The question:
It haunts then
fades and
waits.
To return to me again.
Have I ever been?
Have I ever?
Have I?
I...
[silence]
(I would like to point out that I'm not always the speaker of my own poems. That is all.)
I'll draw you in
I'll draw you into this place.
A shadowy abyss
That will not show it's face
Undefined; lacking a name.
It compulsively lies,
but it's all too real.
It's evil reflects in your eyes,
but it has a heart.
So go in! Make you mark!
So go in! It will have you...
Don't be afraid of the dark.
It pulls you in, pulls you deep,
pulls you down off of your feet.
You let out a erratic scream.
Too bad no one hears.
I'll drag you in.
I'll pull you in.
I'll draw you in.
Draw you into me.
They took it all away
On Christopher Columbus day.
We wanted peace.
They wanted war.
We gave them gold.
They wanted more.
Their appetites so insatiable,
They were never pleased.
They came to kill our people,
and expose us to disease.
This day is reminder,
not any kind of holiday.
They took it all away
on Christopher Columbus day.
(I encourage you to find out and think about the truth of Christopher Columbus day.)
The heart is something
that need not be stepped on.
You walk around it
momentarily noticing,
before wondering:
Does it need your
assistance, perhaps your
persistence, or maybe
your time of day-
perhaps you could stop and listen.
