There's a place I know called Serpentine,
where I would go from time to time,
collecting thoughts in perfect rhyme;
a place so divine, a place so divine.
Away from all the city's groan,
to spend some time alone;
in the evening I would roam,
far from home, far from home.
Listening to nature's melody play,
strolling around in the month of May,
my demons and fears I would slay;
this I would pray, this I would pray.
A backdrop of a poetic dream,
peace flowing like a quiet stream,
upon nature's colourful scene;
all I have seen, all I have seen.
Take a walk through Serpentine,
enjoy the evening sunshine,
share some dandelion wine;
all is fine, all is fine.
Today a young man greeted me
he kissed me on my cheek,
when I was young it might have been
my lips that he would seek.
Those days are gone and I am old
but please do not forget
I've had my time amongst the stars
and I have no regret.
As you are now, so once was I,
so don't think I don't know
the look that makes you catch your breath
the touch that makes you glow.
The hopes and joys of youthful love
have long since passed me by
but I can still remember them
and will until I die.
