Shaped like a cross, you stood,

A pantomimed invitation to embrace

Before God and all that is good.

Little Scarecrow Woman

Of scarves and loosely draped bones,

You terrify in lipstick and pearls

And a smile weighted down with stones,

Cutting quite the figure.

You broke my mind,

A dancing decoy

Rehearsing your lines

Along a row of lies

We didn’t wish to eat anyway.

I am careful these nights,

Drawing my curtains tight

To keep you at bay

When on the wind you ride

To etch your dust across my pane

Until the crows flap and fly inside.
