%

13:25 Sep 21 2023
Times Read: 320

There were 3,362 book ban attempts in K-12 schools across the country last school year — 33 percent more than the year before, according to a new report from free expression group PEN America.

And those book ban attempts resulted in the removal of 1,557 individual titles.

Since 2020, there has been a surge in book challenges as classrooms have become a new ideological battleground.

Book ban attempts have reached record highs each year since the start of the pandemic, according to data from the American Library Association.

“The toll of the book banning movement is getting worse. More kids are losing access to books, more libraries are taking authors off the shelves, and opponents of free expression are pushing harder than ever to exert their power over students as a whole,” said Suzanne Nossel, chief executive officer of PEN America.

“Those who are bent on the suppression of stories and ideas are turning our schools into battlegrounds, compounding post-pandemic learning loss, driving teachers out of the classroom and denying the joy of reading to our kids. By depriving a rising generation of the freedom to read, these bans are eating away at the foundations of our democracy.”

PEN America notes in the report that its definition of a book ban includes “any action taken against a book based on its content.”

This could take the form of a parent or community challenge to a book, school administrative decisions to remove a book or threat or direct action from an elected official to control access to a previously available book.

More than 40 percent of all such actions last school year took place in 33 school districts in Florida, making it the state with the most book ban attempts during that time.

There were 1,406 book ban cases in the Sunshine State last year.

Texas, Missouri, Utah and Pennsylvania also had a high number of book ban attempts last academic year, with 625, 333, 281 and 168 book ban cases taking place in each state, respectively.

While most of the states where many book ban were attempted are conservative-leaning, book bans are taking place in Democratic-leaning states as well.

PEN America recorded at least one in 14 states that voted Democratic during the 2020 presidential election, including New York, California and Massachusetts.

The report shows that the most recent wave of book bans continues to target titles about racism or books with queer characters or characters of color.

Targeted books were most frequently stories written for young adults featuring a queer, nonbinary or female protagonist, the report notes.

Out of the over 3,000 books targeted last school year, there were 11 titles that were banned in 22 districts or more.

The most banned book was “Tricks” by Ellen Hopkins, who also is the most frequently banned author in K-12 schools, according to the report.

The book, which tells the story of five troubled teenagers who fall into prostitution, was banned in schools across 33 districts.

The second most banned book was Toni Morrison’s first novel “The Bluest Eye” which faced challenges in 29 school districts last academic year, according to the report.

But a shift appears to be happening regarding what books are being challenged. During the last school year, banned books also included titles dealing with physical abuse, health and well-being, as well as grief and death.

Former W.H. Lawyer Compares Mango To Mob Boss

Former White House lawyer Ty Cobb compared former President Trump to a “mob boss” in a CNN interview Tuesday.

The comparison follows reporting alleging Trump, Cobb’s former boss, wrote to-do lists on the backs of classified documents. This revelation reportedly came from former Trump aide Molly Michael, who told investigators about the to-do lists.

“I hear Trump, you know, really for the first time in terms of the way this evidence is rolled out, you know, speaking in the terms of a mob boss,” Cobb said. “You know, giving a direct order to somebody that he probably should have no reason to believe, you know, would lie for him, but expecting her to do so.”

Michael said Trump wrote tasks and requests for her on the back of notecards, according to ABC News. She would later come to realize these were White House documents featuring “visible classification markings.”

Trump allegedly told his former aide, “You don’t know anything about the boxes,” after hearing last year that the FBI wanted to interview Michael, according to ABC News.

A spokesperson for Trump denied the allegations to ABC.

“You know, Molly, a very highly regarded person, very loyal to the president,” Cobb said. “But, there’s a difference between loyalty and, you know, breaking the law, and that’s not a line she was going to cross.”

Trump was indicted for alleged crimes related to his handling of documents by special counsel Jack Smith in June, and now faces more charges under a superseding indictment filed in July.

Trump’s legal woes have only grown since then, as the former president is now facing charges in Georgia related to alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“I think this underscores though, what we’ve talked about, which is what Jack Smith says in the indictment, is not the only evidence that he has,” Cobb said. “He’s got layers and layers of credible support for each of the allegations in the indictment.”

Dems Flip Seat In Mango District And Keep PA House

16:57 Sep 20 2023
Times Read: 333

Democratic candidates easily won special state legislative elections in both Pennsylvania and New Hampshire on Tuesday night, continuing the party’s streak of strong performances in special contests, providing a good omen for 2024 and giving Democrats a better chance of holding two swing state legislative chambers.

In Pennsylvania, former congressional aide Lindsay Powell won in a safe blue seat in Pittsburgh, meaning the party will maintain its 102-101 edge in the state’s House of Representatives. Republicans control the state senate in the Keystone State, while the governor is Democrat Josh Shapiro.

In New Hampshire, whose 500-member state house is the largest in the nation, Democrat Hal Rafter won a closely divided seat northeast of Manchester, narrowing the Republican edge in the state house to just 198 Republicans to 197 Democrats. Democrats are heavily favored in a special election scheduled for November, meaning the party could soon split control of the chamber and break the GOP trifecta controlling state government.

Neither victory, by itself, can indicate much about the political environment. Only about 10,000 voters cast ballots in Pennsylvania, and just 2,800 did in New Hampshire. But both continue a trend of Democrats overperforming both President Joe Biden’s 2020 results and the results of the 2022 midterms in special elections so far this year. The trend began after the Dobbs decision striking down abortion rights, and has only accelerated since the midterms.

For instance, former President Donald Trump narrowly won the New Hampshire district in 2020. But Rafter beat the GOP nominee, Jim Guzofski, by a 56% to 44% margin.

And in Pennsylvania, Biden won the seat by 22 percentage points — already a blowout. But Powell defeated Republican Erin Autenreith by 30 percentage points.

According to the latest calculations from FiveThirtyEight, Democrats have improved upon the base partisanship of districts by a whopping 11 percentage points over the course of 30 state legislative special elections this year.

While Biden’s approval rating remains low, and most polls have the race between him and Trump in close to a dead heat, special election results stand out as a bright spot for Democrats heading into 2024.

How bright of a spot remains to be determined: The correlation between special election results and general election results is not perfect, and the continued movement of college-educated voters — who are more likely to turn out in irregularly scheduled elections — into the Democratic camp is clearly helping Democrats run up their advantages.

Abortion Front And Center In Virginia Now And 2024

16:45 Sep 20 2023
Times Read: 335

Democrat Russet Perry has knocked on thousands of doors in a swing district outside the nation's capital as she campaigns for a seat that could decide control of the Virginia state Senate in November. The issue that comes up the most — particularly among women and even from some Republicans and independents, she says — is protecting abortion rights.

The topic has motivated voters and upended traditional political wisdom in election after election since a conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court eliminated the federal right to the procedure last year. But it may be especially front of mind in Virginia, the only state in the South that has not imposed new abortion restrictions since Roe v. Wade fell.

Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin — whose push to ban the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy was blocked by the Democratic-controlled Senate — has pledged to try again if the GOP wins full control in the state.

“I see this fight and this race as being pivotal to what happens to many, many, many people, not just here, but across the entire South,” said Perry, a former prosecutor and ex-CIA officer who noted that women from throughout the region have sought abortions in Virginia since Roe was overturned.

For those on either side of the debate, Virginia — where all state House and Senate seats are up for election and early voting begins Friday — is among the biggest fights this year over abortion rights. The Commonwealth's odd-year elections are often an indicator of the national mood heading into major election years and offer both parties a chance to test campaign strategies, messaging and policy ahead of 2024 contests for president, Congress and other offices.

Democrats are banking on abortion rights to be a winning issue, just as it was in the 2022 midterms and in earlier contests this year in Virginia and elsewhere. They hope it will lift candidates in a place that Democrat Joe Biden won in 2020 but where voters a year later backed Youngkin, who is still mentioned as a possible late 2024 entry for president.

The Democratic National Committee recently invested $1.2 million into Virginia races, and Vice President Kamala Harris was in the state Thursday to kick off a college tour aimed at mobilizing young voters to fight for reproductive rights, action on climate change and other issues.

Republicans are centering their focus elsewhere in an echo of Youngkin’s winning 2021 campaign — when the businessman defeated a former governor at a time when Roe was still law. They’re talking about kitchen table issues, such as the cost of living, public safety and protecting the role of parents in directing their children’s education.

Zack Roday, the coordinated campaign director at Youngkin’s Spirit of Virginia PAC, said Democrats are focused on abortion because they “have nothing to run on." He accused Democrats of misrepresenting Youngkin’s proposed 15-week limit on abortions as a total ban. Most abortions take place before 15 weeks, and Youngkin’s proposal includes exceptions for rape, incest and to save the life of the mother.

“They have no vision, no agenda, nothing to offer the Commonwealth," Roday said. "It’s all fear and lies.”

Leading abortion opponents also see Virginia as a place where Republicans can reframe the discussion and avoid the “ostrich strategy” of trying to evade the issue. They have pushed GOP candidates to explain their personal positions, to speak compassionately about both unborn children and the women who may seek abortions, and to push policies such as improving the foster care and adoption systems.

The country's most prominent anti-abortion group hired Kellyanne Conway, a GOP pollster who was President Donald Trump's senior counselor, to advise candidates in Virginia and elsewhere on their handling of the issue.

"It’s not enough to just say, well, I’m pro-life," said Kaitlin Makuski, political director for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. She pushed back on Democratic criticism of Youngkin and other Republicans as “extreme” on abortion, saying the 15-week ban was “common-sense legislation.”

Abortion rights advocates say they are seeing voter support grow as more states impose restrictions and the reality of life without Roe becomes clearer.

“There’s basically a never-ending drip of horror stories from the states on abortion bans,” said Mini Timmaraju, president of Reproductive Freedom for All, citing stories about women denied care and young rape victims forced to carry pregnancies to term. She also dismissed anti-abortion activists' attempts to shift their messaging.

“That’s their new thing. They want to be ‘compassionate.’ It's garbage,” she said. "It’s wild to me that they think anyone will buy that they are compassionate on this issue at all, or that they really, truly believe a 15-week ban is perceived as a compassionate compromise.”

Polling shows people's opinions on abortion in the U.S. are complex, though most want the procedure to be legal, at least in the initial stages of pregnancy. An Associated Press/NORC poll conducted in June found about two-thirds of Americans said abortion should generally be legal.

About half of Americans said abortions should be permitted at the 15-week mark, the poll found. By 24 weeks of pregnancy, about two-thirds of Americans said it should be barred.

On the campaign trail in 2021, Youngkin generally sought to avoid discussing abortion in detail and was secretly recorded acknowledging that “as a campaign topic” the issue wouldn’t help him win the needed support of independent voters.

Virginia law allows abortion during the first and second trimesters. The procedure may be performed during the third trimester only if multiple physicians certify that continuing the pregnancy is likely to “substantially and irremediably” impair the mental or physical health of the woman or result in her death.

Virginia Democrats point to two in-state elections since the fall of Roe as showing the potency of the issue. One is the victory of Democratic Sen. Aaron Rouse in a January special election. Rouse flipped a previously red seat after campaigning heavily on protecting abortion access. The other is the resounding defeat of incumbent Sen. Joe Morrissey, a scandal-plagued, self-described “pro-life” Democrat, by his June primary challenger, Lashrecse Aird, who centered her campaign around abortion rights.

Nationally, Democrats are buoyed by the outcome in a half dozen states, including conservative Kentucky and Kansas, where voters opted to protect reproductive rights on abortion-related ballot measures. In August, Ohio voters rejected a measure pushed by Republicans that was seen as a proxy for an abortion rights question on the ballot this fall.

Perry used her first TV ad to both introduce herself and hit Republican opponent Juan Pablo Segura on the issue of abortion.

Segura, the founder of a maternal health care startup, has said he supports Youngkin's proposal to ban abortions after 15 weeks. Most abortions in Virginia take place before then, according to federal data.

Segura’s campaign did not make him available for an interview.

In a statement, Segura criticized Perry, saying she has a “weak record” as a prosecutor battling crime and in addressing the “skyrocketing cost of living” — issues he said he's hearing about from voters “constantly.”

“Voters are making it very clear that this election is about much more than one issue," he said.

Perry defended her record and said she believes Virginia — and her Senate matchup against Segura — will be bellwethers for 2024.

“I see this race as sending a signal across the country as to what the impact of overturning Roe is,” she said. “I think that that will play a role next year as well.”

Former President Donald Trump marked the start of the Jewish High Holy Days with a fiery missive on Sunday reminding his followers that “liberal Jews” voted to “destroy America and Israel” through their support of Joe Biden.

Trump took to his Truth Social platform to wish Jewish Americans a happy new year on Rosh Hashanah.

“Just a quick reminder for liberal Jews who voted to destroy America & Israel because you believed in false narratives!,” the former president wrote on the social network. “Let’s hope you learned from your mistake & make better choices moving forward!”

Mango Says Biden Could Lead U.S. Into World War II

18:00 Sep 17 2023
Times Read: 373

Donald Trump is being mocked on social media after he said Biden would lead the US into "World War II."

The former president and 2024 candidate also seemed to suggest Barack Obama is running against him.

Different polls show voters are concerned about the age of both 2024 candidates, Trump and Biden.

Former US president and 2024 candidate Donald Trump was mocked on social media after he said President Joe Biden is "cognitively impaired" and would lead the country into "World War II" if he were re-elected during a Washington, DC summit on Friday.

"We have a man who is totally corrupt and the worst president in the history of our country, who is cognitively impaired, in no condition to lead, and is now in charge of dealing with Russia and possible nuclear war," Trump said during the speech, part of the ongoing conservative Pray, Vote, Stand summit. He then said, "We would be in World War II." World War II took place between 1939 and 1945.

In the same speech, Trump appeared to mix up Biden and former President Barack Obama, saying he was ahead of Obama in the 2024 election polls.

"As you know, crooked Joe Biden and the radical left thugs have weaponized law enforcement to arrest their leading political opponent, and leading by a lot, including Obama — I'll tell you what," Trump said.

Trump also seemed to suggest that Obama had been his runner-up in the 2016 election, saying, "With Obama, we won an election that everyone said couldn't be won." He then corrected himself and specified his opponent was actually Hillary Clinton.

Trump's mix-ups raise doubts about the former president and 2024 candidate's age and mental fitness.

Americans have already shown concern about 80-year-old President Biden's mental and physical health, despite his physician declaring him a "healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male" who is "fit for duty" in February. Biden is the country's oldest president and first octagenarian to hold the post. Trump is not much younger, having turned 77 in June.

"I'm thinkin' Trump might be the one who's cognitively impaired," one user posted on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter.

—Danny 🌊 🇺🇸🇺🇦 (@ScooterTrash10) September 16, 2023

Other users, Democrat politicians, and journalists also commented on Trump's mental fitness.

"He is too old and incoherent, also appears to be going blind," wrote Jared Moskowitz, a Democratic congressman from Florida, on X.

"Last night, Donald Trump said he's leading "Obama" in the polls — and claimed if elected he will stop "World War Two." But sure, tell me again how Joe Biden is the candidate who's too old and slow," lawyer and MSNBC commentator Tristan Snell posted on X.

Someone please explain to me how this woman who pretends to be a good "Christian" gets away with behavior like this. As we already discussed here, GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert was caught on tape behaving terribly at a performance of Beetlejuice at the Buell Theatre.

The bad behavior didn't just involve vaping or causing a disruption, but she was also caught on tape having a grope-fest with her boyfriend in the theater.

Since then she has attempted some lame apology after denying that she was vaping:

After she was ejected from a theater in Denver during the performance of the "Beetlejuice" musical, the office of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) initially denied that she had been vaping during the performance, claiming that she was simply surrounded by smoke from fog machines.

However, according to The Daily Beast, now that incontrovertible video evidence has emerged of her vaping, the far-right congresswoman has admitted to it — and apologized.

“Whether it was the excitement of seeing a much-anticipated production or the natural anxiety of being in a new environment, I genuinely did not recall vaping that evening when I discussed the night's events with my campaign team while confirming my enthusiasm for the musical,” Boebert said in a statement. “It’s clear now that was not accurate.”

Nowhere in the Raw Story post did they discuss the fact that she was also caught on tape looking like she was ready to have sex with her new boyfriend in the middle of the theater with no concern over who might be watching the two of them grope each other in public.

Here's the video from the social media site formerly known as Twitter:

Bobo Was On Video

Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert apologized Friday after getting kicked out of a musical play in Colorado last weekend for disruptive behavior and then falsely denying she had been vaping.

The apology came a day after surveillance video emerged that showed Boebert vaping at her seat in a Denver theater. Her campaign earlier denied the theater’s contention that she had been vaping.

The normally combative Boebert said in a Friday statement that her actions were not meant to be malicious or cause harm “but the reality is they did.”

She was kicked out of the “Beetlejuice” musical last Sunday following complaints from people in the audience that she and another guest were vaping, singing, using phones and causing a disturbance.

When the lights were still on and as people were taking their seats around Boebert, she could be seen in the surveillance video putting her hand to her mouth then blowing out a cloud of vapor. After the lights went off, the footage showed Boebert dancing in her seat and flashes from her phone as she held it up and appeared to take photos of herself during the performance.

Two days after the incident, Boebert posted in social media: “It’s true, I did thoroughly enjoy the AMAZING Beetlejuice at the Buell Theatre and I plead guilty to laughing and singing too loud!”

Boebert noted in her statement that she has been going through a divorce and said her behavior was unacceptable.

“I genuinely did not recall vaping that evening when I discussed the night’s events with my campaign manager,” she said. “We do understand the nature of how this looks.”

Normally pugnacious Fox News host Jeanine Pirro went momentarily silent Tuesday on The Five during a segment on COVID-19 vaccines.

Co-host Jessica Tarlov was discussing how social media companies must “figure out a system to stop people from spreading” disinformation and misinformation about vaccines, though she was also was skeptical of Meta temporarily blocking searches for vaccine information.

Social media sites, she explained, are where many young people obtain information. “You need to find some safe middle ground where people know the vaccine is safe for you but you don’t—” Tarlov said before Pirro seemed to make a sound of disgust.

“What? You’re fine. You’re vaccinated,” Tarlov told her, giving her the chance to explain herself. But Pirro simply stared ahead, blank-faced, and waited until later in the segment to state her grievance, which was that the vaccine doesn’t prevent infection.

Tarlov then quickly jumped in, “But it keeps you alive.”

Meadows Strikes Out On Moving His Case To Fed Court

11:43 Sep 10 2023
Times Read: 418

Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had a very bad day on Friday after arguing that the charges against him in Fulton County, Georgia, should be moved. A federal judge rejected Meadows' bid to move his Georgia criminal case to federal court, making this a bad sign for former President Donald Trump.

The ruling against Meadows has significant implications for the former president and his 18 co-defendants in the Fulton County district attorney's sprawling racketeering case. Meadows was the first of five defendants who already filed motions to move the case to federal court – and Trump is expected to do so, too.

Meadows unsuccessfully argued that his case, now playing out in Georgia state court, should be moved because the allegations in the indictment were connected to his official duties as White House chief of staff. His lawyers wanted the case in federal court so they could try to get it dismissed altogether, invoking federal immunity extended to certain individuals who are prosecuted or sued for conduct tied to their US government roles.

The judge's decision could now set the tone for the other defendants also trying to move their cases. It's an ominous sign for the other defendants who are hoping to invoke the same federal immunity protections.

US District Court Judge Steve Jones wrote in the decision that Meadows had not met even the "'quite low' threshold for removal" to federal court because his activities for the Trump campaign were outside the scope of his federal role as White House chief of staff.

"The Court finds that the color of the Office of the White House Chief of Staff did not include working with or working for the Trump campaign, except for simply coordinating the President's schedule, traveling with the President to his campaign events, and redirecting communications to the campaign," Jones wrote. "Thus, consistent with his testimony and the federal statutes and regulations, engaging in political activities is exceeds the outer limits of the Office of the White House Chief of Staff."

I have an idea. We're nothing here if not helpful. Meadows and Trump can be cellmates. Fun times, eh? I pegged Meadows as one of the first that would flip. What's up with that? Time is running out.

Mango Liable AGAIN To E. Jean Carroll

09:10 Sep 07 2023
Times Read: 432

MSNBC’s Katie Phang says there’s one important takeaway from Wednesday’s second defamation ruling against Donald Trump in federal court.

Phang, in a dispatch from outside a Lower Manhattan courtroom, told “The ReidOut” that if the notion the twice-impeached and four-times indicted former president is a liar wasn’t stamped into concrete before Judge Lewis Kaplan’s ruling, it is now.

“It just goes to show that Donald Trump is a proven liar,” a fired-up Phang said. “And when you have this many criminal cases pending, and your credibility as a criminal defendant may come into play, either because other defendants say that you have done something or you yourself are crazy enough to take the stand, which Donald Trump says he’s willing to do, if you already have findings that he’s a liar — it may not be admissible in your criminal trial, but trust me, in the court of public opinion, with the potential jury pool — they know he’s a liar.”

On Wednesday, Kaplan ruled that Trump was liable in E. Jean Carroll’s second defamation lawsuit against him, ordering the trial to the damages phase over Trump’s 2019 comments in which he said her sexual-assault allegations against him were “totally false” because he had never met her and she wasn’t his “type.” The ruling follows a jury’s findings in May of liability for sexual abuse and defamation, after which Trump was hit with $5 million in damages. That case stemmed from accusations he sexually assaulted her decades ago and October comments he made on social media that her claims of sexual assault were a “complete con job” and “a Hoax and a lie.”

Another important aspect of Wednesday’s ruling, Phang said, countered Trump’s assertion that Carroll “got some money, so whatever she gets in January from me, it’s got to be a set-off from what the award ends up being. And the judge said, ‘No dice.'”

“There is nothing that prohibits E. Jean Carroll from being able to get more money,” Phang added.

Trump has appealed the first Carroll lawsuit, and his attorney, Alina Habba, said in a statement that the result of that appeal could void Wednesday’s ruling.

“We remain very confident that the Carroll II verdict will be overturned on appeal, which will render this decision moot,” Habba said. “We also anticipate that the Second Circuit will stay this trial as it considers the meritorious defenses that have been raised by President Trump.”

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/msnbc-katie-phang-says-e-013558409.html

So Mango has been found liable for a SECOND TIME to E. Jean Carroll. Damages to be considered in January by a jury.

lol.. wait do you know what is really funny is that this so-called billionaire had to go through a bail bondsman to post his $200,000 bond in Fulton County Ga. But wait does this mean Mango lives and breathes everyday hoping his house of shit does not collapse?

Former Dominion Voting Systems Exec Settles ONE Case Against OAN

11:30 Sep 06 2023
Times Read: 449

The far-right media organization One America News Network has settled a defamation lawsuit brought against the company by Eric Coomer, a former executive of Dominion Voting Systems who went into hiding amid the proliferation of false conspiracy theories about him following Donald Trump's loss in the 2020 election.

In an August 30 filing in Denver County District Court in Colorado, Coomer and the defendants — OAN, its chief White House correspondent Chanel Rion, and parent company Herring Networks — said they jointly agreed to dismiss the case.

"Plaintiff Eric Coomer, Ph.D. and Defendants Herring Networks, Inc. dba One America News Network and Chanel Rion have fully and finally settled the disputes among them concerning Plaintiff's claims against Herring Networks, Inc. dba One America News Network and Chanel Rion only," the filing said.

The terms were not disclosed in court filings.

Representatives for Coomer and OAN didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider.

Coomer brought his defamation lawsuit in a state court in Colorado, where he lives, in early 2021. It was filed against OAN, as well as former President Trump's 2020 presidential campaign, attorneys Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani, Newsmax, and a slew of other right-wing organizations and individuals he claimed pushed false claims about him. He has also sued, in a separate lawsuit, conspiracy theorist and pillow salesman Mike Lindell.

One false viral claim, which was perpetuated by OAN, alleged Coomer took part in an "Antifa conference call" to plan how to rig the 2020 presidential election results.

OAN published a number of stories accusing Dominion of rigging the election, some of which have been deleted from its website following lawsuits against the media organization. Rion also made a three-part video called "Dominion-izing the Vote" where she interviewed a conspiracy theorist who falsely claimed Coomer "was responsible for putting his finger on the scales of our election" and "could be tried for treason." Trump posted the video on Twitter, where it ricocheted through right-wing media.

"OANN and Rion took no efforts to verify or corroborate these false allegations before publishing them and disregarded reliable sources establishing the contrary," Coomer's lawyers wrote in his lawsuit. "They had no credible evidence of any 'Antifa conference call;' that Dr. Coomer was part of this purported call; or that Dr. Coomer committed election fraud. Instead, like other Defendants, OANN and Rion knowingly and recklessly published false statements about Dr. Coomer to support a preconceived conspiracy that the election was fraudulent."

Coomer still has ongoing lawsuits against election conspiracy theorists
The conspiracy theories, Coomer said in his lawsuit, led to "an onslaught of harassment and credible death threats issued against him." In December 2020, he went into hiding to protect himself against potential threats.

"All aspects of his life have been altered in response to Defendants' conduct, including things as basic as where
to live, how to go out in public, and when to see family and friends," his lawyers wrote in his suit. "The results of Defendants' ongoing conduct are foreseeable and obscene. This conduct is so outrageous in character and extreme in degree as to go beyond all possible bounds of decency. It should be regarded as atrocious and determined intolerable in a civilized community."

Note, Coomer has additional suits filed. And for all you mugwumps, you dumb as dirt individuals, OAN for all practical purposes admitted they lied on the air to their viewers, which are you dumb as dirt mugwumps.

ormer Proud Boys Chairman Enrique Tarrio was sentenced Tuesday to 22 years in prison for seditious conspiracy and leading a failed plot to prevent the transfer of power from Donald Trump to Joe Biden.

The sentence from District Judge Timothy Kelly is the longest given to anyone in relation to the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack.

Tarrio, dressed in an orange jumpsuit and orange slip-on sneakers, leaned against a lectern at the front of the crowded courtroom and hung his head as the judge handed down his lengthy sentence. Three other members of Proud Boys leadership were also found guilty of seditious conspiracy and sentenced last week.

More on Proud Boi's Sentencing

10:28 Sep 02 2023
Times Read: 473

A federal judge handed down hefty sentences against two members of the Proud Boys for their role in attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021, one who broke open a window to the building and another who took over the leadership role of the group that day.

Their sentences, both among the longest yet of the over 1,000 people charged as part of the riot, are emblematic of how judges are working to separate key figures who furthered the violence that day from those who were swept up in the crowd.

“If we don’t have the peaceful transfer of power, I don’t know what we have,” District Judge Timothy Kelly said during one of the hearings Friday. “Because that is the reflection of when we go to the ballot box, when we exercise the right to vote. That is the manifestation of that. And so, if we don’t have that, we don’t have anything.”

Kelly continued, “that didn’t honor the founders, it was the kind of thing they wrote the constitution to prevent.”

The first man to be sentenced Friday, Dominic Pezzola, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Pezzola smashed through a window to the US Capitol with a police riot shield on January 6, allowing the first wave of rioters to storm the building as members of Congress were being evacuated. Pezzola quickly became a symbol of the violence that day.

Ethan Nordean, a Proud Boy from Washington State who took over leading the group after longtime Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio was arrested on his way to Washington, DC, days before the January 6 riot, was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Nordean’s 18-year prison sentence is tied for the longest handed down in connection with the January 6 insurrection. Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes was also sentenced to 18 years in prison for seditious conspiracy.

Pezzola
Images of Pezzola, nicknamed “Spazzolini,” using the police riot shield to first breach the Capitol building quickly became a symbol of the violence that day.

“The reality is you were the one who did it,” Kelly said during his sentencing hearing Friday. “You were the one who smashed that window in and let people begin to stream into the Capitol building and threaten the lives of our lawmakers. It is not something I would have ever dreamed I’d see in our country.”

“You were really, in some ways, the tip of the spear,” the judge said.

Before leaving the courtroom, Pezzola, with a raised fist, shouted, “Trump won!” just minutes after Kelly – who had already left the courtroom – said he hoped Pezzola had turned a corner.

Pezzola was the only one of the five Proud Boys defendants not convicted of seditious conspiracy. Pezzola joined the Proud Boys shortly before January 6, according to evidence shown at trial, and was praised by the organization’s leadership for his violent actions at a separate rally weeks before the Capitol riot.

The New York native was convicted of multiple other charges including assaulting or resisting a police officer, robbery of a police shield, destruction of government property and obstructing an official proceeding.

In the at times rambunctious trial, which spanned several months, prosecutors argued that Pezzola’s co-defendants, leaders of the Proud Boys, pushed lower-level members like Pezzola to be on the front lines of the violence at the Capitol.

In a written statement read aloud by prosecutors earlier this week, former Capitol police officer Mark Ode, who was assaulted by Pezzola, recounted being attacked by the mob and feeling like his life was leaving his body.

Ode wrote that he was haunted by the memory of being “pinned down by multiple assailants, being pinned down by all of their weight, while simultaneously being choked by the chinstrap of my helmet.”

“[I] felt my life fleeing my body,” Ode wrote, adding that he had “the most vivid visual of my own funeral.”

During Friday’s sentencing hearing, prosecutor Erik Kenerson said that “many Americans will approach the ballot box in 2024 with trepidation” and “will go to bed on January 5, 2025 afraid of what might happen the next day. Mark Ode certainly will.”

Pezzola, dressed in an orange jumpsuit, addressed the court during Friday’s hearing, while his wife, mother, daughter and a friend who served with him in the military sat in the courtroom.

“I need to extend my sincere apology to Officer Ode,” Pezzola said, “and if he were here, I would look him in the eyes and apologize for all the grief I caused him.” Pezzola also apologized to his wife and children and the country, adding that “the events of J6 have crumbled the reputation of the nation I served in the Marine corps.”

His wife, Lisa, told Kelly how her daughters have suffered through depression and been bullied at school since their father was arrested, saying that it “is very hard as a mother – to not be able to protect them from the outside world.”

“In no way am I making excuses for Dominic’s actions that day. As I said on the stand, he was a f**king idiot,” she said through tears.

Pezzola’s youngest daughter, Angelina, also spoke to the judge, saying that she was “everything good that my father has done” and that it’s because of him she’s a successful college student.

“I hope you give him some mercy so he can see me graduate college, so he can see me get my first home, my first job,” she said as her father sobbed at the defense table.

“All I crave is a hug from my father.”

Nordean
Nordean – who goes by the moniker “Rufio Panman” after a member of Peter Pan’s Lost Boys – rose to prominence within the organization in 2017 after a video of him knocking out an anti-fascist protester with one punch went viral online.

On the morning of January 6, Nordean and his co-defendant Joseph Biggs, led a group of approximately 100 Proud Boys towards the Capitol, donning walkie-talkie style radios and leading chants over a bullhorn.

Standing before the judge late Friday afternoon, Nordean apologized for his actions during the riot and said that “for a long time I thought of myself merely as an individual, comparing my actions that day to others… but I had to face the sobering truth: I didn’t come to January 6 as an individual, I came as a leader.”

“The truth is I did help lead a group of men back to the Capitol,” Nordean said. “I had ample opportunity to deescalate… and I did nothing.’

Defense attorney Nicholas Smith noted repeatedly Friday that Nordean “consumed at least six alcoholic beverages” on his way to the Capitol on January 6 and that his pockets were filled with empty containers. His wife and sister also addressed the judge, pleading for Nordean to be allowed to return home to his daughter.

Proud Boi Gets 17 Years- Not Long Enough

A leader of the Proud Boys who led the far-right organization’s infamous march to the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison – among the longest sentences handed down yet for a convicted rioter.

Joe Biggs was convicted by a Washington, DC jury of several charges including seditious conspiracy for attempting to forcibly prevent the peaceful transfer of power from then-President Donald Trump to Joe Biden after the 2020 election.

A second member of the Proud Boys, former Marine Zachary Rehl, the president of his local Philadelphia chapter of the organization, was later sentenced to 15 years.

“Our Constitution and laws give you so many important rights that Americans have fought and died for and that you yourself put on a uniform to defend,” District Judge Timothy Kelly said in handing down the sentence to Biggs. “People around the world would give anything for these rights.”
