Our Traditional New Year Cake know as Vasilopita.

This cake is to celebrate New Year and Santa clause name day that to us is know as Saint Vasilios.

Every first of January is traditiona to us to cut this cake. In it it has a coin. They say that to who gets the coin in its piece of cake he or she will have luck for all the year. I remember as child my sister and I were jumping up and down the chair waiting to get the piece on our plates and see if we get the coin. Now as I grow older and as my granny is not with us to make New Years cake I continue the tradition.

The tradition and story about it is so much more than what I say. A beautiful story that its roots go long back. I would love to say more to whom ever like to know. But for now I want to wish to everyone That this new year will be a good one. Full of health happiness and love. And no matter how hard some things are never give up. Held your head high and smile thinking positive

You should be able to smell the aroma. Orange with Masticha. Delicious. I cant wait to cut it tomorrow. It took me an hour and half to make and bake it but im happy that it turned out so good. I wish I could be able to share it with everyone here.

Christmas was and will always be my favorite season. Not only because the houses are decorated and the fireplaces are lit. But because it mkes me warm and cozy in me and that no matter how hard some days are we can always make it. Just hold our head high and smile.

This year I continued my grannies tradition and made our traditional greek desserts. I had so much fun in the kitchen. Sugar and flour everywhere. Almonds in one corner and butter at the other. And because Dakotah was hungry when he saw the pictures and comment that I was baking here is what I made. The third picture is the know "Melomakarona" made with walnuts and honey and the forth "Kourabiedes" are made with almonds and sugar. On half I put chocolate on top.

If anyone wants to try them I would gladly give them the recipes.

Hehe Im glad you like it. Its very sweet and tasty too. Anyone who wants the recipes Ill be happy to share. And in a couple of days we will have our traditional sweet cake to celebrate a better new year and Our own Santa Clause.
