So, after working up to June twenty-something, I was off for two weeks of the summer session, due to Boss #1's screw up in getting the work requests in on time, which affected all of us hourly contract workers. Anyway - came back to work last week, so basically, I got to work only 8 days before the end of the summer session. *sigh*
But - that's better than nothing. I'll be getting unemployment payments until whenever I go back. I'm still waiting on them to begin the interview process for the permanent position.
Anyway, here are the highlights of my eight days of work:
* One student - who is homeless - almost set the building and the community garden on fire one night, with his bonfire.
* With the great group of teens being introduced to the culinary arts, we also get those old farts and the crazies who have to repeat classes over and over...and over. It's sad when the kids pick up on things quickly, leaving the repeaters in the dust. Of course, many of the losers only show up for the free food.
* Speaking of older students, one - who is actually a student assistant - got all bent out of shape when another older student was walking behind him - too close(?) I guess the student assistant - let's call him Jimmy - was really riled up, because he threatened the other guy - who's cool by the way - with a big kitchen knife. Really? Jimmy was cussin' and having a total shit fit, and the other guy was just looking at him like he was a fool. Their chef instructor had to step in between them to de-escalate the shit. I'm sure that some of the high-school kids were scared shitless. Not a good way to introduce them to the college...I wonder how many will even return?
Note that the cool guy in the argument is around 6 foot 3 or 4...and Jimmy is around 4 foot 10. Talk about one pissed-off Chihuahua (Jimmy is Mexican...lol). This is also the same tiny man who wanted me to ride around with him on his Harley. I've seen him on the bike, and often wondered how his lil' legs were able to reach anything. No thank you, you batshit crazy lil' cuss.
One day, when I had to pick up some medication after work, I was waiting for a free shuttle to the hospital/clinic. An obviously homeless guy - a kid, really - walks up to me and mumbles something about meeting "Molly". He's staring at my hand, which is holding my Kindle. I take a few steps back, and say "Oh." He proceeds to mutter on how he thought that I was Molly. I say - "No kid - I'm not Molly." He then says "Oh well. I had promised to give her a rim job..."
I went to the laundry mat yesterday, and did some shopping for me and the kitties today. I've taken out the garbage, and have dropped the rent check in the pay slot. Unless there is an emergency, I DO NOT PLAN ON LEAVING MY APARTMENT!
One vampire series that I really like is by the writer Carla Susan Smith; the first two books are 'A Vampire's Promise', and 'A Vampire's Soul'. The author was kind enough to advance me a copy of the third book, 'A Vampire's Honor' which is due out at the end of September.
The author is a really nice woman, and I'm honored that she asked me to write an honest review, and be one of her beta readers. I know that when I'm ready with my shit, she'll do the same for me, time permitting.
I guess that I should read it asap and review it for her before its release in the fall.
(I just read another good vampire tale by another writer, and she's getting hers ready for release too).
Busy, busy, busy!
The permanent cashier position in my department just opened, and I applied for it. It has higher pay, very good medical benefits, and a lot of other good shit. My super will back me up, but our boss? Not so sure. Due to all of the past drama (with his cronies who are now no longer with the college) who knows what he'll say/do? I do know that I am a very good employee who's been there doing the job already (as a contract worker), so we'll see. My super said that she will raise holy hell if I'm bypassed. Me too.
Working a bit over the summer. Will have August off.
Still reading a lot and writing my ass off. (Well - maybe not. I still have a big ass).

Good luck hon though I'm sure you won't need it ;)
I really hope you get it. You deserve it for putting up with so much crap!

Hmmm...
Matthew 7:13-14 New International Version (NIV)
The Narrow and Wide Gates:
13 “Enter through the narrow gate.
For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
