A Tennessee man already facing charges in connection with the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol was arrested for allegedly planning to kill FBI agents, including those who had been investigating him, the Justice Department announced Friday.

Edward Kelley, who was previously charged with assaulting an officer during the Capitol riot, and Austin Carter, also from Tennessee, have been charged with conspiracy, retaliating against a federal official, interstate threats and solicitation to commit a crime of violence.

According to an affidavit, Kelley and Carter had a list of names of 37 law enforcement members to assassinate.

The list noted which officers were involved in Kelley’s arrest in May in Knoxville, Tennessee, on the January 6-related charges or present during the search of his home, and it included some of their phone numbers, according to the affidavit.

An “acquaintance” of Kelley and Carter gave the list to police and began cooperating with investigators, according to the affidavit.

CNN has reached out to Kelley’s attorney. Carter’s attorney, Joshua Hedrick, told CNN in a statement, “Our investigation is only just beginning, but we are looking forward to providing a zealous defense of Mr. Carter, who has asserted his innocence.”

In a news release Friday, the Justice Department said Kelley not only discussed attacking law enforcement agents with Carter and their unnamed acquaintance, but also planned to attack the FBI’s Knoxville, Tennessee Field Office.

“If I’m extradited to DC or you don’t hear about my status within 24 or 48 hours..if they are coming to arrest me again, start it,” Kelley told the acquaintance during a recorded call Wednesday, according to the affidavit. “You guys are taking them out at their office. What you and [Carter] need to do is recruit as many as you can…and you’re going to attack their office.”

When the acquaintance asked if Carter was in support of part of Kelley’s plans, Carter told the individual that “this is the time, add up or put up” and “to definitely make sure you got everything racked, locked up and loaded.”

Kelley and Carter will remain detained pending further hearings.

A Donald Trump supporter who brought multiple weapons to Washington, D.C. ahead of Jan. 6, 2021, and shouted at law enforcement officers that they were “going to die” and to “get out of the way” as rioters marauded through the building that day has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.

Ronald Sandlin, 35, was alleged to have played a major role in amplifying violence against law enforcement at the Capitol who were trying to beat back the mob of Trump supporters looking to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 presidential election on Jan. 6. According to prosecutors, the defendant engaged in extensive planning ahead of time, posting on Facebook that he was organizing a caravan to travel to Washington and seeking donations in a GoFundMe campaign.

He and his alleged co-conspirators, Nathaniel DeGrave and Josiah Colt, allegedly discussed “shipping guns” to Sandlin’s residence in Tennessee, where they are believed to have loaded up a rental car with weapons — including pistols, magazines of ammunition, bear mace, gas masks, a stun gun, body armor, knives, and walkie-talkies — before heading toward the nation’s capital on Jan. 5.

Upon joining the crowd at the Capitol, on Jan. 6, Sandlin is heard shouting “we made history” and “God is on our side,” according to the government. While in the Rotunda, the trio approached a group of U.S. Capitol Police officers standing guard in front of the Rotunda doors, surrounded by dozens of people.

“Get out of the way,” Sandlin yelled at the officers as he approached them.

“Your life is not worth it today,” Sandlin also shouted, adding: “You’re going to die, get out of the way.”

Sandlin was also seen smoking marijuana inside the building after having forced his way past a line of police officers has pleaded guilty to two felonies. He is also alleged to have deleted multiple messages that reflected culpability in the Capitol riot.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) on Wednesday endorsed former President Donald Trump’s call to terminate the Constitution over false claims the 2020 election was fraudulent in a tweet that he later deleted.

“I support and agree with the former president,” the far-right lawmaker wrote, sharing a screengrab of Trump’s widely condemned Truth Social post. “Unprecedented fraud requires unprecedented cure.”

The tweet was sent from Gosar’s official congressional account. His office did not immediately respond to a request for clarity on why the tweet was deleted.

Over the weekend, Trump attracted bipartisan backlash after he wrote on his social media platform that “A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.”

Trump attempted to take back the remarks on Monday amid growing criticism from Republican allies, including Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), John Cornyn (Texas) and Mike Turner (Ohio). According to Trump, media outlets reporting what he said were spreading “disinformation & lies.”
Gosar was censured and stripped of his House committee assignments last year after he posted a video depicting violence against Democrats. This year, he made headlines after he appeared at a white nationalist conference hosted by Nick Fuentes, the white supremacist organizer who recently had dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Nonetheless, House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy has said Gosar would get his committee assignments back if Republicans won control of the House in the midterms, which they did by a narrow margin.

Gosar’s tweet was met with swift condemnation from several Democratic colleagues Wednesday.

Reps. Peter Meijer (Mich.) and Don Beyer (Va.) said it was a clear betrayal of the oath of office taken by members of Congress to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Rep. Eric Swalwell (Calif.) noted McCarthy intends to restore Gosar’s committee appointments even though he “wants to terminate the Constitution.”

The Florida lawmaker who sponsored the controversial law critics call “Don't Say Gay” has been indicted on charges of defrauding a federal coronavirus loan program for small businesses, officials said Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors said Rep. Joe Harding, 35, illegally obtained or tried to obtain more than $150,000 from the Small Business Administration in pandemic aid loans. He is being charged with two counts of wire fraud, two counts of money laundering and two counts of making false statements.

Harding, a Republican, became nationally known this year over his sponsorship of a law that forbids instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, as well as material that is not deemed age-appropriate.

"I want the public and my constituents to know that I fully repaid the loan and cooperated with investigators as requested,” Harding said in a written statement.

The Republican speaker of the Florida House of Representatives has temporarily removed Harding from his committee assignments in the Legislature.

A trial is scheduled for Jan. 11.

Former President Donald Trump called for the termination of the Constitution to overturn the 2020 election and reinstate him to power Saturday in a continuation of his election denialism and pushing of fringe conspiracy theories.

“Do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” Trump wrote in a post on the social network Truth Social and accused “Big Tech” of working closely with Democrats. “Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!”

Trump’s post came after the release of internal Twitter emails showing deliberation in 2020 over a New York Post story about material found on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates said Saturday that Trump’s remarks are “anathema to the soul of our nation, and should be universally condemned.”

“You cannot only love America when you win,” Bates said in a statement. “The American Constitution is a sacrosanct document that for over 200 years has guaranteed that freedom and the rule of law prevail in our great country. The Constitution brings the American people together – regardless of party – and elected leaders swear to uphold it. It’s the ultimate monument to all of the Americans who have given their lives to defeat self-serving despots that abused their power and trampled on fundamental rights.”

Employees on Twitter’s legal, policy and communications teams debated – and at times disagreed – over whether to restrict the article under the company’s hacked materials policy. In a September interview, Trump said he was “financially supporting” some January 6 defendants and promised he would issue pardons and a government apology to those being prosecuted if he were reelected.

He has also come under fire for having dinner at his Mar-a-lago resort with known White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes and rapper Kanye West, who has recently made a slew of antisemitic remarks.

Maybe Walker was home in Texas or maybe he was arranging for some new mistress’ abortion, but he somehow missed the news that Democrats clinched continuing control of the Senate when Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto won re-election on November 12.

Whatever Walker was doing while he was MIA from the campaign trail, he obviously wasn’t studying up for the job for which he has not a single qualification.

First, Walker doesn’t seem to know that Democrats already control the Senate. He told Newsmax TV viewers, “This election year is about control of the Senate in the sense that, you know, we’re not gonna let them take the Senate away.”

“Now the committees can be even,” Walker said, suggesting that he knows the Senate is split 50/50, but little more. He apparently doesn’t know that Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris gives Democrats control already. “If the Republicans lose that Senate seat, then the Democrats got total control,” he said. A one-seat majority would certainly be better for the Democrats but hardly gives them total control.

He also has a warped sense of his own importance. “Right now, this election is more important than any election I think we’ve ever had in history,” Walker added. “So that’s the reason I’m getting out there, to keep people out there to the polls.”

I think all decent people would agree that keeping this lying, werewolf-wannabe nincompoop out of the Senate is very important. But most important election in history? I think the founding fathers would probably disagree. But Walker probably can’t name most of them.
