What is the purpose of embalming?

01:19 Sep 02 2023
Times Read: 194

Embalming best enables the funeral home to ensure the deceased's appearance is peaceful and true to their appearance in life.

This is done with chemicals, such as formaldehyde, methanol, sodium borate, sodium nitrate, glycerin, coloring agents, and water, to make the deceased suitable for viewing as part of the funeral ceremony or keep them preserved for medical purposes in an anatomical laboratory.

The three goals of embalming are sanitization, presentation, and preservation, with restoration being an important additional factor in some instances.

This video explains what the embalming room/prep room for embalming looks like along with some of the equipment used. It's almost an hour long, but for the curious and those who've wondered what it looks like or what is involved, this is a good video to start with.

This is a tour of what a Crematory looks like, for those interested. It's about 17 minutes long.

I will be adding more videos about different tools and procedures but if there are specifics you are curious about, comment down below with what you would like to learn about and I will gladly explain them to you.
