I walked up the steps to the Dark Wiccan Cathedral in Romania, It is a Gothic structure and looked to be over one-hundred years old, but it was still up and running. I looked around myself as I continued my walk; I was in the wilds of Romania, near the supposed Castle Dracula or Dracul as it is out here. I smiled and shook my head some, I never really believed in vampires. But the people out here, they do. I pushed open the door, one hand going to the Pentacle around my neck and closed my eye’s silently praying to the Horned God, thankful to finally be inside his only church in America. The door slammed behind me and I jumped some, I looked around and sighed walking up to the statue I knelt down carefully and bowed my head, I stood up and looked around, I nearly jumped out of my skin when the High Priest walked up behind me and cleared his throat “ may I help you?” I turned and looked at him, well his chest, I looked up to his face and sighed “I’m sorry, I was just coming in to get away from the cold and to see this place here…” He cut me off and instead said “If you are not a member of this religion, you must leave” I laughed some, my face became severely somber “I’m surprised at you, do you not recognize me?” Recognition dawned on his face as he said “Lady Arrington, Dear forgive me! I’m so sorry, please come on back” He led me into the back of the Cathedral. I was greeted by much face’s I knew, my jacket feel away in minutes and I was lounging in a chair, a good old Irish wine in my hand. “Lady Arrington! You must come at one, we need you!” I laughed some and smiled my wine still in hand as I got up, “coming.” I was ushered into another back room, the light’s dim, “what’s happening?” I walked up to the man on the table and became silent, and still, my breath slowing as I realized that was my father on the table, his breathing labored. I stood astonished, my heart breaking in a million piece’s right then and there. Finally I felt it, his heart stopped, I swallowed, tears coming to my eyes, the wine glass falling from my hand, , it shattering on impact. I stood there, my breathing labored; I fell to my knees and broke down, the man who had came and got me, his name Dmitri, had kneeled down beside me, holding me, while I cried. My father was a great man, he was the elder of this cathedral, and he lived to be at least one hundred. My body was shaking with the effort it took to stop myself from crying my broken heart out, Dmitri finally stood me up and walked me out of the room, we walked well he walked me in his arms, my head buried in his shoulder. We were in a bedroom, that was silent and far away from anything civil, He layed me down on the bed, I curled into a ball and prayed against everything that I could be with my father. Dmitri must have heard it because he started whispering “Gabrella, dear. Please don’t think like that, you’ll regret it later. I promise.” I sighed and turned around to face him, my face tear-streaked; my eye’s red and grief-stricken. “But Dmitri, you know better then anyone the connection I had to my father…imagine the pain, I felt…for that one moment before his heart stopped” my eye’s teared up again and I curled back over, and started to cry into my pillow. Dmitri sighed “gabby, dear, please we all are well aware of your connection, but that doesn’t justify you wanting to be with him…it was obviously his time...and that’s that…we cant change anything.” I sighed, “You don’t think I know that?” I sat up and looked at him, my eyes red-rimmed from crying. He flinched lightly “I’m sorry I know you know, but your thoughts are so depressing, and it’s harder to not point things like that out.” He sighed; I looked at him, knowing he had a connection with my father like I had. “Dmitri, is it possible to speak with him in the after-life?” he sat there and thought about it a minute “Yea, but you’ll have to wait a couple days, the newly-dead aren’t in there rightful spots for at least a day or two” I nodded and sighed, moving to sit next to him “you know why my father introduced us don’t you?” He shook his head “no why?” I sighed lightly, closing my eyes a minute, then I hugged him, whispering in his ear “he wanted us to get married when we came of age, he saw how you could always calm me down, and you would always be around to protect me when I couldn’t do it myself. He thought we’d be perfect for each-other.” I stood up then and walked into the bathroom, stripping and getting into the hot shower, leaving Dmitri to think about what I had said. I started whistling an old Gaelic tune that my father had taught me when I was younger. Dmitri walked into thee bathroom while I was to busy to notice, he leaned against the counter and listened, he was twirling a little black box in his hand. When I walked out of the shower, I was completely oblivious to his presence until I looked in the mirror and saw him leaned against the doorway, the black box in his hand, him staring at me. “Dmitri? Is that what I think it is?” my voice cracked lightly as I slipped on a black short dress, putting on my eyeliner, and grey eye shadow. I turned back to him and he was down on one knee, the black box open to show off a beautiful jade green and black ring. My hand went to my neck. Dmitri looked up into my eyes “Gabby, will you marry me and be mine forever?” I gasped and nodded “yes, I will be” tears filled my eyes again as he slide the ring onto my finger; it glistened as I turned it this way and that in the light. Dmitri stood and wrapped me in his arms, hugging me close. I sniffled lightly and laughed some, kissing him deeply. I felt him smile under my kiss; I stepped back and smiled looking into his eyes “So I take it your father would have been happy to see this day?” I nodded and smiled “yes, he would have been.” We hugged, and then sighed, smiling faintly we walked out of the bathroom, he changed into the black robe, and I put on a black cloak. We walked out of the room and started down a long corridor, we stopped in front of a door. I blew out a breath knowing what was on the other side. I closed my eyes, gripping Dmitri’s hand, the doors opened up and Dmitri and I walked through the doors, everyone on the other side didn’t turn back to look at us. We continued to walk and finally arrived at the coffin, I looked over to him and he nodded, I nodded once and he let go of my hand, walking to a seat on one side of the room, I walked around the coffin, standing behind it now, a microphone in front of me. I looked around the room, my hand were shaking badly as I licked my dry lips, taking one glance at Dmitri before centering my gaze on my fathers coffin. “My father, I’m sure as all of you already know, was the high priest of this church, I mean Coven, he was the best, and he was the only elder.” I sighed lightly and looked around the room once more, I closed my eyes and continued “and I’m sure all or almost all of you were not aware that he had a daughter. That daughter which is standing before you now” there was a collective gasp around the room. “And I’m also sure that because I have been practicing all my life and I know everything that my father did, that it would only be my rightful place to become the high priestess of this coven.” There was a small collective gasp, then a few nods of approval. I sighed lightly, looking at Dmitri; he was looking at me in awe. I smiled lightly “Now I know the way my father ran things around here, and I want to get the priests and priestess looks on things that could be changed or kept the same, so those people meet at 2400 tonight.” Those who it applied to nodded and stood up leaving the room, my body started shaking as everyone filed out of the room, my father’s coffin moved out last; it was taken out into the grave yard, and buried. I stepped out from behind the podium and started down the stairs, but half way down my knee’s buckled, but I never hit the stairs, for Dmitri was right beside me, holding me up, in the next minute I was in his arms, and he was carrying me out of the room, and into a secluded area, he layed me down on a lounge chair, we were out by the ocean. I looked around, my eyes dim and dull from sleepless nights “where are we?” I looked around and found Dmitri sitting by a fire, just sitting there, starting into the fire. I got up, a bit wobbly at first, and then I walked to him, kneeling next to him, looking into his eyes. He looked at me, his eyes holding nothing in them. I flinched lightly, and turned away from him, walking deep into the forest, collecting wood, when I came back and put more wood on the fire, he was still just sitting there staring at it. I sighed once more “I’m going walking.” I then turned on my heal and walked away, starting down the beach. As I was walking, the wind picked up some and the sky grew ever darker, I shivered lightly and kept walking, watching the water’s wave’s break on the shore. As I continued to walk, Dmitri sat there, staring at the fire, his features like stone, his body growing pale and cold, his normally baby blue eyes, going pitch black, his canines extending into fangs. I got to the other side of the cost and turned around finding myself face to face with Dmitri though, he wasn’t himself and I had no idea why though I could see the changes. He grabbed my arm and brought me close to him. I screamed out lightly my back arched against him, my hair falling behind me, exposing my neck. He looked at me, his eyes glowing lightly. I closed my eye’s fighting the pain. Dmitri’s grip on my arm tightened and I grimaced some, he ran his nose and tongue up my neck, I shivered. He laughed some; he opened his mouth sucking on my neck lightly before biting down hard, I screamed out, before his hand came down over my mouth, he had pierced my jugular and I knew then that I was going to die, by this vampire’s hand, or in this case mouth. Dmitri continued to drink, as my skin grew more color-less my eyes growing dimmer, my body began to shake, my knees collapsing on me. Dmitri lower me to the ground, him kneeling next to me still taking. He stopped drinking a few minutes later, his eyes back to the baby blue, his skin back to its normal pale, and his fangs canines again. He looked down at me, my eyes barely open, my breathing beyond labored, my heartbeat almost not there, and my skin beyond pale. He layed himself over me a minute, before starting a long stream of cussing. After he exhausted the words, he grabbed the knife from my boot and sliced his wrist; cutting deep he tilted my head back and poured the blood from his wrist into my mouth. After about five minutes there was a cramping, crippling pain in my stomach, I screamed out once, then his hand came over my mouth, I turned on my side, curling into a ball, my hands wrapping tightly around my ribs and stomach. After a few minutes Dmitri picked my up and walked me back to the cathedral, the first one to greet me greeted us. His name is Rohan “what the hell happened Dmitri?” he sighed and looked at him “what the hell do you think happened Rohan?” he tilted my head to the side to show the bite marks I groaned again, trying to tighten into a ball “did they give blood back?” Dmitri nodded and Rohan cussed. “Well let’s get her chained down so she won’t try and tear herself apart.” And they went into one of the secluded room through the workers passage ways, Dmitri layed me down on the bed while Rohan put the shackles around my wrists and ankles. They stepped out of the room and leaned against either side of the door. I groaned, trying to turn over onto my side, not being able to I tried to bring my arms down around my stomach and abs, not being able to do that either, I sighed and started struggling against the restraints the chains rattled as I continued to struggle. My groans moved into moans, then they went into screams, the screams were loud and long, they went in time with the rattling of the chains. Dmitri outside my door was restrained by Rohan, Dmitri wanted in to stop my pain, but Rohan knew that if Dmitri was going to go in, he would be torn to shreds…or hurt really bad. Three nights later I layed there the chains still around my wrists and ankles “Dmitri! Rohan! Anyone! Can I please get some help!” my voice was weak, I groaned lightly. Dmitri and Rohan both walked into the room, Dmitri came to my side and I flinched away from his hand on my cheek. Rohan caught the flinch and sighed, moving Dmitri away from me, he walked up to me, running his hand down my cheek, I flinched from that to. They both removed the chains from my wrists and ankles, I layed there, my breathing harsh, my eyes half closed. When Rohan slide to open the curtains, Dmitri moved into the shadows, hiding himself from the light. When the light hit the bed and me, I turned my back to it and bit back the screams that threatened to rise from my throat. Rohan turned to me and blocked the light from me, I kept my back to them. I was lifted up and moved into the bathroom, Dmitri helped me undress and shower, the entire time he was helping me I flinched at every touch and word he spoke. We finally walked back out of the bathroom, the blinds still open “god would someone close thoughs damned blinds” Dmitri set me down on the bed and closed the blinds, leaving us in darkness. I looked around seeing Dmitri perfectly I sighed. I looked away from him and sat on the bed criss-cross, looking to my lap, playing with my nails. My breathing was unheard, as I sat there, Dmitri standing three feet away, watching me. I closed my eyes, waiting. Finally Dmitri was sitting next to me, his hand on my cheek turning my head so I was looking him in the eyes. “Gabrella, please, dear, forgive me. I never meant to do this to you.” I looked up into his eye’s which were pitch black again “and yet, here I am, just like you, why? That’s all I want to know why me, what did I do to become like you?” She turned away, her eyes going back to her lap; they teared up, one simple tear falling onto my hands. Dmitri watched it fall and sighed, “You didn’t deserve what happened to you, and I’m sorry, it’s just with what I am, and they way your blood calls to me, I couldn’t curb the craving to have your blood… I’m severely sorry, Please forgive me.” Another tear fell into my hands, a silent cry like I always had. He watched that tear fall and sighed. I stayed there, my body shaking lightly. Dmitri sighed and stood up, “come to me when you want to talk.” He walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him. I flinched from the slam, and sighed, scooting back to the head of the bed I sat there, my knee’s curled to my chest, my forehead resting on my knees. There was a knock on the door, and I stayed silent, my eye’s staring at my legs, I heard the door open, and someone walk across the room, closing the door behind them. I looked up and watched as the person walked through the little light in the room, seeing it was Rohan, I simple put my head back on my knees and waited. Rohan came and sat on the edge of the bed near me, “Gabby dear, are you okay?” I simply nodded and sighed, looking up at him, my eye’s tear-filled. I looked back down to my hands; Rohan lifted my gaze to his and said “you do realize what you are now don’t you?” I nodded and sighed, my body shaking as I hugged him, my head buried on his shoulder, he wrapped his arms around me, holding me close, knowing the danger of doing that he still held me close. I looked up at him, my normally purple eyes going black, the hunger started taking me over, I tightened my hands into fists, I moved away from him and layed back, groaning loudly, I sat back up and looked a him, my eyes completely black now. My body started shaking. “Why do you flinch from Dmitri’s touch, and voice, but not mine?” I shook my head some. “Haven’t you ever wondered about Dmitri? Why he shies away from the light, why he mainly functions better at night?” my questions made Rohan think, and he hesitated, actually hesitated before responding “He, he did this to you? He’s a vampire? But no one ever suspected that…how is that possible?” I laughed, “Look up Vladimir Dracul, and you’ll see our Dmitri, and his history. I sighed and pulled the laptop from under her bed, turning it on. I turned it to him, bringing up a couple different pages, showing him the first, which was a picture of the cathedral they were in “this is where Vladimir died when he was human this was in 1480 when the cathedral was first heading out, but it was Christian then.” I gave him a minute to read through the pages of the cathedral and Vladimir, who happened to start it. He looked up at me; I switched to another page that showed Vladimir himself and vald’s history. “Now this show’s vald’s history, and how he lived, throughout the years of his life, human and non human. If you see here” I scrolled down a bit to a couple paragraphs labeled vald and the high preists this showed a picture of Vladimir and my father in his younger days. “If you look this is Dmitri and my father, they both changed the cathedral from Christian to the witchcraft that it is today.” I switch to another page, it showing the fire that burned the cathedral down in 1780. “So here is the fire that the towns people started when they found out that vlad was indeed a vampire and my father was helping him run the cathedral, my father was badly hurt but retained no serious damage, Vlad of course came out completely unharmed.” I flipped to another page and this one showed my own and my father’s history. “Why bring up you and your father’s history?” I smiled “just look a listen.” I smiled and let him read it all, once he had that done I continued speaking “Now Vladimir and my mother, who died a couple years ago, had an affair, that’s how my older sister came about, she died a couple months ago now. But my father stayed with my mom, not knowing about the affair until I heard Dmitri talking to my mother about it.” I looked at him, he was silent, I could tell he was pretty shaken about the information I was giving out. “Then after I was born Dmitri left for a couple years, I found out just recently that he was out here, building the cathedral again.” I paused to draw in a breath, not that I needed it or anything, I then pulled up the last two pages giving Rohan a minute to look over the pictures and paragraphs below each one. Once he was done with that I started in again “now this” I pointed to the picture on the left “is me, though it’s me in a past life, same age I am today, just different era.” I paused a second “and this is Dmitri, same look he has today and everything…though look at this” I took the ring off her finger and put it next to the ring on her past lives hand “they match…when she died, he took the ring and gave it to every person after her. And now me” I slid the ring back on my finger and looked at the door, a light knocking on it, I sighed and closed the laptop and put it away, the knock came again and said “come in” Dmitri opened the door stepping in, closing it behind him. He walked to the edge of the bed, and said “gabby dear, we need to go eat” I flinched at his voice. “No Dmitri, I’m not leaving anywhere with you” he growled lightly and said “fine, you can starve” and got up walking out of the room, slamming the door once more. I flinched from the slam and sighed, closing my eyes. Rohan sighed “can I borrow your laptop and read over all the information on it?” I nodded and grabbed it handing it to him “yea sure you can, just please try not to break it.” He took it and nodded “no I won’t break it...thank you” he stood up and kissed me lightly on the cheek, then leaving the room. I sat there a minute before stepping out onto the balcony, and watching the moon, becoming completely involved in it, that I didn’t notice Dmitri come up behind me and wrap his arm around my neck, his hand going to cover my mouth, to keep me from screaming. My heart started racing as I grabbed the arm around my neck trying to pull it away. “Calm down Gabrella my dear I made you; I can kill you just the same.” I stiffened and slammed my elbow into his stomach, forcing him to grunt in pain, and let me go. I took the opportunity to jump off the balcony and run, into the forest surrounding the castle, leaving Dmitri to watch me disappear.
