Cassandra sat quietly in her, staring out the window. Below her brother and older sister sat on the patio enjoying the sun while she was confined to her room for speaking out toward her cousin, Julian, who was visiting. She had always hated him. It was worth it in order to take a slander at him with her words. Ever since before she could remember Julian had always picked on her. They weren't really related, not by blood. Her father, James de' Clemont, and her uncle Peter Cormando were friends since childhood. They had lived in Europe and went to the same schools together, even attended the same university. So naturally they treated each other like brothers. In a outlandish way she was related to Julian.
She stood from her seat and walked away from the window. Everything was bothering her today. Especially her sun dress which was big and she had been tripping over all morning. Even though it did show off her figure which she was very proud of. Still her family thought of her as a child even if she did turned sixteen in the new year. Her mother especially because she was the youngest and she was being babied. She hated it, how much god only knew. If only they would open there eyes and saw the woman that she had become. She stopped pacing and looked at herself in the mirror. Her dark hair was braided yet surrounded her oval face to make her smooth white complexion even more fair. Her dark green eyes were the feature that attracted most men for they were not common on dark hair girls. Blondes, yes, maybe but not black hair. She knew she was beautiful but she didn't let her beauty control her mind to where she would flirt and be a tease. She saw the way her sister acted toward men with her beauty and she didn’t want to be the way her older sister was. What she thought was funny was when some of the men who came to court her sister would stare at her when she passed by. Some even came to her and announced their love for her. but she pushed them away. None of them interested her, for she was saving her heart for another.
Julian Cormando smiled with satisfaction when Cassandra was sent to her room. He didn't know why it made him smile, it just did. After talking with his Aunt Elinora and Uncle James he joined his cousin's Benjamin and Ophelia on the patio. talking with them and catching up on what had been happening to them in the last few years. Then he began to listen to the birds when they began talking about upcoming carnival. He found it hard to pay attention to them, finally excused himself and walked toward the woods next to the house. He loved coming to visit here, everything was so beautiful, the flowers: the trees; the birds; and everything. There were acres he could walk on even ride when ever he wanted to. James De' Clemon was every rich man just like his father. Of course his father and Uncle had been partners ever since they could be. Both partners had a steady home, with stables' and lakes, many acres to roam around in, even get you lost if you didn’t know where you were going. He couldn't wait until summer arrived, that is when he would go to London again. Without his father around to bother him he would be able to see all the girls he wanted and not have to get his father's approval. Maybe he would be able to get a home of his own, it was time for him to be on his own and not living with his father. He stopped in his tracks when he spotted a familiar black haired girl. He laughed and strolled toward her. Cassandra turned around when she heard laughing and saw Julian.
"Oh for the love of God must you be where ever I go?"
Julian walked closer to her saying. "It is not my fault that you happen to be in the same as I?" She stared at him then turned on her heel and began walking away. "It would do you no good to walk away for I would only follow." She didn't answer, but stopped for a moment only to begin walking again. Julian smiled and followed walking faster to catch up with his cousin. "Is Cassandra not speaking to her beloved cousin?"
She walked faster trying to get away from him but her short legs were no match for his long ones. He caught up to her grabbing a hold of her elbow and making her stop, turning her to face him. "I know why your not talking with me." She tried to pull away. "It is because I got you into trouble when I had not intended to." He smiled down at her. "If I may I would like to apologize for my actions/" he let her elbow go, she didn't move and stared at him unsure.
"Well apologize."
He began laughing unable to hold back his laughs.
"Julian Cormando you are acting like a child. You intend to do everything to me and I despise you for it." She began to walk away from him again but Julian stopped her by grabbing her elbow again.
"No wait Cassandra I deeply truly am sorry, please stay."
She looked at him. "Why should I? We would only argue."
"Well that is why I want you to stay. You argue with me when no on else would."
"Your mad Julian." She looked over at the water. She didn't want to leave she came out here to watch the swans with their babies. "I will stay but only because of the swans. I am not staying because you want me to."
"Good then I wanted to ask you're opinion on something."
Cassandra walked away from him going over to the tall willow tree she sat under it. "What about?" She said as she picked the flowers around her placing them n her dark green silk dress.
"Well I was thinking of London, you know my father wants me to learn the business. I was thinking maybe I should get a home of my own.: he said as he sat next to her.
"A house of your own." She repeated her voice sounding like bells.
"Yes. I wanted to know what kind I should get, should I get on by the shore over in the Veranda or a house over in the vines." She laughed. "What is so funny Miss Cassandra?"
"You of course, my mad cousin, thinking of buying a house."
He laid down in the grass putting his
hands behind his head, he answered thoughtfully. "It is time I be getting on my own. I'm nearly twenty six."
"Why so you not stay with your father. Surly you will inherit his land when he has passed.”
"True but I want to be able to do things without him looking over my shoulder. Besides anything I do seems to not please him as much as I thought it would."
"Oh did you hear Ophelia's good news that Jonathan has purposed and she has accepted his offer blissfully."
"Yes I have heard. What does she see in Jonathan Sterson?"
"I think maybe she is only said yes because he was the first. You did not hear that from me."
He laughed. "I guess you are next Cassandra?"
"I doubt that."
"Why?" He said looking over at her.
She shrugged her shoulders and looked at the swans while tying another flower to the line of purple ones.
"Where do you think I should buy?"
"I do not know nor do I care. If you did buy in Europe you would not be here to bother me."
"And what a pity that would be." Julian finished for her, she didn't answer back just stared down at her flowers as she happily braided them into a necklace. Her small hands looked delicate almost like a child's or that form a painting.
"Julian do you not find it off that when we are alone and not around our family members we do not argue as much/"
"No not really, I have never noticed before."
"I speak of the truth."
Julia tried to see her eyes but the were hooded as she looked down at her flowers. He noticed the curve of her waist under her dress and the slight movement of her chest as she breathed. To his knowledge she looked pretty today with her hair done up in braids and ringlets. He looked away, what was he thinking. This was his cousin she was a child, but he realized she wasn't a child anymore .She grew these past few years.
"Sit up Julian."
He looked at her. "Why?" Distracted from his thoughts as her voice echoed in his mind, like a memorable song.
"So I may put this on you."
He smiled and sat up letting her place the flowers around his neck. He stared into her green eyes which matched his own, hers staring into his not able to move. She slowly let her hands drop away from him. Julian lifted his right hand to her face and touched her cheek softly not realizing his action. Her eyes closed and her mouth parted briefly, something was drawing him to her and he leaned closer placing his lips against her puckering pink ones. His hand went around to the back of her neck feeling the baby hairs tickling his fingers as he pulled her closer, urging her lips to part and his tongue invaded her mouth. Exchange of heated breath made his tongue rub softly against her own.
Feeling hot and dizzy with all the blossoming flowers she kissed Julian back, his hands making her stomach turn as they wrapped around her and pressed her soft body against his hard chest. As his kiss deepened he felt as if he had drunk at the salon, his body started to burn passions arising he had not known. Her tongue was soft and irresistible and he couldn't help but run his hands up her back. Yet was interrupted as he small hands pushed against him and she stopped walking away from him. Her dress swishing as she reached the edge of the lake. He stood also looking around him realizing what he had done. Staring at her back as he tried to collect his thoughts.
"Julian what just happened?"
"I do not know, I do not know." He said as he walked up behind her. "Cassandra something's happening, I mean I want,,,"
She turned and looked at him her eyes confused, a serious concern written all over her face. "It is late." She began walking away, looking back once to see Julian not following her. Shaking her head, she closed her eyes briefly and continued walking swiftly not sure of what had just happened.
Julian watched as she walked away in small hurried steps, her dress swaying back and forth as she walked. He smiled thinking of her waist but stopped smiling just as he had began. He wanted to follow and stop her but he stayed and sat thinking of what had just happened. He ran a hand through his blonde hair and stared at the water. Why did it happen? What caused it to happen. He looked down at the flowers around his neck, grabbing them he flung them as far as he could from him. It was their fault if she hadn't made them they wouldn’t' have kissed. Oh what was he thinking, it was bound to happen sooner or later. He had to admit to himself whether he liked it or not that he had been thinking about her ever since his last visit. The recently taken pictures that his Aunt Elinora had sent to his father has stirred some things up also. What really caused it t come out was when they came a couple of days ago and he saw her for what she really looked like in the past four years. To his surprise she grew up and hit woman hood hard and it shocked him but he had to go and call her names as he usually did as if it were nothing. Up until now he didn't know what this funny feeling was in his stomach. He smiled again she was beautiful though and he had felt so good when they kissed. He'd like to do more, he had to talk with her.
