Scene Elitists

I was raised by a punk mom. Now I don't doubt that there were some elitist assholes back in her time too, but she says people really weren't like that. In her opinion, the people who care so much about being an expert on the music and whether or not others belong in their scene are the ones who are doing it to feel special and be different. She says, just like I'd say, that punk is about NOT giving a fuck. And while she could sing a line from any song played, she could rarely name the title or the band--and so what?

So what are some of the complaints?

I hate it when people dress the part but don't listen to the music.

I could totally see how that would affect you. You won't be special if others start dressing like you. That's got to be a blow to the ego. So bitch these people out for being vain and all about the image, because you don't care about image at all. Except you do, because otherwise this wouldn't concern you.

No I don't care about image. These people are bad for the scene.

How so? Do they show up at the clubs you go to, powdering their noses and spritzing their hawks, not dancing and not having a good time like you do? Well we can't have that! Only true deathrockers should be allowed in a deathrock club. All two of you, right?

Or is it because their presence causes the bands to change their music? Or because popularity reduces music quality? If bands "sell out" in order to appeal to a larger audience, it doesn't ruin all of the music that you already like by them. And if you stop listening to music because other people start listening to it, then it's obvious that you were only a fan to fuel your ego--to be different. Will a genre completely die out because all of the bands will be selling out? Not likely. You're not the only one who likes the music (sorry to say), so I doubt the bands will become extinct. And what's stopping you from making some music yourself?

That band isn't really [genre].

Don't you hate it when someone thinks Marilyn Manson is goth? Geez! I mean I could totally see how that would ruin the scene. So all the goth clubs start playing bad music that isn't really goth, and then what do you do? Well buddy, the problem isn't that people are mistaking bands for goth when they really aren't. The problem is that these un-goth bands are more popular than the bands you like, and this music would take over your clubs whether people mistake it for goth or not. Because guess what...you're elite! You wanted to be different, and you wanted to keep others away from your music. And that's what happens when you're successful.

But let me just say this: to not associate with people simply because they are mistaken about the genre (mistaken as is they don't follow YOUR standards of what you think it should be) is low. And to be rude to people over it is even lower.

I'm so in love

It stresses me out.

His scent. I pay attention to scents. His is my favorite so far, by far. I could just rip the skin off his neck and sew it to my pillowcase.

What a fucked up match we are. We're totally indecent, and we shouldn't even go out in public. But for some reason he makes me want to get my shit together...somewhat at least. Maybe we're so out of control that we need to be on our own, in our own place with our own life.

I can't tell if we're perfect together or a terrible idea. I don't trust him because I haven't been able to trust anyone with my heart. But god does he make me happy.

I don't let his temper tantrums push me away. He comforts me when I have my episodes, and he's done a very good job of it. We're patient with each other. I don't know who else could handle either of us.

He got my name tattooed down his wrist before we were together for even two months. If it were anyone else I would say that's nuts, but it's up to him whether or not we last. I know he's safe with me. I'm the hopelessly devoted type.

Hopelessly. This one would hurt the worst yet.
